I woke up to tiny wispy snow flurries at Dolly Sods once in August. Overnighting there in January? Much respect! Brrrr.

Winter in the Sods, now that’s extreme backpacking!! Would love to be out in those temps, I recently visited back in early Dec, and it got down to 7F with the wind chill. Great edit, as always!

Winter backpacking & camping can be a great experience but only with the proper gear. Be well prepared and try to always have a bail out option if things start to go badly. Happy trails!

What an epic trip! Thanks for sharing it with us. Curious to know who makes the saw you used in the video?

Hey thanks! I use a silky pocketboy saw. Cuts great and is light weight for a saw.

Nothing like a good campfire in the winter! Great job with the b roll as always. Even went the extra mile for the cool under water shot. Looking forward to the White Mountain video ✌

So no problems with isobutane at 10ish degrees. I saw in another vid that you have a liquid fuel stove. What is the deciding factor as to which one to bring in winter? THX At least in winter up there, no worries about slogging through the trail/marsh. well done!

I bring a liquid gas stove on all winter trips now. The isobutane failed on me once in winter which of course was my own fault. 😐

Did you have any problem simply getting to the parking lot and having a place to park. I have only been there in the snow from the parking lot at White Grass in Canaan and hiking up the forest service road

The red creek trailhead/parking is open year around. You just have to cross red creek which can be sketchy sometimes.

@@BackcountryTreks I new it was never closed I just wondered about being able to get a spot in the lot because of the snow that i guess is not plowed

The road leading to the trailhead is maintained in winter. I’m guessing because people live back there.
