  • We visit a neighborhood in Acireale and Piazza Europa where you can find just about anything.
There is a large deli with the most unusual cheeses we've ever heard of, a bakery, book store, shopping for clothing and other items and more. For more Acireale check this out • Carnival in Acireale &... . We also go to the historic section to try some gelato and go to the Belvedere, Public Garden of Acireale. Also we have scenes from Women's Day in Sicily.

Watching second time this video I saw you filmed book "Terra matta" and I stunned. It's just a self biography written by a man borned in 1899. Was an almost uneducated farmer who barely was able to write and speaks about his own hard life. He was a soldier who fight against in first line during the first world War (Italian history hide only south Italian soldiers had been pushing in first line to die!!!) He talked about killing enemies soldiers, about him unhappy marriage, about expating in Germany to find work...... but do you know what the peculiarity?
This unhappy man had been writing own memories in absolute secret, shaking Italian and Sicily dialect. When I passed away one of him sons found casually that wrote and though to publish it. That book won a literature review and has been read in all Italy.
Mr. Vincenzo Rabbito (that was him name) never knew him story made emotional many many people.

Some pages of that byography are very emotional. He said, when the war was over, to be back to river Piave, besides the edge with Austria, and to reflect how much was quite, thinking instead it became completely red because the soldiers blood when he had been fight in battle field.
How much southerns lost own life!

Hi eszter and Alfred what is the name of this amazing deli?
I watch your videos all the time you are amazing tour guides
The Sicily project is also intriguing
I’m a 53 yr old nurse in British Columbia canada and my specialty is hospice care I have never been to Sicily and hope one day to meet you both
I’m planning to spend a month in Italy maybe next year and most of it I hope will be in Sicily
My long term plan is once I pay off my townhouse to spend a year in Italy teaching English because I used to teach English in my twenties and loved it
I’m going to to take the tefl course to prep for that eventuality
I speak German Spanish French and want to add Italian to the mix
I also have degrees in anthropology and nursing with an interest in medieval art, architecture and history just a little bit about me
Thanks for the hours of great fun and videos grazie Mille arrivederci heather

Good morning to you both. I have watched over and over again the youtube while you where in the book shop. The surmane Cassar is rather predominately common here, while of special interest of the book "Las Salita Dei Saponari". It so happens that that my great grandfater is from Basilicata, Saponara. Thing is when I enter Saponara on "Maps" is gives me Saponara in Sicily not in Basilcata. Am pretty sure that there must have been, or there is a location named Saponara in Basilcata.
On a side note: I started laughing when Sig. Alfred mentioned what you fed him the other day.

Hi Eszter and Alfred, You both look so well. This was such an enjoyable video. Acireale looks like a lovely town. Like you Eszter I get great pleasure in visiting the local shops and chatting with the locals. What a lovely place to be, and now the weather is warming up even better. Thank you with much love ❤️ 😍

I have recently discovered your Channel and I am just loving it. it is so informative and fun to watch. My mother is Italian but I was not born there. I speak a fair amount of Italian, enough to be understood anyway and have been to Italy many times, but not yet to Sicily.
Can I ask you please, I have a friend in Palermo and his mother speaks Sicilian, that I cannot understand at all. But in this video everyone seems to speak Italian. Is this normal here now and is it the younger generation that now speak Italian..? I would love to know. I love how they are all so friendly and want to show you all their produce. Just wonderful.
Also, how long did it take you to learn Italian..?

Thank you for your comment. The official language of Italy is Italian, however in the different regions like here in Sicily they speak Sicilian. Beautiful and generous people.

Do they Celebrate Easter? Absolutely! From the darkness of the Colosseum on Good Friday to the ancient chants and watchfires of the Easter Vigil to the resounding music and joy of Easter Sunday Mass, Italy is Easter.

I just found your page. I’m sure you know there’s a large American community because of NAS Sigonella. I use to live in Aci Catena and lived in a villa overlooking Acireale. I miss it so much! Are you signed up or advertise with the base?
