First time I heard VH, I was standing at the bus stop and some guy in an apartment with the windows open had "Running With The Devil" totally cranked. IT WAS SO LOUD!!! Some biker dudes were hanging out on their rides and ran to the middle of the street and yelled "TURN THAT SHIT OFF!!!" They were so mad. The guy in the apartment kept on rocking anyway. I guess Eddie wasn't their guy.
I had to remove material from the Floyd route on my EVH WG Standard to get it to set up correctly so that the Floyd base plate is parallel to the body. There are several videos on YT that show how to do this. Very simply with a Dremel. Also, my EVH WG had several high frets. I had to level and crown and dress. I also replaced the Floyd block with a big brass block. I replaced the pots with Bournes. This guitar is amazing now and every bit as good as my WG Special now.
I was looking at a Wolfgang the other day and noticed the bridge wasn't totally flat, which seem like the strings were a little high on the upper frets I appreciate this info. I'm going to take another look at it and see if I can get it level or it lays on the body. I've always had floating trims, but if I have to dremmel something out, maybe I can get a better deal lol Appreciate the info👍
One of the best guitars on the market for the price point. According to Matt Brown, head of product development for EVH, the Standard has the same pups as the Special, 5150, Shark and Frankie. That’s unheard value
It finally dawned on me why the Floyd isn't decked to the body, I think. I realized that higher end Wolfgangs (starting with the Special) have arch tops. That arch would allow the floyd to lay flat. Considering the Wolfgang Standard uses the same specs except with a flat body, the Floyd needs the gap to match the arch top. Why it sits weird 0:21 when you try to deck it on this guitar. My guess, I've talked too much. Love the channel! EVH forever!
Also yeah you're right about Floyd's beginners dont need them ,I've played for almost 40yrs I didn't get a guitar with a floyd till a few yrs after I started ,when you change string you're right its balance game back and forth but I'm pretty good at it now,love your videos stay safe
I agree that it's a bad idea for your first guitar to have a Floyd Rose. However, many people on the internet make it sound like they are impossible to manage and very time consuming. They are not. If you take the time to understand how they work and how to set them up and adjust them properly, they are straightforward and reliable. I see so many guitarists talk like they are scared of owning a guitar with a FR trem. They are the ones losing out.
I think the reason Steve's tech pulls the ball to the tuning peg is he says he only wants to cut the string 1 time ,I dont that I have an evh standard as well I just change strings like you did ,great video stay safe and god bless
I have the exact same guitar. The only issue I have with it is that the Floyd Rose does sit at that weird angle in order to be flush with the body. When it's set parallel, like it should be to the body, you can pull up a little on it, which shouldn't be the case. It should only bend down. I've seen a few EVH's and they are all like that, which is weird because I also saw the Kramer Snake Sabo and that one the Floyd is flush to the body and even. Break a string on the EVH and you lose your tuning stability which shouldn't be the case. I think the bridge posts should be set a little lower at the factory. My fix was to put a thin strip of velcro(with adhesive) on the back part of the Floyd so that it lifts it, making it even with the body. Other than that and the saddle blocks, it's an excellent guitar for the money. I love the caramelized neck and the pickups are excellent.
You can bottom out a Floyd but they are meant to float so you can move both up and down that's why a lot of players don't use them.and if u rest your hand on the bridge you will affect the tuning

Could lowering the trem posts allow the Floyd to sit lower on the body of the guitar, so it's level AND flush, the way it is on other EVH top mounted Floyds?

Hi Bryce. I recommend 'Dr.Duck's Ax Wax'. It cleans and conditions and it's kind to ALL guitar finishes. Makes them look like new again. Use it very sparingly (a drop will clean your whole guitar) and a 4oz bottle will pretty much last you for life. It's brilliant stuff. 👍
Restring? You don't show removing the bridge end of the string or refitting it! Did you cut the ball off the end? Did you remove the nut lock? Did you put the string on with ball end at the tuner? Bit more detail please! 😊

It has the reinforced rods in the neck too. Junk Floyd junk tuner but that's easily upgraded. In the pickups are the USA version I do believe

Try 10-46 (Light not Super Light) gauge strings. They improve tone and tuning stability. I'm never going back.
