That distinction makes sense in opposition to and in the context of the abuses of the indulgences that were going on in the Roman Catholic church. Some popes were simply selling indulgences for the forgiveness of sins and that was wrong even for regular catholicism.

@@matheusTM87 true. I saw some stuff recently that correlates western nominalism with the rejection of iconography which seemed pretty interesting. Although simultaneously, the Latin Church was making heterodox iconography at the same time of the reformation by depicting the Father as a man such as the famous Michael Angelo paintings in the Vatican.
yeah, don't forget the words "in me", if Jesus lives "in you" there is a "you" that is doing the works by participation in the supernatural works of Christ
Ok. This is put different than I've heard it explained before. So we are justified by the works that Christ does in us. Are these added to His works, like the cross etc.?
Ephesians 2:4-9: "But God, being rich in mercy, because of his great love with which he loved us, and we being dead in trespasses, he made us alive together with Christ (by grace you are saved), and raised us together and seated us together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, in order that he might show in the coming ages the surpassing riches of his grace in kindness upon us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you are saved through faith, and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God; it is not from works, so that no one can boast." Good works do not result in salvation, salvation results in good works. The order is important.
You guys sure love quoting that out-of-context (as you do other Scriptures). So, let's give this some context, shall we? "You were formerly dead through your trespasses and your sins. For once you lived according to the demon who is supposed to reign in the air, and according to the evil spirit, which is now worshiped by the sons of insubordination. Once we all were associated with them in the passions of our flesh. We were obeying the orders of our bodies and our imaginations. We were by birth children of desire like the rest. But God, who is rich in mercy, out of his excessive love for us, even when we were dead in sins, gave us life through Christ and delivered us through His grace. He raised us from the dead in Jesus Christ and made us sit with Him in Heaven. Thus He showed to the coming ages the immeasurable wealth of His grace and kindness toward us in Jesus Christ. You have been delivered by grace through faithfulness. It was not the result of you, but was a gift from God. It was not achieved by anyone, thus no one can boast of it. We are His work, created in Jesus, and pledged to good deeds, which we should perform as He has foreordained." So... What is this obviously talking about, that you seemed to miss because you quote-mined? It's simple. St. Paul is talking about the Incarnation, not this heresy of "Sola Fide." ☦️
So in other words, if you do the works of Christ because he is in you, you will act like Christ and be like Christ and all the things you do will be christ-like. So, doesn't that mean you work like Christ? I know that salvation comes through Jesus Christ because he already paid the price for us. But he does expect us to try our best, and that is what we are judged on.

Amen, a crucial distinction. Christ is risen!
I’ve never agreed with the dichotomy between the two that arose from the reformation.
That distinction makes sense in opposition to and in the context of the abuses of the indulgences that were going on in the Roman Catholic church. Some popes were simply selling indulgences for the forgiveness of sins and that was wrong even for regular catholicism.

nice 👍
So faith is a work? That just sounds like there's not much distinction between the two
That’s because there isn’t. Remember, scripture says ‘faith without works is dead’.
@@DoyleTX I do like this interpretation.

Trying our best means denying ourselves and letting Himself and His work project through us
