    I enjoy time lapse a lot better than the usual B-roll they tend to put. They try to hype people up and be entertaining, but I find THIS more entertaining, simply because it's step by step of how something is made from scratch, giving better understanding. One of my favorite TH-camrs, Jafro does this with commentary so you can learn things you might have never known before

    Gotta love you're doing the lathe work on a "home built". Kudos kid; from a retired general machinist.

    I would talk to any parts suppliers that have things you need about sponsorship. If they watch this video im sure they'd be on board with you and take some of that financial burden off you. You've got so much potential there's a lot of people that would love to help a young guy like you progress!

    Excellent work on the axle...A Keyway Broach set would a great addition to your tooling. Save you a lot of time, effort and they're money well spent.

    Whenever milling or turning on the lathe to try to avoid going undersize you could always add 100/1000ths to your measurement, then go down to 50/1000ths then 25/1000ths etc etc. Remember 39/1000ths is about 1mm so 19.5/1000ths or 0.5mm cut on a lathe or milling machine boring tool will produce 39/1000ths or 1mm cut. When you're doing your final cut it should be about 10/1000ths off the diameter, high speed, low feed, milky water on, that's the soluable oil that you add to water for cutting. I used to be a Fitter/Machinist/Toolmaker so precision was the key to being a good tradesman. Also remember to use printer paper between any T Slot Milling Table & Vice or Rotary Tool plus paper between the workpiece & rotary table that you clamp to on the milling machine to prevent slippage & injury.

    • @jstephenallington8431
      @jstephenallington8431 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AimlessMoto He already stated in another video that he has heard all about not wearing gloves while machining. I'm hoping he never learns why he shouldn't wear them, the hard way. (Hey! at least he wears a face shield!)

    • @solarfunction1847
      @solarfunction1847 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's ok to use gloves for protection against flying hot chips, but you should not put your fingers into a spinning workpiece, that's all, it's pretty much common sense.

  • @Ratkill9000

    Outside of the lack of money for tooling, I remember how tedious it was to machine stuff in high school for class, which is why I'll out source my machining to a machine shop for my buggy build. Unless i can find a lathe and mill on Craigslist for $2000 for the pair.
    Also guessing you were also looking at Fox Racing shocks with bypass? Yeah trying to find shocks for this building without going broke is going to be a challenge. Car/truck shocks will be way too stiff. Maybe finding ones used, but who knows on the condition let alone how it'll be to rebuild them. This thing is coming along nicely. I wouldn't be surprised if it took you until Feburary to get the next video up, no worries on that.
    An option you can do for shocks is get Yamaha Banshee shocks for a long travel A-Arm conversion, they might end up being cheaper.

  • @solarfunction1847

    Make yourself up a 16" long by 1/4" wire stock hook where the hook is about 1" half a circle for pulling off the swarth or metal shavings when using the lathe. It's fine using gloves to protect your arms from hot swarth flying off the lathe but never reach in to pull any of the swarth out while the chuck is moving. That is what the little hook on a bit of wire stock is for so if it gets pulled into the job while the chuck is spinning at 1500rpm or more you can let go & hit the emergency brake on the lathe & you'll still have your fingers left on all your hands like before you started. The handle part of the hook can be just wrapped back around in a long U shape enough for you to grip onto.
    Great video's by the way, please don't take any offense to what i'm saying as I just don't like anyone to get hurt when it can be avoided.

    speaking from years of struggle!!
    if there is any play in the splined connection. the center holding bolt is going to keep coming loose.
    I had to loose the Allen bolt, open up the pocket so I could fit a hex head bolt in their, grab a grade 8 or grade 10 and put green loctite on it. I have a couple of videos of my rail. some of the drivetrain, nothing near as fancy as your shots.
    Anything loose in that spool, ( which looks amazing by the way awesome work ), will find its way to cause you pain and grief.

    Just found your channel, very cool to watch you machining. Project sounds like it will be fun. You can look at Locked Offroad for shocks and bumpstops. I just started using them on my buggy and their prices and customer service is great.

    Try using some cutting lubricant when you use the cordless drill. It'll help the bit to not catch and break your wrists. And some type of lubricant for the bits on your new expensive machine too. Last alot longer.

      And while Redbeard gets a free thousand dollar welding table, I haven't heard of any company sending Chris something like that. He should definitely be given some sort of sponsorship.

    Enjoying the Video as usual. Tolerance issues while machining, I'm sure someone has suggested this already, by swapping the Vernier Calipers for some Micrometers will get you a lot better results when machining. Happy New Year by the way, looking forward to what you produce in 2019.

    I wish I was more business savoy to be able to actually make enough money to buy some machining tools!
    Great Job! Looking forward to the outcome.👍

    Gosh I was thinking about off road + speed and prerunner/Baja racer came to mind! They are two wheel drive, have a lot of suspension travel and go really fast. THAT would be awesome.
