    Soper with that spinner ball...when we was dialed in, he'd throw Xs all damn day. Just a solid bowler.

    what an enjoyable show to watch. really hard to root for one over another in every round, especially the final.how can you NOT root for the top seed in this one? im 6’5”, same as Mr. Tapp and modeled my approach to his in my prime…and his.

    Really, the Contreras -Tapp title match was one of the greatest of all time. I watched it live 36 years ago in another lifetime, and reviewing it today, as late as the 8th frame, I wondered, "did Contreras really win the match" as I remembered. Indeed, he did. A total classic, a day in the sun for Toby Contreras. Tremendous. But, but whatever happened to Toby Contreras? He would be about 61 now- did he never ever again make the top 5? This was a match in time, a slice of bowling history, a great feel good moment for Contreras, and all the fans.

    Love how Charlie Tapp tried to distract him on the last ball by going up and taking his ball off the rack before he threw. LOL

    Man what an ending to the title match. You can tell Tapp was pissed as hell.

    • @aedin6397
      @aedin6397 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      For sure. I had even felt sorry for Tapp until he walked off before the match had ended. Poor sportsmanship. Especially given that earlier, after he'd rolled a strike to win his match against Soper, he said aloud "Goon night Irene!" He could dish it out, but he couldn't take it.

    Seems odd that Tapp would leave the pair before the match was over. Contreras still needed two pins to win. Moreover, he should’ve congratulated Toby on his win while still on the air.

    This is when you had to make a good shot. Today because of the crybaby's on the tour you can miss by 5 boards and still hit the pocket. The PBA has really gone down the toilet.

    • @dbadm
      @dbadm 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      The PBA? How about the USBC? The entire game is a travesty compared to pre-1990. High women's league average this year 250; high men's league average 256. It is not unusual to see more 300 games bowled in one USBC National tournament than in the first 70 years combined.
      It's not the bowlers' fault. This is because the governing bodies of bowling have allowed it to happen. The game has lost its integrity. Talented bowling balls, walled up conditions, live pins have all made the game too easy. When I started bowling, a lane was 60 feet. I would venture to say that lane conditions are so easy today that, in effect, a lane is virtually 30-40 feet long. In other words, your target is that much closer and that much easier to hit.

    • @eldorado1965
      @eldorado1965 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Bowling centers were in competition to set up the best/easiest shot. I agree this allowed marginal bowlers to score. Thus the integrity and skill of the game was ruined

    Nelson should have corrected himself after misidentifying the pin action on Contreras's unusual pickup of the 2-7-8. It was obvious the ball carried the 8 on first view. When the slow motion replay confirmed it he missed a great chance to point out the interesting fact that the 8 took out the 7, not vice versa.

    Too bad Contrares didn't go on to be a big star; the fans would've loved him, and he would've been great for the game. Charlie Tapp was a true "Debbie Downer," showing no class by walking off without congratulating this kid. Without his lucky Brooklyn strike in the 9th, it wouldn't have been close. He deserved to lose.
