When we sat down in the Storycorps booth, I had my "plan" for what we'd talk about. I had no idea what was to come. I cried. Cried like a baby. For me, it was more a spontaneous thing... so many disparate memories and unresolved questions becoming crystal clear at once. Kind of like a tidal-wave of understanding washing over all the curiosities I've been building for a lifetime.
My mother celebrated her 80th birthday last month (I'm sure she'll kill me for just outing her age here). While there are any number of things I'd like her to know, one thing I KNOW she knows is that she's deeply loved. To find serenity in such a simple thing... I wish that for everyone.
All: Thanks for listening to my mom's and my story, and all the positive feedback. My dad passed away almost two years ago to the day. Coming up on another Father's Day, it seems strangely fitting to be focusing on my mother. She's one-in-a-million and, no, we haven't missed much.😀 ~ Cheers, Scott.

+Scott Miller You and your mom here, especially when you spoke of how you try not to be too emotional when you think about how scary or hard life will be without her, pierced my heart and soul because that is exactly how I feel about my geriatric mom and me. What really got to me was what your mother said in here, "that's something I can't make better for you, and I don't doubt it'll be tough, but you'll be okay" because that is exactly what my mom said to me. Definitely cried watching this video, but it was cathartic. The fact that you have such a marvelously loving relationship with her is a blessing that has no end in time. Blessings to you both!!

The "And you'll be okay." part got to me. She's 78 years old, he's a grown man and yet when he's worried she still talks like a mother comforting a young son. And that's how we boys who were lucky to have mothers will always see them. No matter how old we get, no matter the families and responsibilities we take on ourselves, Mom is always Mom, and nobody else will ever be that.

Bold move adopting in the 70s back then being adopted wasn't something just overlooked. It could be ammo for bullies and cost you reputation. I was adopted in 2000 a day old. Seeing this makes me want to get with my mother and set something up with StoryCorps. Get her to tell our story. Something to look back on when I'm much older.

She's got such a beautiful soul. I am certain she wonders about the little boy or girl she relunquished. I hope that before it's too late, she finds that child. Every mom wonders if their baby is safe and happy and doing okay. And every baby grows up to wonder where it came from. I hope she seeks out help to find the child. One's heart has infinite love.

This reminds me of how when in middle school I came out as trans and was transitioning, I didn't believe my parents loved me anymore. Everyday when either of told me they loved me, I didn't believe them because they misgendered me and deadnamed me, so I thought they just missed the girl they wanted and didn't like the boy they had.
My dad dad-joked me when he was trimming my hair yesterday I said, "Damn son!" and he said, "No *you're* the son." And back then when I was first figuring out my name that sort of casual affirmation felt like some fantasy, like a unicorn or something. But my mom told me she loved me and called me by the name I chose.
I think what about this story hit me was that his mom loved him and that he got to spend time with her knowing she loved him through and through. Which is something I hadn't dreamed of having. But now I have that. And I'm so happy I get to have that.

OMG! My mom have similar experience like this! My mom got pregnant when she was 21, not married her boyfriend (my dad), he left she alone. My mom want to abort me but her sisters (my aunts) told she to not abort. Luckily my mom decided to take care of me rest of my all life. Now I'm 13-year-old. I have nice stepdad and 3 young half-brothers.
