Bloody legend for uploading this! Smashed mine out in a day and your video helped alot. Note for people reading - be sure not to disturb your AC controls. They are tricky to get back together.
I`m about to do mine of on the weekend. i bought my ute (2018 model with 80,000kms) i had the ute a couple of weeks and the a/c stopped working. I`m fitting a bracket on the line int he engine bay to stop the pipe from moving stop the new evaporator from leaking. awesome video mate keep up the good work
@@jamestyrrell4179 mine was different to yours. Three nuts and disconnect the refrigerator pipes and it slid out. I was done in 45 minutes with it installed back in the vehicle.
Forgive me, this may be a stupid question to ask; but, is it at all possible to remove one part of the dash close to the evaporator unit only, thereafter losen stuff necessary to remove that evaporator unit without breaking anything and saving more time?
Hi mate, Cool video. I think mine went on me today. Heat still works fine, but when I flick to cold.. it’s mild at best. Could that be the evaporator too? Or because I have heat.. it must be something else?
The heater and aircon cores a different so heater can still work while the a/c doesn't. Best to get an aircon specialist to do a leak check and he will tell you exactly where the problem will be. It's a big job pulling out the dash so make it a last resort
Is there a permanent fix for the cracked evaporator? I have read on a forum if you extend the rubber line going into the firewall it will take the load off the fitting into the firewall giving it more flex when the engine moves under torque. Just wondering if you have heard of anything similar seeing as you've replaced yours multiple times. I have a '18 Dmax that's about to run out of warranty so I am looking for a permanent solution.
The Ali pipe that runs through the firewall needs a clamp on it in the engine bay. Apparently the rg Colorado's have a clamp on theirs and you can use the same clamp on the dmax
hey mate, whats the symptom for a broken evaporator?.no a/c?..I have just started getting a wet passenger side footwell..A/C still cranks tho?..we have a had a bit of rain here in Qld so wondering if its found a way in through the firewall grommet as I've run some extra wires through it..Really don't fancy ripping out the dash!
Hey man, yea you won't have a/c when the evap goes so yours is all good. For the water I reckon your correct with it coming in through the grommet. I get water in my passenger side after I wash the engine bay and it comes in through the grommet
@@jamestyrrell4179 water on the passenger side floor foot rest means that the cabin filter is blocked by dust particles so the warm air in the cabin condenses on filter cover and forms water that drips into the floor. All you have to do is clean the filter and everything will be fine.
These Dmax's are garbage. Just spent 2 days testing out the aircon on a 2014 with an aircon leak and everything is fine in the engine bay (condenser, compressor, aircon lines) until it hits the connections on the firewall. Just found your video (many thanks for it) and it seems those firewall lines go straight into the evaporator, so it seems clear the evaporator has the leak. I have a 2006 Mitsu L200/Triton and no problems with the aircon (or any problems I can think of since I bought it new), and yet someone in our family bought this 2014 Dmax and he has had no end of problems with it. Can only say it re-enforces General Motors reputation for making rubbish vechicals!
Yep the aircons are a big letdown for them. To fix the issue they need a support on the lines going through the firewall to stop them vibrating so much

Thanks mate! And yep the a/c controls had me stuck for ages
Great video mate! I did this job on the weekend after watching your video a few times. Thanks very much for taking the time & posting👌

Where did u get the bracket?
Thanks mate for taking the time out to do this. I'm about to undertake this myself and t.b.h not looking forward to it. Cheers.
It's not a fun job to do. Just be careful not to break or loose the plastic clips in the dash

Oh wow that's lucky. Wish mine was that easy

Awesome video. Thanks heaps for making the effort to put it up. Saved me 1600 bucks. :)
Can anyone recommend a good after market one. James you must be quick as to get that done in a few hours!. Plenty of practice.
Hey bro do u have a link where to purchase the evaporator
How did the passengers airbag plug come off I'm doing one tomorrow
Can't actually remember now. But came off easy
Think there was 4 bolt you access from underneath the bag. Once the glove boxes are removed.
@@thomasmackenzie6079 I got the bolts out and found two clips that need to be pushed in to remove the plug

No you can't unfortunately. Whole dash needs to come out
Doing mine now but using aftermaket and clamp on firewall.

@@jamestyrrell4179 thanks mate. Appreciate the advice
Why replace again?? What causes this is it faulty parts?? Mine has gone again. 2016 Lst
They need a clamp on the hardpipe in the engine bay. Without it they vibrate and fatigue the evaporator causing it to crack

Scary job mate, how many hours all up?
It sure is. Was about 3-4 hours. Not too bad just really fiddly
Use an after market evaporator so as it doesn't reoccur.
