These screens are in fact VERY easy to damage -- soft enough to easily scratch from a dirty rag and also susceptible to be damaged with any kind of cleaning solution. I see this in my Facebook car group all the time, when people use Windex on it and it strips away the protective coating. Having said that, the plaintiff should have checked as soon as he got the keys back.

This is why i wash my car in the driveway or use a manual self serve hose at the local carwash (the one where you feed quarters into a safe and walk around the car yourself). I don't let ANYONE wash my car except me. That way I make sure NOONE accidentally breaks anything

Cases like this are extremely difficult to prove once you leave the car wash. I can probably see calling the car wash the day after the wash to report damage but 5 days later?? Naaa would never work
the issue is the damage on those screens are difficult to see when they are lit or when there isn't any external light shining on it while the screen is off. the best advice is to tell detailers to not touch your screens and put it in writing. i clean mine without any product using a detailing brush.

I never go to car washes because they definitely do damage countless cars and never take responsibility for it. My husband washes our cars by hand only. He waited too long. He should have gone with his gut instincts and never allowed them to wash any part of his car....next time go with your gut.
I used to repair screens , and that line is not from a scratch. It’s a bad connection on the side of the screen which is usually held in place by some type of tape. What causes the damage is usually bad manufacturing , or sometimes perhaps pressure, or releasing pressure on an edge. Regardless, it would have gone bad anyways , if he never went to the car wash. It’s a newer car , and should be under warranty . It remains to be seen if this would be a common issue for this model car. If there is a manufacturing defect, it would be a common problem on many same model vehicles .

Think it through... Having a bright navigation screen will obviously not show a scratch as easily as when the screen is off/less bright (comparatively) in the day, when the sunlight can show what's on the surface of the screen.

Like if you would have went in that teens only area then that’s a policy but the police would have enforced that policy the whole policy thing needs to be looked into very deep bc the courts will use the policy in a court case and use it to prosecute people it’s not necessarily that a policy is law but then they put the law and the breaking the policy together and say that there is enough evidence to convict of something because the policy put someone on notice , so the policy being broken and someone thing else combined will give them sufficient evidence to convict.
