I really want to know what happened at the arena after they left. Specifically, whether they actually realize they were sentient or not. And then whether humans or any other species went after them for capturing sentients. Or if they themselves implemented any methods of figuring out if the species is sentient or not.
These kind of stories Always make me upset because of just the lack of intelligence of every other race out there They always overlook a very obviously sentient being, like it’s always so annoying and makes absolutely no sense no matter how they describe it. Also they didn’t scan him and see that he had any sort of cybernetic augmentation? the chips inside of his body? what if he had some sort of horrifying disease that could’ve exterminator their entire race? they just didn’t care? It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever
Everyone always thinks they'd never miss a sentient being. But you silly humans still don't know that solar flares are actually sentient plasma dragons.
@@hughgordon6435 Yes. But HFY is boring if the humans are the only competent species. It's lazy writing, to be honest. It's far more interesting for everyone to be competent and humans _still_ end up on top.
I understand your point, but I think that the story is correct in saying we ALL have blind spots. There are bound to be concepts that we consider so basic and obvious that an alien will have a very hard time understanding or ever recognizing that finding a common ground may be impossible. What we consider "intelligence" may just be considered "instinct" or "reflex" to an alien.

I agree. From my experience, most HFY stories tend to give Aliens an idiot ball.
