The museum is not a formal place, but it is a space where you can enjoy lighting up and art works, and it has become a popular spot mainly among the younger generation.
The huge space of the underground mining site is a masterpiece
A museum where you can learn about the history of Oya stone mining. In the exhibition hall, we display materials such as tools, mining methods, and changes in transportation from the mid-Edo period, when mining began in earnest, to around 1959.
The highlight of this museum is the remains of an underground mining site.
It is a large underground space of 20,000 square meters, 30 meters deep, and 60 meters underground at the deepest point, and the average temperature inside the mine is usually around 8 degrees Celsius. About 10 million stones were cut out, and it feels like a huge underground structure. In addition, it is often used as a venue for concerts, plays, shows, and Noh theater.
