In this video I show you how I use hot glue to create fast and inexpensive embellishments .. These are a cheaper and much quicker alternative to resin or clay if you just want something to decorate your Halloween crafts.
Below are the links for products used: They are Affiliate links ..
Hot Glue Gun by Beeway: amzn.to/2FYKlQq
7mm Glue sticks for the Beeway Glue gun: amzn.to/3mJvgDb
    Silicone finger protectors: amzn.to/36g0dZV
Please note: This is something you can do for a fast and cheap embellishment .. I am not suggesting they are better than resin ... just an alternative for cheaper crafting. They are perfect to use on the front of spell books, to dangle from Apothecary jars, and many more x
I hope you find this helpful :)

You can make them look a lot better by scraping over the filled mold with a metal spatula right after you finish filling the mold. It helps fill the mold up to the edges, ensures the back of the embellishment is perfectly flat, and helps remove any extra glue. You can also pop any bubbles by hitting it with a heat gun right after scraping it with the spatula. Just don't use a plastic spatula because those melt. :) Also, I've seen really beautiful glitter mixes created in the glue by first holding the glue stick over a heat source enough to melt the outside, then roll it in glitter and let cool/harden again. Then use as usual, and the glitter coating mixes in with the glue as the glue gun melts it and you squeeze it into the mold.

Thank you so much ! Great tip ... unfortunately I only have a small craft glue gun with one heat setting so by the time they are filled they are solid .... they get cold so fast .. maybe one day I will incest in a super hot glue gun 😍😍😍😍😍

I use a cheap silicone mat and cut it into small pieces. Once the glue is in the mould I press a piece of mat on top of it which pushes it in and makes a flat backside. However be careful, one piece is often not enough to stop the heat passing thru. Therefore these finger protectors are a great idea. With bigger pieces I often roll a pin or another gluestick over the mat as well to flatten the back even more.

I think you're my soul sister! We have so much in common when it comes to crafting! I got into resin in 2013, and I saw tutorials then about using hot glue with silicone molds. I tried it many years ago but hadn't since until a few days ago. But I had actually chopped up some glue sticks and put them in the molds in the oven. I think the temp was too high because they ended up really bubbly. It was an experiment. I learned for next time. I couldn't find anything about what temp to put them on for hot glue. I have also melted perler beads in them which is what I think I will do next time. I was trying to make some baroque scrolls to add to ornaments. Planning to paint them like some I saw on Pinterest. I just saw your first video in the last hour and I am now subscribed! 💝 Keep up the good work!

I’ve done this with colored and glitter glue sticks making flowers in small silicone molds, but I never tried using mica in the mold. I will now! Thanks for the inspiration, Claire! I also used a silicone scraper or spatula to run across the top of the mold after it’s filled to cut down the trimming all the extra glue . You could probably use an old credit card and accomplish the same thing. Anything that won’t melt from the temperature of the glue to level the surface.

Claire, use a hair dryer or better yet buy a craft heat embosser and heat up your glue while in the mold a little if it starts getting cool. A regular construction heat gun is a bit too hot unless you’re very careful.

Very interested in the use of my hot glue gun for embellishments as I hadn’t thought of it. I normally use air dry clay, which is fine for decorating bottles which need to be curved, but for my jewellery boxes, using the glue gun to make a load of flat embellishments that are ready to go will be a huge time-saver. After you fill your mold, put some parchment paper on top and hold an iron over it or hit with a heat gun or hair dryer. Use anything flat (I like a silicone spatula) to press the re melted glue till it gets in all those hard to reach areas. You can reheat as many times as needed and the parchment paper will keep the glue in the mold, not on the scraper, and when it cools will peel right off. Just dont touch the molds with your iron, just hold it over the surface.

It does! I tried this many years ago and just found a rose the other day that I made with hot glue in a silicone mold. This was many years ago before silicone molds became popular and I had made my own mold with mold putty and a rose cabochon. You dust the mold with glitter (fine, glitter, preferably) and then add the glue. They turned out really pretty. I actually made myself a mold of a glue stick so I could make my own glittery glue sticks, lol. This was before everything blew up and so many things became available. You couldn't buy a bag of glitter glue sticks for a dollar at that time like you can now. They were $3.99 or so at the craft store. It's amazing how far things have come in 8 years! I really became obsessed with crafting in December of 2012 when my kids got older and didn't need me so much anymore.

If you heat the mould up well till it's very hot and put the glue in right away it should allow the hot glue to flow better into crevices, as a thouroughly hot mould will not allow the glue to cool quickly.
The more thoroughly the mould is heated and the closer to the melting temp of the glue your using the better. Oven and a pair of pliers works well, watch the fingers.

Just a quick note hearing hot glue in glue pan ( 7 1/2 inch electric skillet works great can make glue more liquid.. just thought I would mention. Walmart has skillets they are anywhere from 10.00 to 15.00 dollars. Happy DIY ❣

They definitely look cool. Oh man I’m thinking the hot glue will quickly diminish the life/quality of a mold. Maybe some release spray just a few minutes before will be useful. The mica powder is probably a descent barrier but ..might want to have certain molds for only hot glues.
For people that are not able to use resin this would be sooo good!! Or for molds that aren’t newer 👌💯✌️✌️✌️

Ohhhhh thank you so much xx it is possible I guess ... I never really thought about it ... I know resin heats up too and moulds do deteriorate over time ... but absolutely great to use it with moulds that are not 100% ... it definitely worked best with the moulds that were less fiddly xxx

    • @notebookluvr
      @notebookluvr 3 ปีที่แล้ว

I'm thinking you would have issues getting the glue in it because of the opening where you put the glue in. The air being replaced with glue would need somewhere to go and would probably not allow much glue in at a time. It would make it very difficult because of the nozzle for the glue and the thickness of the glue coming out. I might try if I had a glue gun with the needle-like nozzle on the end but not with the regular, blunt style tip. I have a mold like that too so I am imagining the issues I might encounter.
