My Niccolo and I were both getting hives for a couple of months. We were both on Benadryl for 10 weeks before I finally narrowed it down to a mold in an area of the park where the sprinkler heads were broken and it was swampy. Rather than keep him inside anymore I avoided that spot, gave him a good bath, washed and disinfected sheets and furnishings, and then gave him a generous spray with Marc Antony coconut/Shea spray ($4 on Amazon), and wiped his feet and face before coming in if he got in a swampy patch. Both of us have been hive free ever since. Also, Honest Kitchen has been the best dog food I have had so far. Made in a human grade food kitchen... kinda pricey, but simple and natural ingredients that avoid bone meals. Kobe is the cutest! Hope you guys are both doing well. Thank you for sharing.
Get better Kobe! Dad is looking after you buddy. We want to see you back in good health. You are the most handsome vizsla on You Tube. I wish I could give him a cuddle. He's a stunning pup!
I love watching your videos and hope you can find a solution for Kobe soon. I found your channel because I have been thinking about getting a Viszla. I had a beautiful English Setter (she lived to 13) that had very bad food allergies, it took a lot of trial and error to find a food she could eat without the allergies. It’s unfortunate but most pet food is made up of the left overs of leftovers, really low quality ingredients. Science Diet is one of the better ones but the hypoallergenic versions are prescription only and can only be bought through a vet which makes them extremely expensive. I spent years on that food with my setter before I tried some alternatives. The one we found that wasn’t perfect but was pretty good for her allergies was “Taste of the Wild”. I’m not sure if it is available in your area. One of the challenges with hypoallergenic pet foods is that a lot of the nutrients get cooked out in the process of removing the allergens. I’ve also seen a big push toward raw/real meat diets that get good reviews, although I am uncomfortable with feeding raw meats so I would fry it up. It is likely cost prohibitive as well. I look forward to seeing your update and hope Koby is feeling better.
That is great information. They do have that food available where I live. I will definitely look into it. Good luck on getting your future Vizsla. They have become so popular that it is hard to find a good breeder with liters.. Appreciate your support.
Do you have an update with how Kobe’s hives are now? My vizsla puppy (4 months now) developed them a month ago, and I’ve noticed they’ve increased in number. They don’t bother him at all, never licks or itches but I can’t help but think something is wrong. Sometimes they worsen after being outside. They used to go away especially after going to bed and waking up the next day but now they are just there all the time. Tried Benadryl and Zyrtec like vet told me to and it did nothing. Considering switching his food from Acana red meat grains dog food recipe to taste of the wild sierra mountain grain-free lamb dog food recipe. Your sweet kobe is amazing and our vizsla pup watches him on the TV!
Hello. For Kobe it went away on its own. We tried so many things when he got it, like changing the food, antibiotics but nothing seem to work. The shampoo you use could have it as well. Try using most organic stuff as possible. They just have real delicate skin in my opinion. For Kobe it went away on its own. Sometimes he still gets little bumps here and there but not as bad. And it doesn't bother him no itching or nothing like that. We have not been able to figure out what triggers it. I see so many Vizslas suffer from same problem and no one can really say what triggers it. Definitely consider grain free food. The healthier the better. Good luck with your dog, and thank you for the support. Last thing I use organic coconut oil on his food sometimes as well. Read up on how good is coconut oil for dogs could help as well. Thanks for the support
What are you feeding him? I switched from Taste of the Wild (which was causing problems) to Royal Canin Digestive Care and that helped my dog. Make sure you don't give your dog ANY people food. Viszlas and weimaraners are known for having food allergy problems. It could also be tall grass.
Definitely never give him people food. I was feeding him blue bafalo and recently switched to purina pro plan. Im hoping it's not the food because he has done great eating the food. Not picky at all.
Are they hives or a superficial skin infection (they can look similar)? Usually infection has scaly crusty skin where it is raised up. I have never heard of a vet prescribing an antibiotic for just hives. D/D is a decent food for dogs that have food allergies but food allergies are not common. 9/10 vets I know would recommend Proplan over Blue Buffalo.
I forget thw name foe the vondition the vet saids. Its a weird name hypo something. And Yes im hoping its not the food. I thought blue bafalo was one of the best out there it would be a shame if that food causes kobe this.
Did his hives get better? My vizsla seems to have similar hives plus he is also getting these little bald spots..I’ve scheduled an appt at the vet but came on TH-cam to see if anyone had similar issues with their vizsla …
Yeh its went away on its own. It comes back here and there. Changing the food and the antibiotics the vet gave Kobe didn't work. I think it's the sand in my back yard. When it comes back it doesn't bother him at all and no ball spots or anything like that. Hope you find solution for your dog.
Wow 14 how amazing is that. Before I got Kobe I thought about that as well. I considered everything before deciding on the blue bafalo. But right now I'm open for options again.
Thank you. After over two weeks of the food diet and antibiotics seems like its not a food cause it still comes. I. Leaning tours him being allergic to mosquito bites from more research I did on it.
Kobe The Vizsla it’s what the vet gave you hills science diet ... I buy lamb and rice though.. hunting dogs have sensitive stomachs and can suffer from bloat so it’s best to give them dry food and smaller meals like 3x a day.. I usually give them some cooked food to like sweet potato and pumpkin purée chicken or ground turkey or beef it helps the skin and coat also.. they love fruit and Greek yogurt!!! Not everyday but I give them something with vitamins and every other day.. also I’m not a vet or professional dog breeder but I have always owned hunting dogs so I’m just giving you advice of experiences I’ve had....
@@axelweimaranersheavizslali6272 lol didn't even realize hills was the brand. ok yes just read some great things about this food. So far kobe has done well with it since the vet gave us this food. and the hives are almost gone.
He’s very calm for a Vizsla.
He is. He acts like an adult dog.
Hope kobe gets better. Wish him well.
Thank you.
Get well, Kobe!
Greatly appreciate it.
Kobe is looking beautiful
Thank you so much.
hives or not, kobe is a beautiful dog, and now that he's older his expressions are priceless
Appreciate it. Thanks for the support

@@kobethevizsla157 great to hear the little man is on the mend.👍
Thank you 🙏🏽
We found that our Vizsla got his hives from a weed called morning Jew that grew along the creek near the inlaws
That's interesting to know. From what I've seen in the pass years Vizslas have very delicate skin. Mine hasn't had a breakout in a while.
Poor Kobe. He’s in my prayers. I’m switching from Purina my Vizsla was eating it but I like N&D.
Greatly appreciate it 🙏🏽. Im going to see how he does with the medicated food and go from there

superficial pyoderma is the name of the most common kind of skin infection in dogs but that is very different from urticaria (hives).
Got ya
Get well soon little pup. Hows he doing with the antibiotics now?
Its working a little bit. They gave it to him for 20 days waiting to see if they disappear
Grizzly natural Salmon oil - squirt in each meal
I hear coconut oil is good as well.

So what dog food did you end up going with?
Stayed with the blue bafalo it was the one he liked the most as well.
Have you considered the raw food diet. My dog a Jack Russell is now 14
Wow 14 how amazing is that. Before I got Kobe I thought about that as well. I considered everything before deciding on the blue bafalo. But right now I'm open for options again.
Our vizsla had these and we changed the food to a hypo allergenic food mainly salmon and potato with green lipped muscle and it seemed to work.
Thank you. After over two weeks of the food diet and antibiotics seems like its not a food cause it still comes. I. Leaning tours him being allergic to mosquito bites from more research I did on it.
which brand did you guys go with?
change your laundry detergent...or if you use something like Downy stop using it...
We did already thanks 👌🏼
Did he get a recent shot, or change where you walk him. Sometimes lawn treatments can cause it. Or if in the woods insect bites
No we been going to the same places. I actually stopped taking him out for about to weeks to see if that helped. And his last shots were months ago.
Science diet is the best dog food for hunting breeds specifically lamb and rice..it’s the best for there digestive system
Never heard of that brand. Thank you I will look into it for sure.
