I like how each member of the Oarai Panzer IV crew are assigned a weapon that best fits their personalities. Miho being given the Luger P08, as it is the signature weapon given only to Heer commissioned officers and Panzer commanders and a symbol of German leadership and combat experience. Hana is given the Kar98k, a perfect weapon for Heer marksmen and sharpshooters and the most skilled operators are able to use this weapon effectively when they maintain their sense of calm since it only has 5 rounds and requires a rotating bolt to refire. Saori, being the radio operator gets the MP40 as her position is the closest to the front hatch and MP40s are designed to allow Panzer crews to defend themselves from these hatches. Being the least skilled member in direct combat, the MP40 is also the easiest german firearm to control. Yukari getting the STG 44 reflects her as being the most versatile member of the team, being the most knowledgeable member as well as being an excellent infiltrator, in addition to her role as a capable cannon loader. The STG 44 is the most versatile rifle in WW2 as it is the first assault rifle to be used in practice and can be used for both sharpshooting, suppression and close quarters. Yukari is well suited to using this weapon. Mako of course gets the MG42. It is the least mobile weapon in the german arsenal weighing just over 11.5kg. While being incredibly immobile, it is the most effective machine gun in WW2. Mako would enjoy using a weapon that does not require her to move a lot and she would get very skilled at using it in a very short timespan.

Girls und Panzer changed my life. My girlfriend isn't into anime and always had to endure my endless glorification of Germany's Tanks and Military of WW2 (She's actually German). But then we watched GuP and now she wants a Panzerkampfwagen 4 model kit to go with mine and plays World of Tanks with me, constantly role playing as Miho. All my Reenactment buddies (W-SS) also love the anime, so whenever we meet up we watch Panzer Dokus AND GuP. One Bruder even installed a mod to have the OST in the back while playing.

It would be awesome if we lived in a universe where people magically do not get hurt in tank vs tank battles as long as it's done with "an emphasis on safety" that does not stop people from shooting through the front or turret of tanks (where they have very high chances of hitting crewmembers). As a side note, one of the othe options on the electives paper shown in passing in the first episode was titled "magic" which would explain a lot about the GuP universe.

A silly joke I am still laughing about. It's the way they pronounce "Panzer" in Japanese. That sounds pretty close to the word for "Pants". In fact the word "Pantsu" (Pants) is nearly the same as "Pantsu~ã"(Panzer) hence the confusion in that first episode. So in the first episode when Miho announces she's looking for Panzers in Japanese, there's a joke that I'm pretty sure didn't make any translation that her mates thinks she's looking for panties and give her a very weird look. And each time she says "Panzer Vor" I am thinking about it, which makes me laugh way more than I should. What's wrong with me.

I spent the whole series wondering why Oarai's signature march sounded so familiar, and then I realised that it actually sounds similar, in minor ways, to the march from The Great Escape. I am not saying it's ripped off, merely that there's a resemblance.

the m8 is a monster with its bullshit speed and penetration for its br, besides the horrible velocity, but i got used to it quickly
