Acireale to San Leonardello by camper van - From Sicily to Ukraine part two

- I follow the Sicilian coastline using small roads north from Acireale to San Leonardello which is part of Guarre for administrative purposes. To my left is Mount Etna although it is rarely visible in this film. These are the villages at the foot of the volcano.
This is my longest camper van journey to date - from Catania in Sicily to Tomaszów Lubelski in eastern Poland! In fact the journey is even longer but parts of it are not included. The journey started in Brucoli, Sicily and will finish in Ternopil, Ukraine - and then I will return to Poland and possibly go to the UK.
I will be stopping at various places en route to see what is interesting there as well as to visit friends. I think this could be even longer than the series I did six years ago called Europe 2007. Europe 2013 could end up being 6,000km - and it is far more exciting by being in my camper van!
My channel on you tube : / alanheath is one of the most prolific from Poland. I have produced over 2,500 original films.
My big interest in life is travel and history but I have also placed films on other subjects.

I am very fortunate that I can spend a large part of my life travelling, thanks to the business I chose to run which allows me to do this. There are a number of films here on the packaging industry. This is because I am the publisher of Central and Eastern European Packaging -- www.ceepackagin... - the international platform for the packaging industry in this region focusing on the latest innovations, trends, design, branding, legislation and environmental issues with in-depth profiles of major industry achievers.
Most people may think packaging pretty boring but it possibly effects your life more than you really imagine!
Central and Eastern European Packaging examines the packaging industry throughout this region, but in particular in the largest regional economies which are Russia, Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Ukraine and Austria. That is not to say that the other countries are forgotten, they are not, but obviously there is less going on. However the fact that there are so many travel related films here is not from holidays but from business trips attending trade fairs around the region. Every packaging trade fair is a new excuse to make another film!
Thanks, Alan for making us part of your journeys. It's really appreciated.
I hope to meet you one day.
JB
Thank you - that is very nice of you to say so!
Thank you - that is very nice. It also makes it more interesting for me! It depends on where the difference is between being able to speak a language and being able to get by and that is not clear but I more or less speak six to nine languages and understand several more!
I get the impression that there are not as many as there used to be and there are not too many in Italy!
I used to cycle in the Netherlands when I had "friends" over there about four years ago.Their bikes seemed to be designed with riders comfort in mind and of course because it is flat terrain I found it a lot easier to sustain my journeys. Also, they have cycle paths galore over there and as a cyclist you are treated with more respect than you would be in the UK in my opinion.
Owing to another ridiculous innovation by Google, I am no longer able to post video responses to my own videos. For those wanting to see the whole series please go to the playlist.
I sold my mountain bike last month because I found I could no longer ride more than a mile without having to stop due to breathlessness and aching legs. When I bought it back in 99 I used to whizz around the district clocking miles in double figures so i can sympathise with your predicament!
Tylko byłem w 2,000 metrów ale widok super. Mam film - nazywa się Sivestri Craters - można zobaczyć.
Pozdrowienia z Castrovillari, Kalabria!
I love the videos! It's neat to be a part of the journey. How many languages do you speak?
I am now in Hungary and there are roads here through towns on which cyclists are not allowed. That comes as a surprise when one really ought to encourage people to use greener forms of transport!
It looked like more than 30seconds. I would have just pulled right up that driveway. To each his own (:
Widzę, że droga na Etnę jest coraz gorsza. Szkoda samochodu. Mam nadzieję, że na szczycie nie było mgły i warto było jechać! Serdecznie pozdrawiam.
I would have mounted that curb.
I don't know the age of llewesa100 but my father rode 40 miles a day on his bicycle in his mid 70's. He rode from San Francisco to Seattle in 10 days in his 60's.
I am not going to damage my vehicle to gain thirty seconds!
Are you following the same road the 8th army took in WW2 My father was there and I want to trace his footsteps too if possible
+dislexic landlord Yes, this is the route that was taken by the Eighth Army in July and August 1943.
there was a Battle for a Bridge on road you travelled did you find it the DLI fought there with great courage thank you

That is further down the road. The bridge over the Simeto, south of Catania. th-cam.com/video/BJSx_oRCY-w/w-d-xo.html
But you need to exercise, even if you are not as fit as you used to be. Get the bike back and keep trying!
