  • Stucco acrylics applied. Acrylic stucco versus traditional.
    Acrylic plastering for flexibility.

    Hello all, the primer was already rolled on, which is the same color as the base coat and the color finish we’re applying. So this application of stucco is sort of tough to see.
    But you can understand by watching closely and listening to the words spoken.
    FYI, synthetic and/or acrylic stucco is the same product.
    Then why the different terminology, No clue. I’m a plastering contractor, not an English major.
    Want to see what the finished stucco acrylic looks like? • Stucco acrylic vs. tra...
    My personal favorite acrylic is Stuc-O-Flex or Stuc-O-Flex Elastomeric Acrylic Finish. Bar none. However, we apply whatever is provided by homeowners.
    Once again, saying acrylic stucco or synthetic stucco is the same thing.
    Also, note for this fine finish here in the USA, most plastering companies, like yours truly, prefer to bring out the sand with a stucco sponge float rather than how it’s done in the UK with a hard plastic float.
    • Stucco acrylic vs. tra... Three different sand grits in acrylic stucco. youtu.be/283Dc... Stuc-O-Flex, duck pond, stucco-flex.

    I just put on the Senergy Acrylic and it is REALLY runny so it did NOT go on like yours did. I wouldn't roll on well or trowel on well. This looks like an easier product to apply.

      We’re spreading Dry-Vit, one of the best Acrylics sold also, BMI, Carson’s and Stucco-Flex are the go to acrylics. The product you applied ranks down with 4 others, all sold by the same company. I wouldn’t spread any of them for reasons I won’t mention here. As this is a rated G channel 😉💃

    Here in Utah we float that with a plastic float like the white one sometimes you use but the one we use is like a light tan color one. We have 2 guys on each level there is a spreader and a floater. We average about 25-30 buckets today.

    Plastering is one of the earliest of crafts. Plasterwork was utilized in building and construction more than 4,000 years ago. Egyptian pharaohs plastered surfaces in their palaces and within their ancient pyramids, which may still be seen to this day.

    Hi Kirk, I recently coated a 12 metre high steel framed blueboard cladd lift shaft with this stuff using rope access equipment and no scaffolding.
    It was near 35 degree celcius on the sunny side of shaft most days and i found it extremely difficult to avoid getting dry joints due to the exposure to direct sun and heat on surface of cladding. I could only apply until about 10am in the morning on the sunny side of shaft.
    Looking back i wish i had used a polymer modified cement render such as the Australian manufactured Rokcote instead of an acrylic.
    I enjoyed your video and learned something from it. The way you sponged using the edges of the sponge instead of flat face made all the difference.
    Thanks

    A lot easier than how we do it in Western Australia. You guys seem to have Better systems over there. I'd never heard of stucco before. A lot of our stuff is yellow sand, cement and lime. And the acrylic stuff is tedious. You have to be right on top of it rubbing small circles with a plastic float. Love your work mate thanks for the videos.

      I don't like to use hard plastic floats as it takes to much time and I feel the wrong tool for bringing out the aggregate weather is acrylic or cementitious stucco finish.

      what? no its not. I do render in Australia, Stucco is way too much material wastage and time preping...
      Doing acrylic base coat and texture is easy. spining the plastic trowel is easier than sponging. Thats why acrylics finish exist, thinner/quicker/colourfast/flexiable/membrane like surface... sponging could actully break that surface so i would not recommend it.

      I'm an EIFS guy from Ohio. When we do finish on stucco, we use sponge float. It works better on stucco. But always hard plastic on an EIFS wall. Or if its smooth finish, then a steel trowel like you said.

      @StuccoPlastering  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Howdy Country dude, been there, when I worked with the union as a plasterer, the pump man would spray the the finish coat on with the tommy gun then us plasterers would just sponge float finish coat, I didn't like the results (too many float lines) but did what I was told or was arce out, now years later with my own company I chooses this method in this video.

    I am a Wall and Floor tiler solid plasterer, I build pools for a living and have just retired my render business of 15 years. I have used pool trowels for there correct use which is mainly for pebble and marble interiors, a pool trowel is supposed to flex to give the user less grief when troweling a pool interior into coves etc. I have watched your videos for awhile now and don’t understand why you use a pool trowel, your walls would not be flat because of the flex of the trowel??? What’s the answer kirk?

      Good morning Fitness Dude. The owner wanted a fine sand finish. It's closer to perfect a fine sand finish with a sponge float once one has spent the time necessary to know how to use one.
      Keep in mind, when I was an apprentice, I floated behind two and sometimes three plasterers for years. Hence, I can use a sponge float very well.
      The hard plastic floats waste way too much time, and feathering in joints for one person can be done, but chasing joints where two or three plasterers are working, and I'm the only float man, A sponge float, is the right call.

    Lots of great info here. Recently applied an acrylic fine finish over a base/mesh coat. After a heavy rain, some water got behind a few areas on the home and it bubbled up. Adhesion between the acrylic coat and base coat seems poor overall, and can be scraped off even in the dry areas with a drywall knife. Any ideas? Does the entire acrylic coat need to be scraped off and redone? Base coat seems dry, smooth, and is new/in good shape. The walls were primed, 2+ coats. Thanks in advance

    • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This only happens when the base coat is dusty, or dry. Thus the chemical bond was compromised. Or it could have been a hot day and created hot walls, and as soon as the finish was applied the walls sucked the moister out immediately, in that case, I usually mist the hot walls with a water hose no matter how many coats of the primer was applied. At this point you can pressure wash, any loose finish should and will come off, and then you will need to repeat the finish, Sorry.

    • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Greetings Joshua, on this hose none were required; however, I did place two above the rear sling glass door as they were heavy doors that can hairline as a result of the doors hitting the encasements
      Your engineer was referring to every 10 by 10-foot opening, "without a window or door," should have an expansion joint.
      This wall had windows and door; hence no expansions were needed.
      As a rule expansion joints are only for commercial or jobs that do specify in the prints, expansion joints called for.

    Hey kirk I have a question, it does not pertain to this video, but it would be nice if you could help a fella out, if possible. My parents have an old house built in 1957. There was just a big rain storm and the concrete basement flooded, not the first time. It seems the footings and walls where poured before the ground was. There was so much water pressure, water came in between the small gaps in them. What kind of caulking would you recommend to seal that? Im a huge fan of you and would love to hear your opinion.

    • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Mate, caulking won't solve this common problem, sorry.
      Installing a french drain system would help big time, but even this may not stop the rain from entering the foundation.
      It really depends on the foundation, I have seen many that were just rocks and a bit of cement (which allows water to enter easily) while other were built to last and would not allow water to enter even without a french drain system or any waterproof membrane over the foundation which also acts as an additional moisture barrior.

      Good morning Rodriguez, your dad is correct, It's one of the most challenging tasks in the Plastering industry.
      That is to wet or hose down a wall prior to the application of a cementitious or acrylic color finish.
      All walls absorb differently, so even if you are an expert, you can still get beat up by water absorption, some sheds or sucks up the water differently as some guy hard rubber hard or not at all.
      Now factor in the temperature of a wall was when you arrived, where you start from as the sun will heat walls differently, also, different guys doing the floating, the list goes on and on.

My question is seeing as it's peeling and cracked already would it be in my best interest to prep it properly and go with acrylic. Good afternoon my friend, of course, we applied a primer, it is the same color as the finish coat.
      All acrylic's come with their own engineered primers for better adhesion and sometimes I use a primer to kill too much suction.

      no idea,
      I guess when you're 20 and working at an hourly wage and a fella offers you in cash a bit more than you make working for the man, with the catch that you will be working in a dangerous and hostile ghetto area, you jump on the opportunity, especially when the place in question appears to be like disneyland compared to where you grew up which was a true ghetto.

      Yeh, he probably should be using the plastic trowel for the Acrylic, gets a much better finish.
      In Australia no one uses stucco. (barely anyone, some solid plaster on high end georgian style homes etc.. ) its all acrylic base coats and textures. Alot thinnner than stucco, less material, longer lasting and colour fast, flexiablish.. depending on substrate. But yeh... if you spill wash it up ASAP.

      This is how I know how much material I need, but not for bidding purposes,
      Sorry, can't give you more detail than that. Access, height, simplicity, or complications on waterproofing plays the biggest part in my bidding.

    to me this fine finish is the easiest. no primer needed and we use a plastic slick float to achieve the Sandy fine finish with no cold joints. sorry to dis your product but that cold joint and not having the same texture u apply another coat and thats more labor plus more wasted material.

    • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Evening Joker dude, no worries,
      FYI, we did not have a scaffold joint as we primed the wall with the acrylic primer recommended for dry-vit, this is why the color was so close and not the true portland based cement plaster color, we used the same color for primer and finish coat, helps in the long run to allow time if needed, it was!
      However If I had not applied a primer I would have had that cold joint you're referring to so my friend I see you're on the ball and know your plastering,
