    I know this is old but I really appreciate you speaking on the lack of diversity :) I think skull panda has some really cool designs but It's a great example of the colorism and appropriation working simultaneously in China. I hope blind boxes become more popular in the western world so we can start to see a shift in the designs being made. Or maybe this is my calling card to start designing my own🤔 Anyways great video!!!!

      Couldn't agree more! I think it's getting more and more popular in the Western World and hopefully that means not only more diversity in the figures but more diversity in the designers themselves. That's so cool you want to design figures! I'm so not artistic, I could never 😆

    not really sure if this comment will reach you, but I’ll try my luck anyway. I just wanted to ask if you think buying individual blind boxes is better or buying full cases is better. I know that full cases are probably less expensive in terms of getting the whole series, but I’m scared it might be less exciting than buying singular blind boxes one at a time. your collector opinion would be very appreciated!!

    • @ElowynLuna
      @ElowynLuna  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I myself am still newer to collecting so my opinion on this changes. I absolutely love getting individual blind boxes for series where I like the majority of the series but don't think I need the full series. And if they are in sale, maybe I'll throw caution to the wind and buy a series where I only like a few. Cos I do find it exciting to try my luck and when I know there is no bad options or maybe only 1-2 I'm not a fan - it feels great. But if there only a few you like 1-3 outta 12 let's say, I would recommend looking in your local area for people who trade or sell open boxes so you can just buy the ones you like with no surprise but no sadness (I do get sad when my luck is against me lol and I find getting figures I love exciting still even if no surprise). And if you like every one of the series, or majority of them - a full case is the best option because as you said cheaper per box - plus maybe you can trade/sell any you don't like - and buy more blinds of another series BUT only do that if you can afford it. And keep on mind if you can't afford right now most series are around a long time, 1 year+ sometimes so never feel fomo. I find it less exciting to open a full case, you do have the hope of a secret edition but that does fade away the more you don't get secrets 😆 but maybe you'd have better luck then me 😉 But I buy full cases most so I'm happy in the end when I display a whole series that I like all together. To be honest if you love the secret, I think your chance aren't any better when you get a full case - I think people might disagree but when people share they got a secret I find it's often from a blind box and not a full case. Ultimately I'd say it different for everyone, so it might take time to see what you prefer!!

    I think you would’ve liked the selection I got even though I didn’t like it. I love cats but I don’t like the color yellow so I was a bit disappointed that was the cat. I got the bodyguard and it was OK but I really wanted the other one with purple hair. I liked the white and lavender. I think that might be one of my favorites, along with the traveler I love that neon green and black combo. The other one I got was the scroll deliverer and I absolutely hated that one. The hair just reminded me of Cheetos and I couldn’t not see it, so I ended up painting the hair hot pink and I think it looks so much better that way.

    • @shusukepanda

      Omg Cheetos lol I didn't think of them like that, but I agree that style and color combo just isn't for me. If it had been brown or black hair, or even green/blue/purple maybe it wouldn't have bothered me as much.

    • @ElowynLuna
      @ElowynLuna  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Laura, I want to see this new hair colour! That's so cool you repainted it. I was just watching a TH-cam video of someone repainting a figure and was fascinated - I could never 😆
      And its too bad you didn't get the ones you were hoping for. I normally don't like yellow either but the cat vibes and that collar just spoke to me.

    • @donnahanna10565
      @donnahanna10565 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sorry I laughed but it's so sad that you don't understand that people are more than the color of their skin, people are more than their culture. And I don't think you're aware of where cornrows came from. They originally came from Egypt but even though it is an African continent Egyptians are their own people. Over 1,000 years ago Native Americans, Celtic (Irish), and the Greeks wore cornrows. This woke generation this PC culture is separating people by hairstyles that is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. I never even thought about different hairstyles and I have friends of every shape race both female and male. And they were just my friends. So if you do feel like you have to be so racially appropriate you should really study before you speak because the Irish are pretty light skin people and they were cornrows once again over a thousand years ago. Also I have a couple of friends that were born and raised in Egypt and they're both fairly light-skinned. Once again people are more than the color of their skin or their culture. Learn to embrace before you start segregating people. They fought through the sixties to stop that😢 I don't mean any disrespect. I'm truly trying to just get you to think about it but to each his own. But I'm going to tell you you tell this to the wrong black woman and she'll tell you that she doesn't need you protecting her. It's really quite insulting.❤

    • @fanofmanylegends9709
      @fanofmanylegends9709 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @ramonesgirl1 With all due respect, this isn't relevant to the comment at all. These dolls are all Chinese. You can think of them as anything you like, but normally, these styles are from black/African communities and most of the dolls don't fit that description due to the lack of diverse skin colors in chinese made toys. To see the style on a nearly white doll may be appropriation to some, considering the colorism at play, yet the audacity to use a hairstyle thats so ingrained in another culture that they constantly leave out. And that's okay. People can have different opinions. Take your comment and send it to numerous black women. I bet you some will tell you that they don't want others speaking for them no matter the stance. You speak for no one but yourself. And the fact that you immediately assume that the commenter may not even be black themselves speaks of your own ignorance. Just because something isn't a problem for you doesn't mean other black people won't find faults with it (that's if you're even black. If not, then you have no right to speak on this situation. And that would be truly insulting. Ever hear of the phrase "black people are never alone"?)
      Also, the Celtics did *not* wear cornrows. Their hair would fall out of their heads if they did. They wore different braids, and you need to stop spreading misinformation to try and make a point. Braids themselves are diverse and are present in multiple cultures despite race. Egyptians are mainly of african descent, and there's no but in that. It is a fact. So yes, cornrows come from african, specifically egyptian, as the earliest note of it, descent. You do realize that Africans can be lightskined as well, correct? That doesn't mean they aren't african. Types of braids are unique to cultures, which makes certain things appropriated when not educated or treated with respect. Why don't you let your friends speak for themselves rather than try to tell black people how they should feel on an issue that is very real and sadly, ignored due to misinformed people like you. Your mention of having black friends is disturbingly similar to when a racist person claims they have black family members. That has nothing to do with you as you aren't black. And their words aren't something every black person should live by, so do stay in your lane.
      Sincerely- a person of both Asian and African descent.

    My least favorite in this set is Scroll Delivery, because I don't like the hairstyle in combination with the orange color. And my favorites are the Meditator and the Puppet Singer.
    Naughty Bodyguard's Chinese name is actually "Violent bodyguard", I thought it was interesting they chose a different translation.
    Also about the diversity aspect--I hope they keep it up, the dark-skinned designs are almost always among the least popular ones in China because of colorism (beauty standards only considering pale skin pretty). Same for Dimoo too :(

    "And I don't necessarily know if the skin colour matches the protective style" lol a hairstyle can be worn by anyone of any race. Let's not restrict and gate keep hairstyles based on skin colour. You wouldn't say the same thing if a black person or Popmart straightens their hair or wears a hairstyle that's not culturally theirs. And I'm saying this as a black person.

    I first want to tell you that your videos are so entertaining. I love how soft-spoken you are and how you really love your figurines. But then I heard you mention protected hairstyle. Did you know that over a thousand years ago Native Americans, Celtic cornrows(Irish),Greeks all wore cornrows. It's generally believed that it started in Egypt with the men because of the Heat. I have Egyptian friends I have two of them they have light skin but they were born in and grew up in Egypt. People are more than the color of their skin I think your generation is forgetting that fact. Yes Egypt is in the continent of Africa but Egyptians are their own people. Don't erase them just because you're try so hard to be culturally PC. We Are All One People you need to learn about other people's cultures enjoy them. Doing anything disrespectfully of course is wrong but cornrows do not belong to anybody. It's great that you are standing up and trying to be respectful but being uneducated is not respectful. If you wear cornrows as a costume yes it's disrespectful. I'm Native American I don't care if people dress as Indians for Halloween if they did anything sacred then yes I would have an issue with it. You sound like a very smart girl even though you said one of the figurines was wearing a barrette on her head it was a beret. Celebrate and learn about other cultures if you're going to speak on behalf of them. I on the other hand have enough respect for other cultures to let them speak for themselves. African-Americans and people of color don't need little white teenagers speaking up for them. Most of my friends that are black feel insulted like they feel you're trying to say they need help they can't do it on their own. I grew up in LA we have many kinds of people and they're all awesome.❤ sharing cultures is a beautiful thing as long as it's done with respect. Good luck with your generation it's going to be a bumpy ride.
