I find it crazy that they won't admit to recommending ad friendly content. We've all seen the spikes when a video goes from no ads to ads and the dips when the opposite happens. If small channels can't advertise, it will take them way longer to reach 1K.
It's the subscription system that is killing channels. No one gets alerts when I post a new video anymore. I went from 30,000 or so views in the first day on a new video, down to about 1,000 views a day.

I just want to say to the smaller channels out there... don't quit! It was only 2 months ago I was at 1k subs, and now I am at 63k. Small channels can still make it! It may be extremely tough, but it has always been tough. For sure, the toughest part is staying motivated. I posted daily uploads for over 8 months (they are now unlisted) until I gained traction, and trust me, it made me extremely demotivated. I promise, if you have entertaining content that the TH-cam audience will enjoy, KEEP POSTING IT! The same exact discussion was going on when i started last April: "Is it even worth it to start a youtube anymore?" YES IT IS! Now obviously not everyone will make it where they want, but that chance at finally reaching a bigger audience will always be there, and the chance makes TH-cam worth it.
They could have just banned the Paul Brothers really. That frees up money for at least a few small channels. There are some TH-camrs who work really hard to create good content and this new system cripples them.
Yes, but the problem is when a channel can’t get discovered. Nobody starts a channel in search of money, (so long as they have a passion and drive to create) But there comes a time when you need money to keep producing quality content, but you can’t make money without being discovered. Then you get stuck in a rising scale of higher quality content without the money to supplement it, and you still aren’t getting discovered.

I've said this before, but being a youtuber is a creative career similar to being an actor or painter. You need to be creative and a self motivator. Pursing a creative career takes a long time to make a living from and the competition is always high. If you're interested in it and can handle a side job or other sources of income until you can make your interest into a career, then that's that.That's how the lifestyle's been for creative career pursuers unless you get the rare chance that you're successful from the start. I always encourage people into pursuing creative interests if they want to make their hobby into a career. So I support you all who want to do this. It may take longer to get where you want to be, but if it's still an interest and goal for you, then heck yeah, go for it.

I don't think this has anything to do with the Pauls. TH-cam has been trying to clamp down on content thieves, and unsavoury content for a long time, and I firmly believe it's to do with all that. I think something like this change to the Partnership Program isn't planned overnight, and the issues with the Pauls are just down to poor timing.

The answer to this issue has always been quite and simple: Do TH-cam videos if you are doing out of love and passion for making videos, not for the money. Look at the most successful TH-camrs out there, I mean, LOOK AT FELIX, every year he has come out and said that he has never done this for the money, but rather the fact that it is something he enjoys and loves doing, that's what makes a TH-camr successful, love for what they are doing. Don't treat TH-cam as a job, because it was never meant to be one.
When I got the email I thought, yeah... *BUT CAN YOU DO THISSSS* and I leaned back in my recliner. Pretty sad though, I was only $10 away from getting my first payment from youtube, but oh well, gonna keep making videos though cause they can't stop me there!

2018 Starting out with a Bang. My channel is really small even though it's just above the 1K mark. The only thing that stops this partnership is the requirement for watch time. I understand why TH-cam would do such a thing, but also in the end the real reason TH-cam is here is to Broadcast yourself, and there never was money to be made when this website first started. It was all based upon the love and passion of creating and putting yourself out there. If you are committed, you'll reach your goals eventually. But all in all, keep creating guys! Make content you love that makes others happy :D
That's true but I was even thinking of starting up a channel with uploads between let's say 3 months to even a year apart because I don't want to pull content out of my ass and I wanna create something almost to the point where I can deem it perfect and I have some ideas but how in the world am I ever gonna get noticed or get the watchtime to actually be able to partner with youtube in order to have more well funded videos for props and services and all that kind of stuff
That is a very tough idea, but in the end you just gotta put some stuff out there. I know it's gonna sound corny, but you miss 100% of the shots you don't take. So in the end, try. That's all you gotta do is try and put yourself out there. If you upload everyday of just once every 3 months, at least your trying. Build an audience and people who care, then everything will fall in place from there :D

It most definitely takes time my friend! You will get better over time and develop your own style. Keep chipping away at it like it's a giant rock until you get that statue that you have always wanted. Same thing with your quality, it will develop over time. I mean heck! I'm still learning, but i'm also trying my best. Keep doing what makes you happy and put some videos out there man! If you believe in yourself you can do anything you want! :D

I’ve been doing TH-cam for 5+ years and I’ve enjoyed it so much, I try to care little about viewing / subscriber figures cause I’m grateful for what I do get, though I feel like if I’ve been doing it for 5 years and there’s more than likely people like me who try so hard and they get little recognition and it’s one of many reasons what turns people off from TH-cam especially with the competition. It’s important to know that frustration comes from trying to be noticed. I’ve continued to keep going despite the odds of just gaining a little more recognition and just enjoy what I do have. Because I enjoy what I do but I would like more people coming to the channel because I love the interaction it’s literally one of my favourite parts about TH-cam! Your dream goals are impossible if you don’t try, and admit-tingly small if you do try, but the chance is still there and you increase the likelihood of something from it the more you put in, the more you get out Hope this inspires someone 🤗
Animators never had a good time on this website. Ever since TH-cam promoted Watch time. This is really sad tbh. Because they work really hard on their content, yet they aren't/won't be getting paid. Especially after the new Partnership program.

I feel like you missed the bigger picture here, the view count limit was a good thing, the subscriber limit was also reasonable but the watchtime limit is the issue as it favours the daily vloggers over the animations, the short films, the creative and interesting content that might not be as sustainable as In-real-life streamers. Animated content that earns only $200 can now fund voice actors and software. A filmmaker could fund a camera or lighting equipment. It's not just about people wanting to be the next Jake Paul, it's people who are content being small creators if it means they can just create, those are the main group being punished. Equally it's not a maximum of $4 we're seeing people lose. The watch-count is costing people a lot more. I've seen animation channels who will no longer get $500, that's a lot of money to a small creator to just disappear. The original advertisement controversy was reported on in March 2017, the view count limitation was added in April 2017. Since then every controversy from Elsagate to the Paulers was caused by big channels who have already gained the system. I've yet to see evidence that the changes made in April weren't good enough. This is just a broad brush and a bad practice that simply kills specific content with longer production times in favour of the lower denominators.
Dr Matt Phillips I agree slightly, a lot of smaller channels did make a lot more than $4. I don't feel that TH-cam should make small TH-camrs be collateral damage. TH-cam is supposed to be so where anyone can make videos and make money, now that's not so true. Hypocritical and slightly corrupt.
Well there is Patreon, but the issue is that TH-cam is not a profitable business. No one wants to start a company that would only cut non existent profits in half.

I'm sure 90% of viewers don't know the struggle from back in the days. I remember my old channel finally got partnered after making videos for a whole year. I was super proud that I got partnered with Machinima but honestly, they were just fucking me and taking most of my ad revenue xd

I had no clue how and what a network was, still don't really know, but I completely missed it and couldn't agree to their offer anyway. I heard that they were well-known for offering beginning youtubers a deal, but that they really f over the creator. Lol, I guess I was lucky with not responding to them in time xD
I live in Sweden and have worked very very hard to do nice videos of a lot of different things going on in this beautiful country. My goal then I started the channel one year ago was not to earn fast money from ads, but show people what is going on in southern Sweden, that many people miss. As a spin-off I hoped to get same paid work from one or another viewer that had the need for a videomaker by them selfes or at their work, and tip their boss. It's a slow process, but I do have some paid jobs now and then, and I do it as a part time job. Mostly of my videos isn't depending on understanding Swedish. I only have 64 subs, and 59 000 views that is a disappointment, but I do what I wants to do and I'm pleased with that. The new policy was a slam in the face then I got the message from TH-cam, but PewDiePie explanied it better than TH-cam ever would. But, I don't think it's the right way to go. Small creaters need some carrots...
I'm a small channel but I have to agree with him on it, it is going to suck trying to get 1,000 subs and it is hard to keep staying motivated sometimes but in the end it's going to all be worth it, just keep going and give it time. Love your subs and the community you're building and it'll end up being an amazing achievement in your life

It really does feel like the algorithm is working against smaller and newer channels, even though many creators are actually passionate about their subject. There are good and bad sides to this new "youtube update" : Good being: they are removing channels that only thrive on stealing other creators content. Bad being: they are striking down on truly passionate creators, and they might even demotivate people.
True! the only thing I see on TH-cam is Jimmy Fallon, Ellen and some music videos that I didn't know if. It is as if TH-cam doesn't want me to discover the smaller channels.
I don't earn a single buck from TH-cam, being a small creator by old and new standards, but MAN, making the videos is probably one of the most fun experiences I ever had. I feel sorry for people who really tried to make it their source of income (so that they can devote more time to it), but I also hope they persevere and stick to making content.
I couldn’t agree more pewds . I feel bad for smaller channels , but i’ve been uploading for 6 years straight daily , because I enjoy it . Didn’t make any money for probably the first 2 or 3 years . But now i’m at the point where i’m safe to stay a partner . And seeing smaller channels with like 4 videos and no time put into it , complaining about like what you said , 4 dollars , seems very sad to me . We should make videos because we love it & yeah , it should just motivate you that much more to reach that goal , not complain and blame youtube for you not putting in the time and effort . I’ve said this and got a few people mad at me over it , but i hate when people just think the world owes them everything and that they don’t need to work for what they want. So my advice to small channels is to keeeeeep a steady flow and keep doing what you enjoy , don’t worry about the money , just have fun with it & eventually the money will come . ❤️

It may be extremely tough, but it has always been tough. For sure, the toughest part is staying motivated. I posted daily uploads for over 8 months (they are now unlisted) until I gained traction, and trust me, it made me extremely demotivated. I promise, if you have entertaining content that the TH-cam audience will enjoy, KEEP POSTING IT! The same exact discussion was going on when i started last April: "Is it even worth it to start a youtube anymore?" YES IT IS! Now obviously not everyone will make it where they want, but that chance at finally reaching a bigger audience will always be there, and the chance makes TH-cam worth it.

Yes, but the problem is when a channel can’t get discovered. Nobody starts a channel in search of money, (so long as they have a passion and drive to create) But there comes a time when you need money to keep producing quality content, but you can’t make money without being discovered. Then you get stuck in a rising scale of higher quality content without the money to supplement it, and you still aren’t getting discovered.

I've said this before, but being a youtuber is a creative career similar to being an actor or painter. You need to be creative and a self motivator. Pursing a creative career takes a long time to make a living from and the competition is always high. If you're interested in it and can handle a side job or other sources of income until you can make your interest into a career, then that's that.That's how the lifestyle's been for creative career pursuers unless you get the rare chance that you're successful from the start.
I always encourage people into pursuing creative interests if they want to make their hobby into a career. So I support you all who want to do this. It may take longer to get where you want to be, but if it's still an interest and goal for you, then heck yeah, go for it.

The answer to this issue has always been quite and simple: Do TH-cam videos if you are doing out of love and passion for making videos, not for the money. Look at the most successful TH-camrs out there, I mean, LOOK AT FELIX, every year he has come out and said that he has never done this for the money, but rather the fact that it is something he enjoys and loves doing, that's what makes a TH-camr successful, love for what they are doing.

2018 Starting out with a Bang. My channel is really small even though it's just above the 1K mark. The only thing that stops this partnership is the requirement for watch time. I understand why TH-cam would do such a thing, but also in the end the real reason TH-cam is here is to Broadcast yourself, and there never was money to be made when this website first started. It was all based upon the love and passion of creating and putting yourself out there. If you are committed, you'll reach your goals eventually. But all in all, keep creating guys! Make content you love that makes others happy :D
That's true but I was even thinking of starting up a channel with uploads between let's say 3 months to even a year apart because I don't want to pull content out of my ass and I wanna create something almost to the point where I can deem it perfect and I have some ideas but how in the world am I ever gonna get noticed or get the watchtime to actually be able to partner with youtube in order to have more well funded videos for props and services and all that kind of stuff
That is a very tough idea, but in the end you just gotta put some stuff out there. I know it's gonna sound corny, but you miss 100% of the shots you don't take. So in the end, try. That's all you gotta do is try and put yourself out there. If you upload everyday of just once every 3 months, at least your trying. Build an audience and people who care, then everything will fall in place from there :D

I’ve been doing TH-cam for 5+ years and I’ve enjoyed it so much, I try to care little about viewing / subscriber figures cause I’m grateful for what I do get, though I feel like if I’ve been doing it for 5 years and there’s more than likely people like me who try so hard and they get little recognition and it’s one of many reasons what turns people off from TH-cam especially with the competition. It’s important to know that frustration comes from trying to be noticed.
I’ve continued to keep going despite the odds of just gaining a little more recognition and just enjoy what I do have. Because I enjoy what I do but I would like more people coming to the channel because I love the interaction it’s literally one of my favourite parts about TH-cam! Your dream goals are impossible if you don’t try, and admit-tingly small if you do try, but the chance is still there and you increase the likelihood of something from it the more you put in, the more you get out Hope this inspires someone 🤗

I feel like you missed the bigger picture here, the view count limit was a good thing, the subscriber limit was also reasonable but the watchtime limit is the issue as it favours the daily vloggers over the animations, the short films, the creative and interesting content that might not be as sustainable as In-real-life streamers. Animated content that earns only $200 can now fund voice actors and software. A filmmaker could fund a camera or lighting equipment. It's not just about people wanting to be the next Jake Paul, it's people who are content being small creators if it means they can just create, those are the main group being punished. Equally it's not a maximum of $4 we're seeing people lose. The watch-count is costing people a lot more. I've seen animation channels who will no longer get $500, that's a lot of money to a small creator to just disappear. The original advertisement controversy was reported on in March 2017, the view count limitation was added in April 2017. Since then every controversy from Elsagate to the Paulers was caused by big channels who have already gained the system. I've yet to see evidence that the changes made in April weren't good enough. This is just a broad brush and a bad practice that simply kills specific content with longer production times in favour of the lower denominators.

I live in Sweden and have worked very very hard to do nice videos of a lot of different things going on in this beautiful country.
My goal then I started the channel one year ago was not to earn fast money from ads,
but show people what is going on in southern Sweden, that many people miss.
As a spin-off I hoped to get same paid work from one or another viewer that had the need for a videomaker by them selfes or at their work, and tip their boss.
It's a slow process, but I do have some paid jobs now and then, and I do it as a part time job.
Mostly of my videos isn't depending on understanding Swedish. I only have 64 subs, and 59 000 views that is a disappointment, but I do what I wants to do and I'm pleased with that.
The new policy was a slam in the face then I got the message from TH-cam, but PewDiePie explanied it better than TH-cam ever would.
But, I don't think it's the right way to go. Small creaters need some carrots...
