3 years later and this video is the best so far explaining adding an inch to the measurements makes the difference of the depth love it keep on teaching - a wealth of info I will use this guide
Wow, this video is wonderful! Thank you for giving us the important information to help us make boxes of many different sizes. You are very smart and very generous to give us this knowledge!
What a life saver this video was....lol. Thanks for the demo and the repeated sizes. I need to make 34 boxes to hold this year's family Christmas card and you've just given me the ticket! Love it.
Thanks so much for explaining how to do the measurements Mary! I wondered how you work out the measurements you need for a box. So many demonstrators have show how to make boxes, but not how to work out the measurements! So helpful. TFS xx
Oh, oh, I have been looking for this for weeks. Gone crazy makin 3x3 cards. NEEDED an envelope/box for them. Thank you for being smart enough to solve MY problem. Thank you , thank you, thank you!!
Thanks Hazel, I know I was frustrated just getting one box at a time. But then when I got it I was so excited. Of course little things excite me. I hope you enjoy making the more boxes.
Thank you Mary for taking time to educate us. Whether one has been making boxes a long time or never….you have useful tips. I appreciate your time. You seem very real and your videos are comfortable to watch. Great teacher!
Thank you for this tutorial on the different size boxes. Note that you did this back in Nov 2013 but always good to learn new tips even in Oct 2020 whilst in lockdown, your first comment of Covid-19 year. Hope all is well with you and yours. I am definitely not bored of being home alone when I have the University of TH-cam to watch teach and create.😊😷
Mary, YOU are the smart one! Who else figured this out and then to share it! Well, that is just enough for me to pay close attention to what you have to say! Merry Christmas, Mary T, Merry Christmas, to one nice, SMART and generous lady!!!
Thank You Adrienne, I hope it helps. You should also check out my blog and facebook page marysstampinghappenings.blogspot.com/ facebook.com/MaryTrautnerStampinUp Merry Christmas to you and yours.
@MaryTrautner Probably one of the best & most straight forward envelope making videos I have seen yet. Your explanations are fantastic. Thank you for posting this video 😉.
Hi Mary, I am so thankful for finding your video. I was a Stampin Up Demo years and years ago. But because of personal and emotional reasons I left. I still have some card stock left and it's amazing how well it has held up. I also have many other products that I still use and love. I recently got back into making cards and with all the new products I've collected through the years it was easy to pick up where I left off. I do love the fact that I keep finding new methods of using them. I watched many videos, But yours was just easy I want to commend you and thank you again for CLEARLY explaining this, I'm hooked LOL! you have gain another subbie. THANK YOU THANK YOU. Lot of crafty hugz, Olga
Olga Thank you and glad you made it back into card Making. I love it as it is so relaxing. If you have any questions please let me know and check out my facebook page facebook.com/MaryTrautnerStampinUp and blog marysstampinghappenings.blogspot.com/ for more ideas Happy Stamping Mary
Hi! Thank you so much for sharing this envelope box. I have already made two boxes since I’ve seen this video. Thank you for explaining how to work out the measurements! I watched so many tutes and I just didn’t get it 😢now I too can make 66 boxes 😅 much appreciated!
I don’t have an envelope punch board but I have a gift box punch board! I glued a paper tape measure to it and wrapped the excess few inches under to pull out for measuring when I need it. I downloaded the punch board envelope sizes from the internet and I was able to make envelopes and the boxes you showed in this video!
Thank you so much! I was about to pull my hair out trying to figure how to make boxes for coasters. SUPER! Now I can use my envelope punch for more than envelopes! 🥰🥰🥰
Mary, I have been scratching my head to try to figure this out with a basic score board, I'm not sure that I have it yet, but your instructions have started a glimmer! Thanks so much.
Joan you may also want to try this video it shows how to do a box with the Simply Score Scoring tool. th-cam.com/video/AR6DIkT2slI/w-d-xo.html Glad you enjoyed the video.
I just recently bought my punch board and I love it! Thank you for all if your helpful information . I'm a new subscriber and look forward to watching your videos. Have a beautiful day!!!
I'm pulling my hair out trying to make one that will hold TWO Ghirardelli chocolate squares. I canNOT figure out the measurements. Care to give it a go?? I'd be forever in your debt...AND I won't lose any more sleep! Ha...Beautiful work, Mary!
Great video. Lets me make lots of boxes. However, I have a tip. On the bottom of the box, don't cut the little square completely out. Leave a flap and put some adhesive and that will help guide your box when you are putting it together!
Thank you sooooo!! much for sharing this video!! It is very helpful and I was wondering how I would ever figure out how to make different size boxes. :) Blessings to you and thank you for your time! :)
Very very helpful! Thank you so much! I have subscribed. Sometimes I need a "fatter" envelope because of all the embellishments I put on a card. And sometimes I need a box. lol Happy New Year!
holy smokes! i am a little late to the "party", but this video is amazing!!! so excited to try this! new subbie now and can't wait to watch other videos!!!
Use the square cutouts to paste to the fronts of cards to create full backgrounds! For a square down then leave a tiny space for the next one leave a tiny space and repeat this until the front of the card is completely covered.
May I make a suggestion on a quick way to seal your boxes and keep them square. Ready? Find a small firm square object ( block of wood, dvd box, actual small jewelry box, paperback book, etc) that is the same measurement of the width you increased the envelope. ( You used 1 inch increments and suggested a 2 inch increment so that is the size object you will use.) Tuck that object into the corner and fold one side over it, square it up, fold the other side and VOILA'! a squared box corner. If the object is small enough you can use it on the other side as well. I hope I explained myself well enough. I thoroughly enjoyed your video, your video quality ( wonderful!) and especially your enthusiasm and willingness to share! Thanks again ...and I will be thinking on what to do with the scraps! Cheers Dave M ( a male crafter! )_
Dave thanks a bunch. And do I have blocks available. That is a super idea thank you very much for sharing. Would you mind if I did a Tips & Techniques on that one?
It has been so long I would not be able to remember. Pile you cards and then measure the height of them it will hold as slightly less than the inside depth.
Mary, I am stupid when it comes to figuring out these boxes. Would you be willing to do a 7" x 7" card box???? My cards are larger than 6 x 6 because of the embellishing... Thank you!!!!
Gloria, I really don't have time to do every individual request but head over to my Blog and it will give you how to do these boxes in writing if that would help. marysstampinghappenings.blogspot.com/2013/11/tips-techniques-tuesday-november-19.html
just got a envelope punch board, anxious to use it to make boxes for my cards(I'm a photographer) and make my own photo cards. they are 5x7 cards so what sze paper and measurements do i use?...Thank you...
The Measurements are on the punch board. The Card size is the first column so find 5 x 7 move to the next column the paper size and it will tell you what size for the envelope I believe it is 9 1/2 x 9 1/2 so if you want a box to hold 4 to 5 cards you add an inch so you will need a paper 10 1/2 x 10 1/2. Then score and punch at 4 and add how much you also increased your paper size for so also score and punch at 5. Turn a quarter of a turn and score and punch on both score lines all the way around.
Mary, I forgot to add with just a 1/4" depth because I want to use them for mailing... I sent a smaller one with 1/2 " and the person told me it was a mess when they rec'd it..
Janet. I find for a card that large the Simply Scored tool would be better. You take a 12 x 12 piece of Designer Series paper and with the Diagonal Plate you score at 5 3/4 all the way around cut out the little triangles and fold. On he envelope punch board it is hard to measure to 5 3/4 and it should be 5 3/4 all the way around you have to measure each one or I ran into it not fitting. In fact I think 6 all the way around was better but I don't know if that was just because I couldn't get an accurate measurement or not.
you asked what can you do with the little bits that you cut off, well I use my when I do scrapbooking, sometime I put some around the photos or just on the page.
+jeanette keys well, I was sure "someone" would figure out what to do with them, just saw this posting and missed it when I was looking for answers to Mary's challenge,--I just did a quick video showing how I used the bits (handpainted backside of scrapbook papers that I didn't particularly like) to add to earring cards to be used inside of all those boxes I made thanks to Mary's tip, I have posted all the still pictures of my project on Google+, and am now trying to upload a video putting it all together. I am sure others have figured out how to use these, but until I saw your posting, had not found any.
Mary, I am trying to make a box envelope for a card that is 6 x 6" i cut 9.5 x 9.5 card stock and scored @ 3 3.4 and 4 3/4" the box envelope came out at 6 x 4 3/4" it was to short can you help x
+Rachael22Jane First off just an envelope calls for 9 1/4 square so if you want a box 1 Thick you must start out with a piece 10 1/4 square. Side one score Punch at 4 3/4 and 5 3/4 turn a half turn to side three and score and punch at 4 3/4 and 5 3/4 turn a quarter turn to side 4 and score and punch on the lines you have already scored on turn a half turn and score and punch again on the lines you have already scored
I need a slim box for an A2 size not flat but not too thick . My dimensional card almost fits into a flat envelope but not quit small enough, yet not so big that some of the videos show too much depth. I am new at this punch board and kinda confused. How to get the right depth. :-) thanks!
I really like this video but I wouldn’t cut the squares at the bottom so that they will cover the gap in the bottom corners. Just cut them on one side and make them into tabs!
Mary, this is a wonderful instructional video. I have two questions that I THINK I already know the answer to but wanted to confirm. If I only need the box to be 1/2" thick, then I'd only had 1/2" to my measurement, correct? And for an A2 size card if I want my box to be 1/4" larger all around so it's not a snug fit, then I would add 1/4" inch to the 4.25" x 5.5". Is that also correct? (Then add my 1/2" for the depth?). I hope I explained that all correctly. Thanks!
just take the measurements you will need to make the envelope and just add how much you will need to make it Measure how much 6 cards are and add that as the increase.
3 years later and this video is the best so far explaining adding an inch to the measurements makes the difference of the depth love it keep on teaching - a wealth of info I will use this guide

OF COURSE! Share away with that contagious enthusiasm!
The last box you showed, how many cards will it hold? Thx for sharing.
It has been so long I would not be able to remember. Pile you cards and then measure the height of them it will hold as slightly less than the inside depth.
Thank you so much for this beautiful box. But I don't have a punch board. Can you make a bow by hand without a punch board pls?
Well I have a punch that makes one, I have a die that makes one. I bet we can make one with out a punch board. Let me look into it.
If you are looking to do boxes by hand check out this Video. th-cam.com/video/rmm3BQ_3DFE/w-d-xo.html

Use the little cut as pedals, or layered leaves.
Good Idea Thanks

Sure can
Excellent thank you!

Mary, I forgot to add with just a 1/4" depth because I want to use them for mailing...
I sent a smaller one with 1/2 " and the person told me it was a mess when they rec'd it..
Bloody brilliant!!!
Thank You I thought so also
Thank you all
those little punched out bits you can make flowers out of them... there is a video about that on U-tube
can you please tell me how I can make an envelope for a 8x8 card with this board
In fact I think 6 all the way around was better but I don't know if that was just because I couldn't get an accurate measurement or not.
thank u Mary
Thank you your video wa perfect.

I need a slim box for an A2 size not flat but not too thick . My dimensional card almost fits into a flat envelope but not quit small enough, yet not so big that some of the videos show too much depth. I am new at this punch board and kinda confused. How to get the right depth. :-) thanks!
JUst take the measurements and you can figure it out with the video.
thanks I got it!!
Cool music 👌
Thanks. Stampin' Up! Has some great music for their conventions
I really like this video but I wouldn’t cut the squares at the bottom so that they will cover the gap in the bottom corners. Just cut them on one side and make them into tabs!
Thanks and yes you.can do that.
Tell you daughter not many smart people can crack the code like you did😉
Lue David thanks I will.
You can use them for photo corners.
Thanks that is a great idea.
the tiny square make a patch work boxes
jane waldron thanks
Use the bits to make a shaker card
Great idea
Make key tags with pieces you punch out, or even just tags.
OMG I didn't know this was 10 years ago. TH-cam is showing alot of older ones. Still some of the best.
Thanks
Tell your daughter, mothers as smart as their off springs only more gifted
Good one I will tell her.
I save them for confetti.
Great idea. Thanks

+Sylvia Olsen Thank You
;-)
Mary, this is a wonderful instructional video. I have two questions that I THINK I already know the answer to but wanted to confirm.
If I only need the box to be 1/2" thick, then I'd only had 1/2" to my measurement, correct?
And for an A2 size card if I want my box to be 1/4" larger all around so it's not a snug fit, then I would add 1/4" inch to the 4.25" x 5.5". Is that also correct? (Then add my 1/2" for the depth?). I hope I explained that all correctly.
Thanks!
Patti that is correct.
Can you make a video showing how you make a box for a 6th card and a 5.5x5.5 box? Thanks
just take the measurements you will need to make the envelope and just add how much you will need to make it Measure how much 6 cards are and add that as the increase.
