Listen Chief. When I was sent to NY for work in the 2000s one of the first things I did was find this Deli and Rupert was unfortunately not working that day. One of my biggest disappointments.

Rupert truly is. He talked to me and my mom/dad/sister for like 45 minutes while letting us take pictures and he told us stories while we ate lunch. The dude literally could see how FRIGGIN excited I was at age 14 to be meeting him and he even joked about how he isn't a real celebrity. The world was so different back then. Now any Jerkoff with a phone can be famous doing what Dave and Rupert did back in the day.

I agree. Rupert told me from his own mouth that people would get PISSED and some tried to even fight him LOL. Rupert let me take tons of pictures with him and talked to me and my family for like 45 minutes at the Hello Deli. He is such an awesome guy and it was actually the only time I ever set foot inside Manhattan (circa 1997) and everyone treated us wonderfully. The world really did change after 9/11. That same day we met Rupert we also visited the deck of the South Tower. Amazing day.

This bit changed my life. Along with Mujibur and Sirajul. It's Supah Cleem.
Daily life at a Catholic high school was hell, my parents had recently gotten divorced and I was witnessing my Vietnam Vet father spiral into being a shell of the man I thought he was. All adults seemed lost in self delusion. David Letterman seemed to be one of the few people in existence who was aware of the absurdity of life and his approach to that was to laugh. I'm certain the fact that I could touch base with that humor five nights a week kept me from doing something drastic.

I got to tell you guys, late-night these days sucks!! Dave truly innovative, look at all the various segments are there was calling Meg from across the street or Rupert, or calling random people and asking them about the weather, I mean the man is a genius!! They were very simple stuff but they were really funny! None of today's late night hosts come even close to what Letterman did! Letterman and Carson will always be the best. Leno wasn't even this funny as these guys were, Conan tries really hard but he doesn't have what Dave had. Fallon, Kimmel, and the rest of them are trash. Kimmel disappoints me the most because Letterman was his hero!

I forgot Dave had such a way with making names sound bland. Kenny, Chester, Monty, etc. I remember vividly from 25 years ago, the women at lunch getting very upset. They had every reason to act like that but I bet in the end they wished they'd been more graceful. It's great to see some people on here just going with the flow like the French girl and the guy with the deviated septum.

As part of the early Late Show's campaign to "meet the neighbors," they came across Mujibur and Sirajul in their store on September 13, 1993 (LS #11). A week later, September 20 (LS #16), they introduced Rupert.

      Ellen stole plenty from Letterman.
And she's selling it to an audience who wasn't old enough to stay up to watch it.
Ellen is a phony and a thief.

I'm surprised they let the S-word air at 26:32. That guy didn't have any patience for Rupert's tomfoolery. I think I remember the one where he puts his thumb in the ladies glass. "I'm about to kick your ass" "I'd pay to see that". "I have alot of personal problems." "Touch me you die. Go away". How was he able to be a waiter there that long without getting caught acting as one. You got to have some guts to do that kind of stuff. "Phone call for Larry, Larry, Larry" "I'm Larry". Wow, he writes very neatly with that mustard. "OJ killed another guy. Read all about it" "Hey Tubby, it's showtime" "No ass bitin' spider this time. Can I smell these, OMG, hit me with a board"
