    Got the same telescope, quick question ; do you remove the entire front cap (dust cap) from the front of the scope or leave it on and remove only the little circular one but leave the dust cap on? Kind regards

    • @astroamateuruk
      @astroamateuruk  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Take it all off to let more light in, you could leave it on and remove the small cap to view the moon as it is so bright.

    • @gruffcube
      @gruffcube 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Taking off the little cap will turn the dust cap into a sunshield meaning it is better for daytime observing but it still isn't safe to look at the sun. It can also be used for better images of the full moon.

    You got the adjusters the wrong way around the front one is left right and the back one is up and down

    why does mine never line up with the red dot? like I have to mark how low it needs to be for me to see the moon or a star

    • @astroamateuruk
      @astroamateuruk  ปีที่แล้ว

      You need to adjust the red dot finder, during daylight point the telescope at an object in the distance (something stationary, not moving) then adjust the red dot finder to point at the same object, start with a low magnification eyepiece at first, adjust the red dot finder, then change the eyepiece for one with more magnification then again adjust the red dot finder so that they are both pointing at the same object.

    How close is your eye to the back end of the red dot finder no one every mentions where you put your eye. The dot moves around depending where my eye is. and do you use both eyes or one. I can’t see a red dot for the life of me and it’s has a new battery. I saw one a yesterday and now it’s disappeared. I’ve spent hours trying to align the scope and the finder and this red dot is going to cause my demise,,,any minute, someone HELP please

      Hi sorry for the late reply. When i use use the red dot i am actually about half way down the scope, sometimes 1 both eyes sometimes just the 1. It could be that the red dot is that far out (too far left/right/up/down) that ot isnt insight. This hobby really can be annoying at times but so rewarding when you eventually find something/anything out there. Also i havent been able to make any more videos as where i now live i am surrounded by trees and not having any spare time to go out with the scope.

      @@astroamateuruk thank you very much for replying,. Much appreciated. The battery wasn’t sitting properly in the finder which was why I couldn’t see a red dot at all, I ended up putting a piece of cardboard on top of the battery to push it down and then screwing the cover on. I’ve managed to calibrate finder and scope and can use it during the day. I’m practising finding all the various knobs by feel. Can’t wait to see the rings of Saturn. Wish me luck. It’s a pity you can’t use your scope, your videos were very helpful. Makes me realise as a complete beginner how you forget just how little a novice user knows and understands. I watched 8 different channels on finderscopes and not one said how to look thru the red dot one. They mentioned using two eyes but no one said how far back your eye is from the eye piece. The way mine is constructed you can’t get your eye right on it anyway. The instruction booklet was very basic and talked more about the science of how the galaxy rotates than how to use the telescope.
      I’ll stop rambling. Go well and “ Sursum spectante” 🥂🦘

    Hi, can you tell me what I am doing wrong if I can’t see my red dot at all? It’s switched on and I can see it is on but not in the scope?

    • @astroamateuruk
      @astroamateuruk  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You wont see the dot in the scope.
      What you do is point the scope at a target off in the distance during the day is best, using a low magnification eyepiece such as a 25mm, (something solid that wont move, a singpost/chimney stack/tv aerial etc) then adjust the red dot up/down left/right so that the dot is on the same target as the scope. Then repeat with a say a 10mm eyepiece, checking that the scope and red dot are pointing at the same target, if they are then well done you have aligned tje red dot to your scope if not then keep making adjustments to the red dot until the dot and scope are pointing at the exact same spot.
      Hope this helps.

    Hi mate,
    I can't get my new skywatcher 200p telescope into focus at a distance of anything over 100 meters, it's always blurry whatever strength of eyepiece I use. Any ideas what going wrong?
    Thanks.

    • @astroamateuruk
      @astroamateuruk  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ok, make sure the eyepieces are clean no fingerprints, if you're looking through a window make sure that is clean also, dont bother with the barlow for now, during the day start with the smallest magnification ep and find a target to look at far away, lamp post/tree tops/rooftops etc and use the focuser until it comes clear, if the object is too far away it may not look clear just find a closer target, then change eyepieces see what you get, it took me a little while to get used to getting focus.

      Thanks for getting back to me mate. Can get stuff in focus at 50 meters but anything over that like say fields in the distance, its always blurry?
      If it won't focus on that how will it be when I do eventually point it into the night sky?
      I'm using a 25 mm eyepiece as it's the shortest focal length I've got.
      I'm pulling what's left of my hair out! 😩

      Have you tried looking at the moon yet, give that a go when you can if it still doesn't look right maybe it needs collimating

    how do i make my telescope go up and down?

    • @astroamateuruk
      @astroamateuruk  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it is a manual telescope then you would use the slow motion controls and adjust with them

    • @astroamateuruk
      @astroamateuruk  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are telescopes that have motors to do that job too but they usually cost a significant amount more

    How to align a red dot finer:
    1) Remove battery.
    2) Line up red dot finder with circular target.
    3) Drop red dot finder into circular target.
    4) Take out red dot finder with the rest of the trash on Wednesday.
    5) Buy a real finder scope.
