    3:27 It is important to note how Alex Kidd was born. If what you say is important and translate into the games we got, there is an important part missing. Sega was working on a Dragon Ball adaptation and decided to start the project before getting the right for it. They did not reach an agreement and the hero and some assets were used to create Alex Kidd! Yes, Alex Kidd is San Goku! This is why he has a monkey-like look or why some enemies seem to come from Dragon Ball. Even the infamous rock-paper-scissors boss fights are a reference any Dragon Ball fans knows about! Then, yes, as you said, it was used to answer Mario, and this is why we found blocks to be destroyed all over the game too...

    Nice romp through the history of Sega's mascots 😁 There was some info I didn't know of before :) I was a bit curious when the music for Sonic's story was slow and smooth instead of his regular fast and adventurous ones :) I wondered why Sega didn't try Psycho Fox as it the ah, mascot.
    Also, nicer that you knock the camera to the side, rather much than to have fallen in the direction way of the camera.cheers.:D

    I always thought Alex Kidd could have been a great mascot or long term character in general but with each game the quality dropped as Sega didn't really have a direction for him. Kind of the same with Wonder Boy although most of those games are high quality. I always wanted to see both transition to 3D

    • @RetroGamerBoy
      @RetroGamerBoy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Those would work well in 3D I think, I always felt Sonic did not make the transition to 3D well.

      @freddiejohnson6137 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RetroGamerBoy I agree with Sonic even to this day the better new games tend to be the 2.5D ones. I always seen Wonder Boy as Sega's metroidvania mixed with a bit of Zelda. It's just a shame it has taken third parties to be the ones resurrecting older Sega games.

    Alex Kidd was such a promising early mascot character as Miracle World was a great response to the original Super Mario Bros by providing the same type of game-play and level variety while adding vehicles, sprawling levels, and some light puzzle elements.
    .....................and then they squandered it with Alex Kidd The Lost Stars; a basic, simplistic left to right platformer that wasn't much fun. I felt so bitterly ripped off when I picked this game up with high anticipation. It looked that much worse when directly compared to SMB 2 (USA). I had absolutely nothing to do with High-Tech world and Shinobi World was too late and I had moved on to the Genesis, where we got Enchanted Castle which I looked into with some interest level but it turned out to be an unimpressive lesser variation of Miracle World on a new and more powerful console.
    So yeah the wheels pretty much fell off after the original game. At least Wonder Boy (Kind of a Sega mascot in his own right) managed to be more consistent with game quality and evolution.

    • @RetroGamerBoy
      @RetroGamerBoy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I feel like Sega learned a lot with Alex Kidd and then put this into the Sonic franchise. They tried so many different things with Alex Kidd, it was almost like he was the test bed for a bigger franchise.

      @@aurelie7436 Yes I agree it definitely looked like a good game to me when it was released. At that time though I was already knee-deep in Genesis and Turbografx gaming so I missed out on Alex Kidd in Shinobi World and Golden Axe Warrior. Didn't have the funds to put towards the Master System games anymore. The only 8-bit game that was able to take my attention span away during that time was SMB 3.

    Great insight! I was not expecting to learn anything new today 😅 I need to replay Alex kid as I wasn’t really a huge fan I remember playing slot on the master system but on the megadrive I was a kid chameleon fa before the sonic team came along and stole my heart but Dam poor sonic never really stood a chance against Mario as he was so many years ahead and had captured the powerhouse of the Far East . That kung fu frog seems a bit too close to yoshi, perhaps he evolved later as Gex for the ps1.
