Hello ladies, lovely to see you taking a look at Map Men, informative and amusing, just like yourselves. I live south of York in "you guessed it" Yorkshire, back in Roman times York was very important, thanks to this York is now a favourite place outside of London for people like your good selves to visit (due to the history and much of the old city walls and city itself still standing), there are several good videos on TH-cam showing York in all it's glory, Daydreamers Barn have a recent one (though I think they replaced Barn for something else and I can't remember what) they are a US/UK couple living in the UK now, you won't be disappointed, and Yorkshire even rained especially for the video, that last bit might not be 100% accurate, we're in the north, it rains often, but it's a good video regardless, take a look at where I grew up as well as one of the best living examples of a genuinely old city, look out for The Shambles hand on heart you won't be disappointed. Take care ladies 😊
Hi Xee and Cyn, I can explain the confusion in one word, politicians. or if you want more, politicians needing to feel as though they're doing something to earn the exorbitant salary they don't deserve.
Grimsby (created by a Viking called Grim) is a fishing port on the East Coast Of England 🏴 in North East Lincolnshire my hometown on the river Humber the second most dangerous river in England 🏴. In the early 90s Grimsby returned to Lincolnshire along with the rest of North Lincolnshire or South Humberside as it was on the 1st April 1974 I was born a number of months later.
The confusion still exists today. My hometown is in Lancashire (historical county), Cheshire (postal county) and Merseyside (administrative county). We just shrug our shoulders and proudly say we're Lancastrians, or if we're really trying to impress people, say we're from Cheshire (sounds less industrial and more countryside than Lancashire). We NEVER, NEVER say we're from Merseyside, even though our town is literally on the banks of the River Mersey, because we don't want to be lumped in with the Scousers (Liverpudlians). It's all about perceived status. As for Yorkshire...they're the enemies of Lancashire, due to the Wars of the Roses, even though the Wars of the Roses didn't actually involve the actual Counties of Yorkshire (white rose) and Lancashire (red rose) and all of the battles were fought down south. The only time us Lancastrians and Yorkshire types ever agree is when we're bashing the namby pamby soft southerners!
Never mess with Yorkshire. Yorkshire independence NOW!
I come from Sheffield in South Yorkshire, the home of Stainless Steel!
YOU'RE confused? Try living here 😊
