I was recently on a boat out of a port in Texas. I was using my new ocean jigger custom F 2000. I was the only one on the boat jigging. I was the only one on the boat to get a king mackerel, and Bonita. I caught the target snapper also. No comparison to a bite using squid, the fish just slam a jig. The reel, is by far the best reel I own. Not to mention fun to use. Worth every penny!
I have been slow jigging for the past 30 years. When the kingfish jiggers were going as fast as they could I discovered that if I jigged slow I caught just as many fish as them if not more & I could go all day. I will give you a tip. When you hookup on a kingfish near the bottom do not go hard on it as it will bolt for the bottom & try & reef you. I am talking about much bigger fish of around10 kg & more. When you hookup you should drop your rod tip immediately & take all pressure off the fish with light drag. You then pump it up VERY SLOWLY even slower than the way you were jigging. If it wants to run drop your rod tip again. By doing this you will lead it up away from the bottom then you can put more pressure on it & not get reefed. I have caught 15kg fish on 6kg line & my largest 22kg on 10kg line. It is a great method give it a try you actually trick the fish by bringing it away from the bottom slowly, it works.

without the level wind, how do you ensure your line doesnt clump?
Heavy jig
