An I/O Magic Voodoo Banshee PCI was the first PC hardware upgrade I ever installed. It turned our family's Compaq Presario, with it's Pentium 233 MMX into a gaming machine. I was 13 at the time, and it took a lot of coaxing to get my dad to let me open up the tower to install it.
A Diamond Multimedia Voodoo Banshee was the first component I ever installed into a computer (an HP Pentium II 266Mhz). It was a must to play 3D games.
No one forgets their first graphics card. Makes me wonder if in 20 years time people will be just as misty eyed about an RTX 3090 :D (To be honest I would shed a tear if I had one, or at least my wallet would be crying)
Had a voodoo 2 in my first pc I got from dad with windows 98 and a 200 mhz cpu dont know which one. Had like 150 mb storage on that one hehe. With a floopy disk reader and an optical drive for cds or pc disks.
My first graphics card I bought was an Nvidia in '99 so I missed out on 3DFX at the time, they are cool to play with now (though the prices have gone up like crazy)
first of your videos i watch and this is really great. i enjoy your tone and pace and overall positive yet grounded presentation. kudos! I hope to see more of your content soon. PS: my first 3dfx card was a voodoo3 upon release but i know have a Banshee in my collection and am wondering in what setting to use it best at (vs Voodoo 2's and 3's) - will probably use it in a P1 200MMX. Cheers!
Thanks for commenting - I have my banshee currently set up with my P3 500. Its ok but its compatibility doesn't seem as high compared to the voodoo 1 and 2. And its performance lags behind the geforce 2 GTS that I had in before, but its still kinda cool to see the 3dfx logo pop up when I start up Quake GL :D
@@ByteSizeThoughts Yeah, I remember when I had an S3 with an 8mb voodoo 2 daughter board. That combination had smoother performance in glide than the 16mb standalone Banshee I bought later on! I was somewhat underwhelmed at the time and wondered why I changed. I also had the blue Gigabyte pcb.
@@ByteSizeThoughts true. I like his gaming color mached combos. I invite you to my other youtube channel! Not much videos yet, but I have a nice collection and will record more videos one day. th-cam.com/video/hBJ9PASLsVk/w-d-xo.html

I remember puting in a TNT2 Ultra into the family computer when I was 16 or so. I was sweating bullets! :D

That's one awesome looking Banshee, with it's blue PCB! It would be interesting to see the difference between this and a Voodoo 2 in some games.
Yesssssss. It’s all coming back. This was the card I could afford. lol.
A 3dfx is better than no 3dfx :)
