This was a student project for Central Michigan University. All rights to the music belong to Atmosphere and Rhymesayers. Please buy their music to support them. Once again, I do not claim to own any part of the audio rights in this video.
With that being said, the video displays the relationship between a homeless man and the waitress that he admires. I decided not to give the story any additional closure so that it could be received the same way the original artist intended it to be.

I like how the dude at 1:00 is listening to "Not Another Day" by Atmosphere, and it's the verse that's about a homeless man, it's like he's listening to the lyrics but ignoring it in real life, nice attention to detail.

It makes sense though, the narrator is pretty creepy towards the waitress. Mind you, my interpretation of the song was that the waitress isn't his daughter, he sees her as a surrogate daughter because he failed as a father to his actual daughter, hence there's a parasocial relationship.
That's the point. You see what you Want to see. When in Reality, he just wants to see that she's still Breathing.

I've been listening to this track for 3 years now working as a waitress and it has always hit so close for me. I've never seen a music video for it and I was replaying it and decided to look for one- this one showed up. This is exactly how I've always pictured it in my head, this is amazing! Great job seriously.

oh nice yea usually on youtube the actors are clearly acting but this guy looks professional. Tells a story with his face. Great job on making this, its one of my favorite songs but i never seen this but i felt like hearing the song at work today and looked it up on youtube and found this. Well done. you got real talent.

+mike sullivan Yes indeed. Like ?Yesterday", where the twist is he is talking about his father and not a past girlfriend. However, I don't think this song has a twist. The waitress is NOT his daughter IMO, she merely reminds him of his daughter and how he should have been a better father. The waitress, in a way, is his only link to humanity and that is why he comes to see he everyday.
Tom Smith It IS his daughter. Aside from the fact that Slug has said she is his daughter; at the end when he's looking into the mirror and the reflection turns into the waitress it's heavily implied she's his daughter, she has same eye color, same hair color and her face appears right as he says daughter...

Did anyone else get this but, the waitress is the guys daughter. The waitress is mad at the dad bc he wasn't a good dad (as it says at the end). That is also why the daughter wants the dad out and why the dad keeps coming back...he wants to fix his relationship with his daughter.

its a really good video but something i have learned is that most artist refuse to make a video about a story they are telling because its suppose to be whatever the listener imagines it to be.. but again really good video
This video would benefit from some color grading in post. Jack the contrast, drop the blacks and maybe use different color pallets when the 2 main characters aren't on screen together, maybe a third when they are. Otherwise I'm really happy you decided to tackle this song as a school project :)

Great response. Well done video. I liked many of the things you did. My only suggestion: be a bit more subtle. Slug does a great job of telling the story, and I felt like you tried to forcefully convey each detail at times. Like I said, though, not bad!

Ha! The whole video is graded heavily, too much now that I look back at it. I chose a cold/blue palette for all scenes when the father is not in the same room as her. Around the waitress, its warm/orange. It shifts at 2:04. In terms of jacking the contrast and throwing away detail of the darks, I've found that to be a very amateurish look lately and I am not a fan of it anymore, personally. Although I will say the black point on this video doesn't look as dark as it was before uploading it.

@mattymaxima97 When he gets an angry look on face when another patron slaps her ass that was good as he is protective as a father not a sleezy homeless man. I don't believe he would be smiling all the time though. i think you missed it there. I think he would be a dirty homeless man only wanting one thing. Just to see her and be in the same place as her. Not enjoying ANY part of it. BTW i've talked with Sean specifically about this at a concert in Orlando. Thanks
