    Just a thought....Maybe Celestron, you should include actual information with your scopes on how to align/calibrate the included red dot finder. My 114AZ had nothing in the box other than how to mount it on the tube. A 1 sheet on how to turn on/off, change battery, align with screws is desperately needed.

    There really aren't any good videos for beginners. It's great to see this one and I hope there are more like this.

    I've got a Celestron NexStar 130 SLT Telescope with that same exact red dot finder on it. This information about how to use one properly is a big help for those who are just beginning.
    I'm looking forward to the next installment of these awesome Celestron videos!!!

    Do yourselves a favour and get a Telrad. I hesitatted for years getting but once I did it transformed my enjoyment of astronomy instatly. Not very expensive, either.

    @celestron I am having an issue where my finderscope has reached the limit of its range of motion and they are still not lining up. Is it possible to extend this range or maybe I have fastened it incorrectly?

    Hello
    I have an astro fi 6 with the red dot finder.
    I am trying to align the finderscope.
    In the 25mm unit I see an reversed image
    Why ?
    Is this OK to align the finderscope with this ?
    Thank you

    What gets passed over here is how to actually adjust the finderscope.

    I had a few issues I was hoping you could help me with. I am brand new to telescopes so I have no experience and I don't know if what I am experiencing is normal or not. I have a Celestron Nexstar 127 SLT with the red dot Finderscope. Before the first time I tried to use my telescope, I took it outside and tried to align the finderscope with the telescope. I was able to align it the best I could. Later that day I moved the scope to my night time viewing location and I wanted to make sure the finderscope was still aligned. I turned on the red dot but now it was going off and on and I would have to tap it to get it to come back on when it went off. The battery was brand new that day so that wasn't the problem. Once I was able to get it to stay on, then I tried to align the scope but I noticed that the az and alt knobs were hard to turn, and by trying to turn them the red dot would move around a lot. I checked that the thumbscrews were tight and that the finderscope was mounted properly, but the red dot would still move considerably. Also, just touching the finderscope would move the red dot off target. I understand how important the alignment needs to be and how small the margins are for it to be off, so I would think that once it is aligned it would be hard to move it. The next day I tried to align the red dot finderscope with an earth bound object. I would center the object in the eyepiece of telescope, then turn the az-alt knobs to adjust the red dot, but I noticed it would move considerably when just touching the finderscope or the adjustment knobs.
    I don't know if these things are common or not, or if I have a defective finderscope. I don't understand why the red dot was going on and off when trying to turn the knobs. The battery was brand new and the temps were between 45-50 degrees. I also don't know how the finderscope can stay aligned or how often you have to align it since it seems very easy to move it off target just by inadvertently touching the finderscope. Let me know if you have any suggestions to these problems. I saw one video where the person cut a small piece of thick paper to shim the finderscope. I was also going to remove the finderscope, then turn the knobs so the are in the center of their range, then try to reinstall the finderscope more securely. The issue with the red dot going on and off seemed to resolve itself the next day while it was inside. I just don't want to go out at night again and find I am having the same problem. Thanks for the info in this video.

    • @littlebee8704
      @littlebee8704 ปีที่แล้ว

      were you able to resolve this? I cannot get the red dot to work when mounted on the scope. If I walk around with it, it does. It's finicky, for sure, and it's very loose on the mount.

    • @glokinflangesson6363
      @glokinflangesson6363 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      First time you use it you need to pull out a plastic sheet squeezed in above the battery to keep it from draining and then you need to pull the powerswich on @@PouchMaster

      @justinforder2835 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      CR2032, the battery cover is underneath the front. It looks as if it might slide forwards, but it doesn't - you have to gently lever it away from the body of the finder to unclip it. See th-cam.com/video/0mRzQPQkcjI/w-d-xo.html

    On my just received AWB 130, I find it impossible to correctly adjust the altitude of the red dot finder. It will not adjust downward enough to align the dot with my target object of a chimney (approximately 1/4 mile away). Some suggest inserting a shim under the finder mount. However that is not possible with the finder mount on this AWB 130. Any suggestions?

    • @mauritsvw
      @mauritsvw 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Luckily most red dot finders are quite cheap. I'd suggest you take it to a telescope shop, and see if fitting another finderscope with maybe more adjustment does not fix the problem.

    I've seen people use pistol micro red dots as finderscopes. They do ridiculous zeroing methods tho, they can put the finder dot on Saturn, and the main optic will be dead on Saturn. These are the Brunea, Idaho Observatory guys doing this lol

    This video is a failure. It does not tell me where the "clear plastic tab" said to be between the battery and the contact actually is. I can't find any "clear plastic tab". Nor does this video, or the Celestron manual, explain what any of the buttons on this "starpointer finderscope" are, or what they're supposed to do. I have owned this telescope for less than three hours, and I already regret the purchase. What the hell, Celestron? You're incompetent to write a user manual?

    • @twm1452
      @twm1452 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s not an aircraft cockpit. 😊
      There is literally only 1 button, the on/off button. (Same button adjusts the brightness)
      Two other knobs adjust up/down motion position of dot and left/right position of dot. (A cursory inspection of the device will lead to an obvious conclusion as to which knob adjusts which direction.
      As for the where the “clear plastic tab” is between the battery and the contact. Theres a plastic battery cover that needs to removed to expose the battery, you’ll find said “plastic tab” between the battery and the electrical contact. (Assuming you have a brand new finder)

    i bought your evolution 6" sct it came with the standard red dot finder i mounted it to the scope and could never get it alined because it ran out of adjustment the best i could do was high and to the right out of the main scope field of view and is a piece of junk i had to buy a telrad to have a red dot finder on the scope from new !! also you could lift your game on accessories ..to give a customer a disposable type battery holder of very poor quality when you buy a CGX mount is a joke why not a proper power supply or 12v battery that would last a night that you can recharge its a $2000 mount !!...your optical tubes are ok why is all your accessories cheap nasty junk ??? you really need to lift your game celestron with your accessories
    cheers
