My mum was also brought up on new lodge estate They would have been know as the Featherstones ? My grandad was named Edward Featherstone if you knew of him !?
@exploringthepastandthepres9793 A bit before my time . I'm 49 so grew up in the 1980s on new lodge . The railway was kind of my playground hence my interest . Don't remember any Featherstone s at school either though they may have been some , just not in my year after school .

A lot of the cuttings were filled in by the spoil heaps from the closed pits
Be very careful with these old railway buildings,You and Wet dog are doing a good job but don’t get injured making the vids.
