I’ve built 7 of these guys kits every one has came out absolutely beautifully
Excellent!
Do you paint them yourself?
@@Hiro.the.God. yess sir!
Let's see them in a video!! Come On!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've attempted 3-still missing the third kit and emails go unanswered. Ordered tools, asked for assistance-NOTHING! ZERO!!
All these freaking videos are equal to purchasing tickets on Ocean Gate submersible to dive on the Titanic!.
I don’t think these guys sell tools.
I would definitely put blue masking tape on both the body and neck right up to the joint line before glue-up to make the cleanup as easy as possible.
That’s absolutely beautiful. Wood is amazing. Insanely gorgeous.
This manufacturer always seems to use quality wood.
It is so beautiful I wouldn't even want to put a finish on it! Amazing!
I'm glad you're trying one of Precision Guitar's kits. I've built two of their LP jrs. One was their standard with a P-90 route and pao ferro fingerboard. The second one was customized with a humbucker route and an ebony fretboard. Like you, I was amazed at the fretwork. I took both to my guitar tech to install the nut and do a setup. He was very impressed with the quality of these guitars. They both play and sound great. I can't wait to watch your progress on the LP!
I believe its how you put them together and if you get a better kit than a £99 one from China you can end up with a great guitar. I've built a few from the cheapest of cheap to crimsons kits. The crimson kit was for a customer and once it was finished the total cost was £1500+ with high quality hardware and pickups. The telecaster turned out fantastic and I'd say would stand up to any custom shop telecaster. That looks a fantastic kit and good to see a nice thick top.
Love your stuff! I have my first guitar at my parents house. It’s a busted old squire. Your videos have been inspiring me to want to go pick it up and try to refinish and replace the hardware. Would be lovely to play that guitar again.
That looks beautiful Brad. Be great to follow this through to completion every step of the way. Interested in how you’re going to finish this. Sat here waiting 👍
Cheers Andrew. Glad you’re looking forward to it.
Same here! I've done several and they are always great. Even the blems are great!
I have a LP Jr. single cut kit guitar from Precision. The fretwork was impeccable. I also bought their control cavity cover and pickguard, both fit perfectly. It's a keeper and cost me less than half of the big brand price.
Man, looking forward to this build! I bet it's going to be gorgeous.
I don't like fret markers either, great choice!
My very first kit build. Hands down Precision guitar kits. 59 Les Paul.
I will never get rid of it. Everything was perfect. Expensive yes. But for a good reason. No disappointments here. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Glad to hear it!
Wow, that black limba grain is amazing. Beautiful kit!
This is excellent, really looking forward to seeing a build from Precision Guitars.
I've been waiting for you to review a Precision Guitar, count me as a new subscriber.
Welcome aboard
@@BradAngove Thank You Brad.
I've worked on and repaired many kit guitars for friends and others.
I've always considered a kit guitar build for myself, however I wasn't too encouraged by any of the kit guitars I've worked on.
Precision Guitar has so far been the only company that really checks off all the boxes on what I'm looking for in a kit.
I'm glad to be here and really looking forward to your build.
Be Well and Thank You for sharing your time with us.
Thanks for the great video, I've been thinking of picking up a Precision kit!!
They’re tough to beat
That is a beautiful kit. And that neck heel! Gorgeous!
Cheers Pete. I’m very excited about it.
Ohhhh nice you FINALLY got the kit !! :)
Worth the wait for sure
Bro! I’m getting one. I’ve never heard of them but I live in BC thanks for showing me this!
Enjoy!
That is a great body! I love black limba. Neck wood is a nice touch. I hope it will be a nice stain job that really brings out the grain. Light bourbon burst? Also like the no inlay idea.
Can’t wait for this build.
I’ll be keeping the finish fairly natural for the back and neck on this one I think.
You done some fantastic finish jobs since I have been watching so I know I will want one of these by the time you are done.
Hello again Brad,
That is a gorgeous kit! I’ve only worked with Warmoth stuff here thus far but I’m definitely going to have to check these guys out now for a cool set neck build similar to this one you’re about to do now man. That black limba looks incredible too, can’t wait to see what kind of cool finish you decide to do of course as well. I’ll be heading on over to their site as soon as this video ends as well, thanks as always! 🤙
PS ~ just out of curiosity did you go with stainless frets? When I check these guys out I guess I’ll see, I’ll also check and see if you have a link which might give some sort of small discount if you’re sponsoring them, if so I’ll obviously do it when I’m ready 🤙 once again thanks, very cool video.
I don’t have a discount link at the moment, but I may ask them if it’s an option.
I got the jescar 45100 frets.
@@BradAngove , thanks. Looking forward to seeing what you do with this one. I’m sure it’ll be very nice whatever you decide though 🤙
So glad you are doing this build. I've advocated for PGK for years. Quality is second to none in my opinion. Fretwork is impeccable and routing is precise. Neck pocket leaves zero gaps as every neck is built for that specific body. I purchased 4 kits from them and have finished 3 so far.. A Korina '58 Flying V clone with gold hardware, Les Paul Jr with P90, and a Telecaster with maple neck. Number 4 is a Limba Stratocaster with a natural orange stripe running through it.. That one will get a Floyd rose 😀. My advice is to spend the extra money on quality hardware. The kits aren't cheap so you might as well go all the way and make it a killer one of a kind axe. They play just as good as my Gibson LP. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with on this one, Brad!
Cheers Anthony
I'm planning my build now
They sent you a hell of a kit
Really nice-looking kit. That black limba is gorgeous.
I've built 2 guitars, both kits from Precision: 1) Tele-style, swamp ash body, maple neck and fretboard (no inlays), 2) Strat-style HSH baritone, mahogany body and neck, macassar ebony fretboard (again, no inlays). Fretwork was impeccable and neck pockets super snug. Both bodies had some pretty rough marks/scrapes from factory sanding that required additional sanding, but that's pretty much all that was needed. The Strat-style forearm carve was way too sharp an angle for my taste, so I hand shaped that. The Strat-style fretboard also had a couple of small, rough imperfections where a tiny chunk of wood was missing at either end; you'd have to be looking really hard to see them.
Really happy with how they turned out, overall. They play really well and sound awesome (Seymour Duncan pickups: Quarter Pound set for the Tele, Sentient neck/Hot Rails middle/Pegasus bridge for the Strat). If you don't already have one, I recommend building a baritone: it'll change your life :)
I’m glad to hear your builds went well. I would love to do a baritone at some point.
That is nice. Can't wait to see what you do with it.
Ngl, that did look awesome. I was happy for you.
Thats going to be a wicked git. That neck pocket is crazy tight. Boutique stuff here man.
Yes sir. I’d take this over a standard LP any day.
That looks like a fantastic platform. I knew about Precision but didn't know teyt are that far above the average kit. Can't wait for you to work your magic on it. Carry on.........
Cheers
Looks like a really nice kit. I can't wait to see what you do with it, finish wise. I'm sure it'll be great as always. ✌️
I think I’ll be keeping it pretty simple on this one given how nice it already looks.
Worth every penny. I have 2 of their SGs.
Awesome
This one is gonna be exciting.....getting popcorn
I plan on ordering one based on your video
Solid choice
I’ve built two of their kits, quality is amazing
Great to hear.
Amazing guitar kit..so beautiful
Thanks Ariel
That is sick man! Absolutely gorgeous
Very informative! Fun to see you get so excited about this kit, and justifiably so. Nice wood choices! I'm debating doing a kit soon, as I think I finally have the bare minimum of skills (just now learning to solder...). I'm a cheapskate so I doubt I'll be going with this brand but it's good to know it exists. I've done a lot of fret leveling/crowning and truss rod adjusting, so I'm confident with things that might be more challenging for others. In other words I'm thinking I can make a cheap kit work for me, especially as a first try. Thanks for these helpful videos! I'll be watching more of your kit clips I'm sure!
Thanks Chris. I’ve mostly built more inexpensive kits from solo on this channel. If you know how to do the neck work and setup, you can certainly make them work.
Damn...imma have to look into these kits .. been upgrading and repairing guitars now for a cpl of years with great results...time to build one. That heel carve alone sells it for me 😀
Yeah the heal carve is a very nice touch.
WOW Brad that looks amazing !!!! I've done two kits from PGK and didn't have do any fretwork on either one… they were absolutely perfect !!! can't wait to see what you do with it !
That’s great to hear!
The first thing I said was "OMG SO SHINEY!!!!!" And it looks like they tried to match that wood spalting from body to neck on one side. I'll have to do a few baby kits before I can move up to this level, but lordy, that's a pretty fret board.
Nice looking kit. The wood looks really nice. If you tape around the neck pocket edges when you go to glue it up it will help keep squeeze out off of the areas where you don't want glue.
Yeah, I’m also going to do my staining work before I glue to avoid having the glue mess it up.
Stunning buddy.
Hope you're well
All the best 👍✌😎
Cheers Mark
loving this body. I still reckon slight tint clear on the back to show off that timber. looking forward to see it finished. sensational kit. I know Brad you will do it justice.
Thanks David
Spalted Maple. Condition occurs when trees lay on ground for a period of time before milling. Iffn I recall correctly, a fungus causes the coloring. Can be quite stunning, and no two are alike.😊P.S. if you splash a bit of thinner on the wood it will give you a read on what the grain and colors will look like with finish applied. Water will work, but thinner won’t stain and flashes off quickly.
Nice I'm looking into it precision awesome
Back in 2020 I decided I wanted to build a guitar after finding your videos. Start with a kit from Fretwire, it was rough, figured that was typical of the china kits. Ended up sending it back because of an issue(which they were great about). Went with a kit from Precision. Sure, I busted my original budget for the build, but the Precision kit was perfect. Didn't have to do any of the work your old kit videos had be prepared for. It was literally sand it, seal it, paint it, and glue it together. For me, the rookie builder and rookie guitar player, the hardest part was getting the nut just right and the initial set up. Once I got that all dialed in it came out great. I guess the extra cost of the kit was somewhat recovered by the fact that I didn't have to buy a pile of specialty tools for the build lol
That totally makes sense. If you’re just building one or two and want to make sure they’re good at the end, this is a great option.
Amazing kit black limba maple and wenge fretboard. Clearly a quality kit. Envious that I'm not Canadian.
I assume they ship to the US, but I’m not sure about overseas.
Great info Brad - thanks so much, love the vidz.
Thank you
Holy carp ... Stunning
I’m certainly impressed
These kits look amazing. I have built a couple Warmoth guitars. These look just as good for a lot less$$$
Warmoth is definitely pricey haha
I've built two of these, a Tele and an lpj. Didn't have to touch the frets, and they play great.
Awesome. Glad to hear it.
I’ve ordered one from Precision that they are putting together for me. Waiting about 10 weeks to get my quilt maple Tele style. I’m super excited. Really want to see how you finish this.
I bet that will be beautiful
Video idea for once you're caught up on all your guitar projects. Guitar collection video. Probably do an update yearly, because you appear to never stop producing guitars. Even if you were to grab a guitar from the PGK clearance section, you wouldn't be disappointed. They make great products. Ordered them from America with plans to buy more. Their archtop kits with full maple caps look awesome.
I didn’t even realize they had a clearance section. That’s a great idea.
Brad, that's a BEAUTIFUL guitar eh. You better not mess up on the finishing video. I'll be watching.😂🤣😂🤣🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🤘
I’ll see what I can do haha.
I just recently ordered a kit guitar from Precision Guitar Kits. The one I ordered looks very similar to the one in the video. I ordered the LP style with a 25.5 scale, 3A quilt maple, and dot inlays. I did go with the black limba body and neck.
3A quilt hey? I bet that’s beautiful.
@@BradAngove I’m sure it will be. I just ordered it on 07/01/2022, so I probably won’t get it until the first September.
I know you have reviewed Crimson Guitar products so I have a question for you. I recently received my Precision Guitar Kit. I was going to finish the body and headstock with stunning stains. I also know I’m going to use Crimson’s High Build Oil on the neck. My question is, do you think I could get a nice sheen with Crimson’s Oil on the body or should I clear coat?
Crimson oil gives a nice sheen, but it’s not a full gloss. I’m not sure what you’re looking for.
Do you have a video where you add a finish to black limba? I want to do an oil finish and I’m curious about the grain filler (what’s the best kind, advantages/disadvantages to using it, etc.). Thanks!
Great kits. Iove my Les Paul Jr.
Stunning kit. Kind of takes some of the fun out of it but if you are looking for top quality this definitely looks like it.
Absolutely. I would normally do a bunch more sanding etc. I’m tempted to on this one anyway, but it just feels wrong to mess with it honestly.
@@BradAngove haha yeah why mess with perfection!
@@BradAngove Could do a custom headstock cut or something though.
Awesome Precision.
They got some awesome wood LOL...
Right on
I am absolutely getting one of these kits. I wanted to do their Firebird, but it has OG "reversed" which is not reversed and they don't offer a lefty neck. Or any headstock on any body. But the ES-335 is going to be my pick.
Well I hope you enjoy the build.
Another great video!
Dumb question .... What do you do will all the guitars you make? Seems like you would have a whole house full by now.
I have quite a few kicking around haha. I’ll have to start selling some one of these days.
I do like warmooth kits
Great video, Brad. I'm still in my search for the right guitar kit, specially because the guitar I want almost doesn't exist (a 7-string acoustic -electric).
The only option I have is a ESP LTD TL-7 what costs about 700 and still have to upgrade the electronics. I already asked to PGK if they make custom orders. I hope they do. Looking forward to see the result on this one!
If they don’t, crimson guitars might. Or warmoth.
If they don’t, crimson guitars might. Or warmoth.
The kit looks great, can't wait for the build videos, do you know what the headstock angle is? Thanks for the video Brad
I’m not sure, but I suspect it’s probably similar to a standard LP or maybe a bit less.
Dude, Christmas in July!
For sure
Nice kit. How long does it take to order one?
I think they take about 5 weeks since they obviously build them to order. Not sure if that’s consistent though.
Wow, that is very impressive!
Looks like med-jumbo frets? Stainless?
Will be interesting how this project comes along, and what kind of finish you have in mind.
Jescar 45100 for the frets.
It’s a beauty
Indeed.
I’ve built two PGK and they are amazing. Substantially better than my brand name LP. These are at least as good as a G custom shop.
They certainly seem that way to me!
Looks amazing! Any discount coupons for these?
I wish haha. We haven’t got an arrangement in place for that as it stands.
I hope you are going to video record the whole build as I have questions, and if we can see the completion of the build, my questions will be answered. Thanks.
Will do Scott. I usually do haha.
Did you get binding on the body? I can’t tell. I like the no binding look.
No, I’m not all that fond of binding personally. I ordered it without.
That's gonna look awesome when finished! Gonna stain it or paint it? Really looking forward to how you finish it!
This one is going to be a combination of stain, paint, and oil I think.
So............... I am going to be super cheeky....... I looj forward to seeing this finished sometime next year 😜😜😜 Sorry Brad. We all love you 💜💜💜 Sarah
That’s a totally fair comment haha
Very impressive, it’s good to see higher quality kits, plus excellent wood choices. How’s the weight? Can’t wait to see some scratch build action. Hint hint
The weight isn’t bad at all. Black limba is good for that haha. I think if there was more maple it would start to get a bit heavy.
Please do a Wilkinson kit from StewMac
I've been seriously considering their 335.
I didn’t even know they had one until recently.
Great stuff.
I have been following PGK for some time and think it is fantastic stuff. Yes $$ is an issue, especially after you factor in the whole build cost and (sell) aspect. If you are building your own dream axe then this is the only choice (in Canada) really, for full satisfaction. If you are looking to build/ sell it might be challenging to profit. Just a 🤔.
Good one, Thanx.🎸
This is definitely good quality if you’re building your own. I find the concept of building kits to sell a bit odd.
Very nice kit! Pricy but very nice.
Indeed
I just received my first set neck PRS style carved maple cap DIY kit. However, upon checking the neck fit, it looks like the fretboard sits to high in the neck pocket. There is about a 4mm gap between the top of the guitar body, and the bottom of the fretboard. There is also a small ledge that extends about 3 or 4mm beyond the end of the neck, and it looks like it should line up to match the top of the body, along the front edge of the pickup cavity. Can you recommend some steps I should take to verify what the height of the fretboard should be? I don't want to start routing the neck pocket deeper, if it's not necessary, but it seems to me that the bottom of the fretboard should be almost touching the top of the body. I would appreciate your input.
Get the bridge installed and then check by running a straight edge from the nut to the saddle with the neck in place. If the neck is too high there will be a substantial gap or if the angle is off the straight edge will be too close to the high frets.
What happened to that Bad Cat "Zebrawood" build? You've done a few other projects since unveiling it but have yet to start working on it (at least that we know of) can we expect that thing to be built some time this year? I've been eagerly awaiting that series since you first showed it.
I have a couple things left to iron out on that build, but I expect I can probably get to it fairly quickly once I’ve done so.
@@BradAngove That's good to know. Thanks for responding! \m/
I'd be interested to know if the frets required any leveling after the guitar was assembled.
They didn’t. It being assembled doesn’t change anything from that perspective.
Nice Brad, which kit is that with the carves?
The AX carved top custom.
@@BradAngove Thanks!
Always wanted to order one of these, but couldn't pull the trigger due to price. Not to mention their offerings with left handed is a little thin.
Yeah it’s not easy to find backward guitars kicking around.
@@BradAngove but: going back to their page for the first time in years, they do have some more offerings!
Might have to finally build that pseudo - Jag Tanna signature I've always dreamed of!
I wonder if they can make a 25.5 scale length neck for these. It be rad to have their "x type" with a fender scale
I think you get to select your scale on these.
Nice
With the neck being that tight, are you only seeing glue on the bottom of the neck, and glues is but squeezed out on the sides?
I’ll probably tape the top around the pocket to protect it and just to a very thin layer of glue throughout.
Brad: "they're not going to send you pots made in china"
Solo guitars: *looks around nervously*
Haha well solo sends the full kit and lets you upgrade if you want. Their kits aren’t nearly as expensive though. Wouldn’t make much sense to do a test build with cheap parts on a kit like this one.
I have heard that Precision Basses are really good too! Lol
I feel like I’ve heard that somewhere as well…
Hey, does it come with the neck nut at all? Or do I have to buy one separately and carve it out my self?
It doesn’t come with any hardware, so you would get one separately. You should have no difficulty finding a pre-carved on though that you can just adjust the height of by removing a bit from the bottom.
Very nice but I think you made a mistake not getting inlays in the fretboard.
Thanks. I disagree on the inlays, but it’s custom so if you can one you can certainly get inlays.
😍😍😍
INDUBITABLY! I just ordered their M6 (double-cut) in African Mahogany, one humbucker, Hipshot bridge. I can't wait! 😱🤩😎I was thinkin' about a black stain... but on African Mahogany, would that look like muddy sh-t? I don't want to mess it up, because I'm selling a guitar to afford this build! 🤣
You can always sand it off if it looks bad.
Do u work with emgs and Seymour duncan
I’m not sure what you mean by work with them. I’ve certainly used them before.
Upgrades to the shape? What if someone wants the un upgraded model? Is that available?
They have a classic model available rather than the modern.
The LP kit I have . Is totally not seamless and needs all kinds of work.. (and for a noob guitar builder such as me could probably use the practice) but….I guess next time ima have try these guys out
They are unreal. They do take some of the work out of it, for better or for worse.
@@BradAngove I checked out the specs and they use Jescar wire for the fretboard(I heard that’s higher quality stuff) but solo does have a Strat kit I’ll get off your link ,and as for the Precision I’ll get another LP since I got measurements tools and other crap I’m using to build the one I’m currently working on.
which flame maple top did you choose?
I’m not sure actually. I told them to just go ahead and select one.
Like it! useful ~
Brad, if you don't mind. Are you located in Calgary?
I’m in Edmonton
@@BradAngove thank you for the reply
I build boutique acoustics. I build Precision electrics. I practice new finishes on Solo kits and give the accumulated hardware, strings, and stuff to Music Go Round.
Brad, what took so loooonnngggg to get one of these.. ??? dyed top or sprayed lacquer?.. please dont use a solid color rattle can.. !!! (jk).. a bourbon burst would look awful nice on this one.. nice touch with the fretboard and no inlays.. looks fantastic.. nice choices.. the spalted does well with yellow/browns shades.. WOW.. hope you are doing a detailed build on this one..
No planets on this one? Haha yeah we will have a build series. It probably won’t be long; theres not that much to do on a kit like this.
