  • We kick off this episode with a double helping from down under as Sydney plays host two two big crowd pullers. First up was SailGP, the penultimate stage in the second season where there was plenty of drama as the pressure built ahead of the million dollar finale in March.
The Rolex Sydney Hobart is an offshore classic and after the pandemic forced organisers to cancel last year’s event, there was a keen appetite this year among sailors and spectators alike for the Boxing Day special. According to the competitors, this year’s 600 mile race to Tasmania turned out to be one of the toughest ever. But the history books will mark this race as special for another reason, that of the spectacular achievement of one man and his crew in particular.
We visit the 50+ knot club in Namibia as the speed sailing season delivers some outrageous performances in the windsurfing world, as well as seeing what happens when it all goes to rats.
For 50 years the Youth Sailing World Championships has played host to what have become some of the biggest names in sailing. This time it was the turn of Oman to host the event where oodles of talent was clearly on tap. If you'd like to know what the future holds, this event had plenty of answers.
Plus, we bring you up to speed with an update on the America’s Cup and preview of the new AC40 in build and talk to the man at the top in World Sailing about the paralympic plan.

Hi Matthew. Thank you for the video. Would love to hear your take on the protest between ichi ban and celestial. I find that story very interesting.

An excellent wakeup from winter hibernation.
The foiling interview is indeed worth a listen. Its interesting that all the leadmine classes are long gone from the olympics (though the doublehanded proposal was very interesting).
I somehow missed the story of how sailing got tossed from the paralympics. Do you have a video that discusses that?
The interview with Al Balushi turned out to be private and inaccessible.

There seems to be a lot of content in here that looks more like infomercials than real content....from furlers, to ropes, to "new" cloth for clothing these all look like sponsored content to me....not against ads....but I do think they should be clearly identified as ads

I would have thought it was fairly obvious that some parts are sponsored, for anyone who regularly watches PlanetSail. However, I think there's enough integrity to present sponsored content that's of interest. Well, it is to me anyway. 😎🇦🇺

@@maxhugen yes you are right. But in most parts of social media sponsored content has to be clearly identified as such. That is not the case with the infomercial bits within the planet sail content.

I think you shouldnt cover sydney hobart without at least mentioning the protests that decided the outcome, no?
