Game and story extremely overrated. Hideo Kojima fancies himself this clever writer, but the whole MSGV story and game is convoluted and repetitive and when you stand MSGV next to Breath of the Wild, Red Dead Redemption, several other titles, there really is no comparison. Also, when you look at what HK went on to do with Death Stranding, its clear that he is not as talented as he thinks he is.
Having 100%'d the game and played the online FOB system a lot I've never seen there be a debuff to venom snake when he's in his demon snake form, it's purely an aesthetic thing. Creating a nuke does max out your evil-ness though, that is correct.
It's likely because Venom missed her second bomb, he blamed himself for her death and created a false scenario in his head where she is alive, which can happen to people dealing with extreme guilt.
Believe in whatever but I truly believe both bombs were taken out, the rpg from the xof chopper took them all out. She was just delusional thinking there was still another. Venom is prolly only having this flashbacks and stuff for the player and snake. I don’t think it’s directly relating to his experience as the medic on the chopper. Both bombs removed, she still died. Nothing could be done. If anything the guilt is from the opposite. Maybe there was another bomb they didn’t find? Yadda Yadda, just guilt trying to explain that there was nothing to be done. Super simple. I don’t get why people think the bombs were hallucinations.
@gimpscam9976 That wouldn't make any sense considering there are several tapes confirming otherwise, also... how do you think Venom got his arm taken? Same with Kaz. Where tf did you get this theory? It literally contradicts everything setting up the story of MGS5 just so you can think, "Yay! Everyone survived." That's not how war goes, and that's not what the story is about. Venom's hallucination mirrors his previous line, pertaining to his missing limb, "I can feel pain... in my left arm." He still feels the loss of his friend even after she's gone.
@gimpscam9976 i don't think anyone is saying the bombs were hallucinations, they are saying Paz, in the medical platform, during the events of The Phantom Pain, is the hallucination.
I think for all the inconsistencies we find in the game with which events actually happened, it's one of Kojima's themes about truth manipulation. There are clues to guide us towards certain paths about what is the truth, but with so many missing factors to establish a solid continuity, it is borderline impossible. This turns the people that accept reality as it is as pawns, or the people that seek a truth that can't be found mad. This is the dangers about having people control history, brainwashing you into accepting a narrative, or leaving out enough key points that you can't decide on what's true (a fool's journey). The truth becomes so diluted that it is forever lost.
It doesn't help that the game was never actually finished and is missing the final third and subsequently a lot of information and answers we were meant to, but will never actually get.
It's interesting that Lord of the Flies, which is referenced in the game, is a book on this subject, too. If the grown ups didn't show up in time, Jack, a stand in for aristocracy who began killing off other kids, would've killed Ralph and tampered with Ralph's diary to author the story of what happened on the island, making Ralph out to be a villain. Knowing the truth is power, and powermongers want to usurp it.
That's genuinely creepy how parts of the whole hospital segment was possibly just Venom's head acting up. And we, the player, get to see it from his view. These mgs games are truly mentally scary. There's ghost, creepy Ai near the end of mgs 2, alien references, a giant man who communicates to ravens. Zombie soldiers.
@@marten6578 doesn't sound dumb at all, MGSV is a set that includes Ground Zero even though they released separately. It makes perfect sense that we are experiencing the events of Ground Zeroes as part of Venom Snake altered memory. And it perfectly explains the inconsistencies between Peace Walker and Ground Zeroes.
@@invaderIRK1 we are experiencing ground zeroes incident because it's set before phantom pain in 1984. there's a replay of the awakening mission at the end of the game with a few revealing scenes from big boss's view and also a few medic's scenes which are extended. but any scene can be interpreted as vr/hypnotherapy because we the player replay missions so many times and fill memory gaps with our interpretations. it's just like tanker/plant parts in mgs2. i don't even know what's going on in mgs timeline and i've been playing these games since i was a kid. i bet neither kojima knows either. it's a convoluted mess of storytelling, fans like come up with theories because of that.
@@marten6578 understand your point completely, and i just want to be clear, hypothesizing that Ground Zeroes is seen through the perspective of Venom snake's altered Hypno induced memories doesn't take away from the fact that the event of Ground zeroes actually happened. Just that we see it through the perspective of an unreliable narrator. Although mgs has a very convoluted story, Kojima is well known for going to very great lengths and leaving no stone unturned when it comes to building the world and story of each specific game in the franchise. It's rare to see something done unintentionally when it comes to the story and world he creates for mgs.
@@invaderIRK1 fair point. that's what interpretations are at the end of the day, and i believe snake touched on that in mgs2 with raiden (or rather the player).
Ahh whoops my bad, I also noticed right before he gives you the gun he shoots the enemy in the cutscene, so he does interact with people. But if he's from psycho mantis or not I'm not sure.
@@Hero_of_Sinnoh I must have forgot it in the cut scene. I just finished doing that mission a bunch of times to get all goals and no kills was one of the last things I did. To be fair you also have to wait a very long time. I wasn't sure he would do it.
I do think that Ishmael is Big Boss. The audio tapes confirm Big Boss WAS staying in that room with Venom, as he had conversations with Zero about the whole doppelganger thing. But something I heard is that the reason Ishmael has a right eye is because it's a glass eye, due to Snake having lost his entire eye back in Snake Eater, and not just gone blind. This is also another way to realise V isn't the real Snake we're seeing in the hospital, because the real Snake doesn't have a right eye, whereas V is simply blind in his right eye. Then there's the fact that the doctor mentions how the horn presses on his right optic nerve (explaining why he's blind in that eye), but mentioning this to a man that is already blind in that eye wouldn't be relevant, no? Also, when V asks Ishmael who he is, he responds "You're talking to yourself", while almost chuckling. Lastly, in Peace Walker, Snake deliberately says he'd rather quit smoking altogether than to consider smoking electric cigars/cigarettes, yet we see only ONE instance of V smoking a real Cigar, whereas he smokes an electric one all game.
@@maxm.m.7219 very good points, there are a few theories online about the authenticity of the truth tapes though, and the plan of big boss being at the hospital unarmed to protect his phantom doesn't make much sense, but this is another rabbit hole that includes other small details & such. & I think Kojima deliberately made it hard to tell what the truth is, as the theme of the game. But love the discussion non the less.
I think Venom called Huey "Dr Emmerich" because he felt Huey was no longer on a first name basis with him after his betrayal. We know he has most of Big Boss' memories (at least the stuff everyone involved in the plan knows), so he probably felt just as betrayed as the real Big Boss might have and decided Huey was no longer a friend and was now just "Dr. Emmerich".
IT could of been a masterpiece. But it was never allowed to be. Konami got tired of Kojima's huge ambitious big budget desire for big music, hollywood actors, and perfectionism. We see this in MGS4 documentary where in group meetings they were frustrated how long his little details he wanted to add were taken and the missing of deadlines, combined with going over-budget.
i knew all em but a nice refresher nonetheless note 1, this video reminded me of when i crafted the water pistol and then forgot to bring it to the volgin mission note 2, i initially thought the v stood for vengeance before hearing that it stood peace and victory, as kaz is pissed off and vengeful, venom bears a vengeful connotation, and "v has come to" made more sense to me as "vengeance has arrived" seeing how kaz and venom have woken up seeking revenge for their old base
Lots of the parts about Ishmael ‘not being real’ are interesting but proven completely wrong by the audio tapes in the game, where Ocelot and the Real Big Boss clearly state that Big Boss’s ‘final mission’ is to get Venom out of the hospital and protect him, as well as Ocelot rescuing Ishmael from the ambulance and saying ‘come on Boss’ and setting up the true motorbike ending. Most of the ‘theories’ on this are therefore likely just production oversights, or intended to make the player question what is fact and what is actually fiction during the hospital escape.
There's no debuff to being venom snake, it's purely an aesthetic punishment. Nukes do fill out the horn to max though, you could be completely moral the entire game and on the creation of a nuke you will be clad in blood the moment you go through a load screen.
Played the game for probably 1000 hours while always going for no-kill and farming tons of heroism. The final achievement in the game I ended up geting was the one for building a nuke, which I only got like 2 years ago. And guess what? Instantly Demon Snake with the massive horn, though there was no blood.
@@XDLugia Then at one point beforehand you had done enough for the blood, the requirements for demonsnake change after the first time you get it and creating a nuke immediately give you enough for the first time.
This one mission was pretty much finished imo. Most likely all of the main ones were, but then Kojimbo hit the budget and the rest didn't get to have as much love as the rest. We could probably have game of a century if Konami gave unlimited budget :(
@@notreal7849 All of the main missions in the game are pretty much finished but there was supposed to be a whole ass third act that ended up being cut.
I still don't want to believe that it was Venom Snake we were playing at GZ, Snake in that game is too different what we play in TPP, the way he talks, the decisions, how he moves its just not Venom
Maybe similar to the Tanker Incident in MGS2. The Snake mission was real, the Raiden VR was real as well, but mix them together and it becomes whackfest.
Real quick; not inconsistencies, it's Kojima telling us we aren't who we think. IE the cover of The Man Who Sold The World at the start. Big Boss in a coma for 9 years, Venom in a drugged controlled coma for 9 years. That way no me would make a play to kill him and get the wrong one
So basically Skull face is another version of Big Boss that went rougue so they brain washed the medic in the helicopter to make him think that he's big boss and point him towards defeating skull face but in reality Kaz and Ocelot worked with Skullface and XOF before so most likely they just getting rid of loose ends and clear big boss's image buuuuut Skull face can actually be an evil version of Venom snake and most likely a product of his imagination... Yeah, i kinda understand why people hate kojima's writing.
I've always thought of that Paz mission in Phantom Pain as a little nod to Kojima's silent hills. From how the soldiers moved, to the guilt Venom felt about Paz, down to the eerie piano song that plays.
One thing is certain about Ishmael is that he was actually a real person, not venom snake's hallucination. Now whether he was the real big boss or some other person is upto debate. When Quiet was sent to assassinate venom snake in the hospital, she said the line "Not yet. The patient in the next bed saw my face", which proves that it was Ishamel who saw quiet's face. Quiet never had any hallucinatory issue like venom snake and was fully mentaly healthy so she was there and she saw ishmael with her own eyes. Another thing to mention is that venom snake was physically exhausted and weak after waking up from a 9 years of coma. So he wouldn't be able to throw things at quiet and douse her with fire. Anybody after waking up even 6 months of coma would be very exhausted at first and would need some time to fully regain strength to fight and move around. Ishmael, the person, helped venom snake survive and escape from the hospital after venom snake woke up from a decade long coma. Or, Ishmael wasn't real and was just a hallucination after all as the game was made to question reality. It was inspired from 1984 novel so....
Ishmael was real. "The man who sold the world" reveals, that he woke up before venom and meet up with Ocelot. As for the coma: i dont know how accurate Kojima took it. THe doctor mentioned that Venoms muscles were kept stimulated with massages and electrodes to avoid them losing mass. The way i understand it, Venom should be able to walk around after so many years with ease, not performing sport stunts, sure, but moving around.
One way of interpreting Venom's muscle mass versus Ishmael's is that Ishmael just had more attention poured into him, as opposed to Venom. Like, they maybe just exercised him more often. You can also make this connection by looking at Ishmael's bedside table once you start crawling on the floor. Ishmael has dozens of large flower vases on his bedside. Venom just gets one tiny flower jar. One these children was more loved than the other.
@@xerberus3337 Also I think Ishmael wakes up earlier than Venom does. I believe years earlier and is sorta keeping watch until the plan moves forward, because he has to be convinced to allow it to go through.
9:09 as a kid I always thought Man on Fire knew Ismael was Naked snake and the reason he ignored Venom snake trying to run away from him by being next to the walls and just walked straight towards Ismael (real snake) almost like his Anger connected the dots 🔥
I never considered the idea that Ground Zeroes was all an elaborate hallucination, and just a figment of Venom's imagination, but it actually makes tons of sense! It could have been induced into his mind by "The Third Child" (Mantis) during his coma or something (he was out of it for 9 years after all)
omg i never knew about the shadow.. jesus every MGS from 2 on up just has literally endless amounts of details, easter eggs, unique interactions that you can play all the games for hundreds of hours on end and ALWAYS find something new and interesting. the creative lengths they go to really highlight why video games can be so awesome and why Kojima games in particular have a soft spot for anyone who has ever played one.
Nope, even disregarding a joke of a plot Survive is, the Main Protagonist of that game is implied to be one of the KIA/MIA staff during the attack on Mother Base. These soldiers are MIA during a mission and were not present during the initial attack. Also, their design sucks ass, their uniform in Peace Walker was perfection and didn't need to he changed
Wow. Thats pretty sad that Snake imagined paz and the missing soldiers even though thats not the real big boss. Poor Venom. They really messed with his head.
I actually learned early on that if you wanted to balance out your demon points, just load up on on tranq hear and take "hunting trips." Rescuing animals very easily ups your heroism.
the amount of praise Hideo Kojima gets for the metal gear solid games almost seems like some people think he coded every line, modeled every character / vehicle and designed every level down to the blades of grass. Give the others at Konami credit. Without making this 2 pages long. Hideo's talent was wasting time and money, we got an incomplete game because of him. He'd be still working on it until Konami went bankrupt. We were left with empty barren wastelands that are dull and lifeless when the missions are over, I'm not expecting to play bowling with my cousin or anything. The bosses were lazy and uninspired, some small details are great but he took it to a whole new level only people on a certain spectrum would notice. Mother base could have been just cut scenes, ground zero was a demo that could have easily been part of MGSV and so many people grew up with metal gear solid that are in the gaming industry right now that will take what Konami's TEAM created and outdo themselves with or without the most over rated developer who ever lived. I think it's just fun for seals to say Kojima. It rolls off the tongue.
After my first playthrough I never gave Paz the last photo again. It's sorta like a way to keep her in Venom's memory to me. Once he finds out the truth, the room is just quiet and empty. It's sorta messed up. I get it but I don't want to put him through that again. It's sad to see her but it's also a way to keep her "alive". There's so many small details in this game that can be missed on the first playthrough because of the pace of the game. It's a great game but a lot if people only talk about how it's incomplete.
The fact that people hate so much on Huey when in actuality it was all Kaz doing, is to me one of the greatest plot twists in V and a well hidden one, but when you put all pieces together its obvious.
There is narrative reason why would Venom Snake become bloody after violent playstyle. Fragments of his original psyche gets through, and as a medic he is not keen on killing, so eventually he begins to see him self as demon; bloody skin is basically hallucination caused by guilt that he cant explain to himself. It is also theorized that reason why he have hallucination of Paz is because of his guilt for not being able to save her, but again he can't explain this to himself. So yeah, Venom Snake is definitely one of the most tragic video games character.
@mynameisNeo369 yeah he provided the voice for Leon in RE6 and some of the CG movies too as well as Chrom and Ryoma from Fire Emblem and Ganondorf from Tears of the Kingdom, to name a few.
Recently watching MGS videos again and damn, I didn't knew some of the things, such as the paz missions being a hallucination and the whole theory around GZ :O ! Nice video!
Nailed some good ones. Tanker - Plant in MGS2 was the exact same scenario The player's Tanker mission was Raiden's VR training of the Tanker, manipulated to hell and back. And the Plant mission is a video game recreation of the plant mission a kind of VR from The Patriots for the players. like when the code starts coming through the walls at the end. 4th wall broken. Turn off the game Raiden. So they did it again in V, but instead of VR recreations. I think both games in TPP are Venom remembering his life in his last moments. That's why it's so dreamy and has the effects it does. All the therapy manipulation seeping through like the code. The saddest part about this theory is Venom's first memory was his manipulation to become Big Boss, and how he died believing his own lie sold to him by The Patriots.
Wow, this is one of the best videos on MGSV I've seen yet. With that being said, I have a couple of points: -I consider the Paz side quest the true Episode 3, acting as an appropriate epilogue in place of what we never got, plus with the dramatic irony being closure for the audience but not Venom -That quote about "No truths, only interpretations" in Mission 47 adds a whole nother Orweillian layer to the narrative, as Ishmael's behaviors, model properties, and even that he never bled and that he was unconscious; I never put two and two together that Psycho Mantis had an influence on the opening and mission 47 -I never hopped on the Huey hatred band-wagon (he's still bad), and it feels good to be vindicated with the bits confirming Miller's ulterior motives ("Eyes on Kazuhira") -The Medic seems to be modeled after Kiefer Sutherland, which is a nice touch all things considered -The bit you mentioned on Quiet secretly knowing the truth about Venom makes perfect sense as to why she never unleashed the vocal cord parasite, and it also changes the vibe of MGSV completely to psychological thriller to one big joke that you're not in on, while not taking away from the thriller aspect at all.
Regarding Venom's hair being shorter, that seems to be inconsistency or kojima intended venom to remember things wrong. Venom has the longest mullet in mgs game. That is seen on the hospital segment, its very long. Also when Venom ties up his hair, the ponytail length matched his hispotal hair length. Afterall, he seemed to not have time for trimming his hair as they were in a hurry to rescue kaz, cutscene shows him ponytailing his hair as well before reaching Afghanistan. Don't know why the Bandanna mullet of Venom is so short, its almost as short as mgs4 snakes hair just a bit puffier. Edit: Heroism doesnt necessarily reduce demon points either. But some actions that raise heroism does reduce demon points.
You: "Venom snake isn't a reliable narrator of the story" I never would have guessed that the guy with a gigantic piece if shrapnel in his skull and brainwashed could be messed up in the head :3
Soon as it was found Eli was not a DNA match that was what completely 100% convinced me he wasn't the real big boss. I sort of assumed from the beginning of the game that the real big boss was the bandaged up guy purely because he also had Keifer Sutherland as a voice actor.
I didn’t get to really play these games when I was younger(the original metal gears) and I tried jumping into phantom pain when I was in high school. But since my dumb kid brain was just like “I wanna go boom boom and not listen to the story” I’ve been thinking about trying to play Metal gear solid V and phantom pain again. Because I’m interested in snake eater for when it comes out! What do I need to know to get into these games? Also around 2:33 he says you can see your avatar? Am I missing something, because I don’t see it
For the avatar higher your brightness, it should be in the helicopter reflection but abit hard to see, in game its easier. In terms of the story, imo start of with snake eater or the "Delta" remake, then go to peace walker, then V GZ & PP. Thats the stories chronological order.
Well, if you take on count that fact that you creating your own avatar, then you see not your avatar but "Big Boss" face in mirror in the beginning it's a plain sight foreshadowing of true Venom Snake's identity is pretty not obvious and is really good implemented in game. Like, i didn't even suspect something until i saw a other side of pictures of crew with "Good luck, Equelium" in 60 mission.
What they should've done in the opening mission and the post game hospital mission. In the opening mission, Ishmael should've been invisible via hallucination, and you hear the Boss's voice guiding you through the mission since Venom had the memories of big boss implanted in his head, once he finally regains conciciousness, all the memories start surfacing now hes awake and the first important memories of big boss (the boss's teachings) startz teaching him then and there, which could also be a tutorial for the player. Then when do mission 50"something" it was revealed all of the lines of the boss you heard where actually Ishmael the whole time word for word.
Bro, 1-in Ground Zeroes you play as the real Big Boss. It is in its ending that the soldier gets the burn from the explosion, hence the coma and surgery in TPP... 2- ISHMAEL is in fat Big Boss. He felt responsible for the fake Big Boss/Venom decoy idea so he assists you when you wake up then he leaves, leaving you to establish the fake target for Skullface. 3- Kaz was and IS AGAINST the idea of fake Big Boss/Venom. When he learned about it he felt betrayed and left on the corner as he had no say in the matter and was ignored (the only ones who knew about the Venom idea were Big Boss, Major Zero and Ocelot)
In hindsight this game isn't "bad" but rather a supplement to add to the overall yet vague storytelling of MGSVPP. I'm going to reinstall and play this yet again on my new pc and soak it in the way real fans of MGS should. the game is left to interpretation of the player for a reason giving its phantom nature. MGSVPP gets slept on and misunderstood but now I understand that's the point. its a love letter to those who dig deeper and thanks to this video I'm giving it a chance a whole 9 years later. I'm actually embarrassed to call myself a "OG" fan after watching this. Thanks for that lmao I guess. Well done
One of the scenes I just found out in the game that sort of fleshed out the details after peace walker was Huey and doctor strange love who killed herself because of skull face was trying to force her to make an ai in a different way then what she wanted and the fact that her child was taken from her who was huey son Hal aka octocon really tragic and traumatized for life Huey was to see her off herself and their was nothing he could do to stop it! I see why he was so mean to Hal growing up that dude needed therapy after leaving mother base. The events would drive any normal person nuts!
10:00 Correction. While that second voice clip is somewhat more dubious (even though I still don't think it sounds much like Robin), that first voice is DEFINITELY Matt Mercer. Compare it to one of his other flatter-voiced roles, like Cooper from Titanfall 2. It's practically the same voice. As for the Twitter like... as far as I'm concerned, I don't feel like that's enough evidence to imply confirmation. The people who work on games as obtuse lore-wise as MGSV love to encourage speculation. That like could just as well have been Robin trying to send the theorists in the wrong direction.
"This isn't Snake's head" That's just Kiefer Sutherland's face. Also, the helicopter used by DD and XOF is a UH-60 Blackhawk, something that was still undergoing trials when PW takes place, hence why the helicopter in PW is a Hind D
Demon points have nothing to do directly with heroism. Demon points and heroism points are tracked separately and their exact mechanics and thresholds are very well understood at this point. The effect doesn't make you easier to spot either.
My first playthrough I just assumed Ishmael was like Reznov from Black Ops. I just wonder how a 90% paralyzed Venom managed to fend off pre parasite Quiet by himself. Mantis channeling off of Venom makes a lot of sense
I think it is more likely that Big Boss set Quiet on fire because he doesn't have a lighter later on. He lit and threw his Zippo at Quiet, that's why he doesn't have one. The reason both Big Boss and the guy in the hall change when you change Boss's character model, that isn't lore. That's just a programming shortcut.
MILLER was always a traitor, the whole metal gear solid V saga was about Big Boss getting rid of Miller and skull face, after realizing he was used by "Major Tom" and after getting psychological independence from "The Boss", Big Boss got his own mind by choosing his own destiny, that´s also why he is a vilain, because he does his will, and also that´s a matter of perspective, still can´t decide who is better Jack or David, Big Boss or Snake, both are great characters, and that speech of big boss about "the times makes you a hero or a villain" at the end of peace walker is very deep and very true
2:35, they actually covered it up nicely by saying because of the explosion at Mother Base and shrapnel on his head, the language part of his brain got damaged, which is why "Big Boss" can't remember how to speak Russian
Kaz siding with Skull Face is baseless speculation. MSF was his dream, his life's ambition, he wanted to create a mercenary army that the world could rely on, that impoverish countries that couldn't not afford to maintain a standing military, would be able to hire for their protection and to fight on their behalf. The idea that Kaz will flush all of that down the toilet makes zero sense. Also, his voice on the cassette tapes is a common theme in games, actors often voice multiple characters to cut down on casting costs.
Kaz ile Skullface'in ortak çalışmış olması çok mantıklı geliyor. Böylelikle GZ mother base'de kolaylıkla girmiş olmaları anlaşılıyor(ekstra olarak). Komplo içinde komplo en sevdiğim.
0:37 probably a developer oversight that you can call a supply drop there and have the items appear in the room, but the fact that the room is physically impossible is definitely intentional.
It would've been easier to teleport you somewhere else. Swapping the room out in-place is so much harder when you consider how much goes on in mother base with the soldiers, artillery, vehicles, animated objects, etc. There's no way it wasn't done intentionally, pretty much
@@OmegaRC59 its not exactly hard though, since the game uses occlusion culling just as much as any other game, they could just set the room to not render unless a specific flag is set
@@lukabrasi001 it's not the rendering that would be the hard part, it's all the random conversations, audio, etc, that you would have to make sure get silenced. Being too far away to hear any of that would more easily solve all of those problems without needing to explicitly program stopping all that shit. But that's not the solution they chose, they chose to keep you right in that spot and disable everything else around you. So that's why I said it's the harder solution. Any way for the soldiers to start speaking again or exterior MB audio to play would immediately break the illusion a bit
actually in the beginning. when Ishmel gets the gun first. he actually does kill a guard. this is before you get a gun. right after volgen attacks the helicopter
Really I wish more game developers would take cues from creators like Kojima. MGS has a deeper story than many classic novels. Nothing is surface level with this guy
Venom Snake only has flashback of Paz, no Zero, The Boss, Ocelot or even Kaz. Cold war is coming to an end but the story's gone darker compare to Peace Walker, everyone is filled with rage, hatred, revenge

"Facts do not exist, only interpretations" - that is the quote the game opens with, my dudes! 😊
Giant walking robots
The realisation that Ground Zeroes game is also experience as one of Venom Snake's induced hypnotherapy memory is just so unbelievably mind-blowing
never seen that theory until now and it sounds as dumb as that "tanker incident is played by raiden in vr" theory
Its been 9 years boss
"I'm afraid it's been 9 years"
why are we still here?
Just to suffer!
Please try not to panic
The Paz room and the final tape is such an unmissable missable part of the story.
nah fr
Nah it is. Can be missed. I had to go back to see it.
I didnt even know it was there until the end of the game
Ishmael will shoot. You just have to be slow. You can't complete the mission with no kills unless he does.
@@MatthewJamesMullin Ahh yep no worries, thanks for letting me know!
3:43 blood of my enemies ? Nah that’s just me after taking 100 hits by my enemies
Emmerich".
100%. Even Kaz called him that in MGSV.
Im gonna be honest, i'm kind of with Konami on 4, he did went overboard and too big of himself
@@XOFInfantryman yea I agree. 4 was weird and all over the place.
It's bizzare when you consider how small the budgets actually were relative to the amount of money konami was raking in from him anyway
@@WayStedYou yea apparently the Konami leadership changed and they decided to just stop spending money on games and focus on pachinko machines instead
I rather choose a perfect masterpiece even it takes a century.
i knew all em but a nice refresher nonetheless
note 1, this video reminded me of when i crafted the water pistol and then forgot to bring it to the volgin mission
note 2, i initially thought the v stood for vengeance before hearing that it stood peace and victory, as kaz is pissed off and vengeful, venom bears a vengeful connotation, and "v has come to" made more sense to me as "vengeance has arrived" seeing how kaz and venom have woken up seeking revenge for their old base
That isnt true tough. Ive got a couple 100k heroism, and dont get max horn by making a nuke
You havent played the game admit it.
Being demon snake makes you visible by an extra 5m
@@George_the_gun_walkerBeing covered in blood does, not being Demon Snake.
Kojima is so good that even an unfinished game is still packed with little details.
So no take on the mission the man who sold the world?? I'm surprised cuz it throws out alot of Ismael being fake...
@@nabieladrianI think he meant that it was a memory of big boss but twisted by venom's head. Meaning that it was, in fact, big boss during the GZ
I noticed a lot of inconsistencies but I feel like the theories requires WAY too much mental gymnastics so I just ignore them.
POV: You're in 6th grade English class and the teacher calls on that one kid who sits in the back and doesn't know how to read
One of the reasons why Big Boss needed ocelot to light his cigar was because he threw the lighter at Quite.
Ground zero is the real big boss yall trippin
Nope literally shows you proof in the video
2:28 it’s amazing what you can dangle in an audience face without them spotting the twist, myself included
Wow, I never knew about the shadows or reflections of my character. This game is nuts! Can't wait for more Easter eggs.
Will be making another video so stay tuned
@@Seelenschwert088 Episode 46 - the truth/man who sold the world was done badly. I have trust issues with that mission.
@@xerberus3337honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if that lone flower was from the Big Boss
It could have been induced into his mind by "The Third Child" (Mantis) during his coma or something (he was out of it for 9 years after all)
those different versions can be explain with venom snake having false memories
omg i never knew about the shadow.. jesus every MGS from 2 on up just has literally endless amounts of details, easter eggs, unique interactions that you can play all the games for hundreds of hours on end and ALWAYS find something new and interesting. the creative lengths they go to really highlight why video games can be so awesome and why Kojima games in particular have a soft spot for anyone who has ever played one.
After all this time, I am still sad that David Hayter couldn't voice Snake one more time, and remains Kojimas biggest blunder
Kiefer fits an older Big Boss
@@JuriSins nah, not really. He fits for Venom Snake as Big Boss, but not the overly talkative and grand Big Boss. Man's too silent to be THE Big Boss
I feel like him voicing Ishmael would be perfect, with him continuing to voice Naked Snake in the "secret" scenes
chapter 3 is our phantom pain...
0:20 bro, can this dude be the protag of MG Survive?
Gee, I don't know...
No, undoubtedly it is.
@@Gabriel-all I literally just agreed with you-
@@itsyoboisus2848 ah, Sorry, my bad
Nope, even disregarding a joke of a plot Survive is, the Main Protagonist of that game is implied to be one of the KIA/MIA staff during the attack on Mother Base. These soldiers are MIA during a mission and were not present during the initial attack.
Also, their design sucks ass, their uniform in Peace Walker was perfection and didn't need to he changed
Wow. Thats pretty sad that Snake imagined paz and the missing soldiers even though thats not the real big boss. Poor Venom. They really messed with his head.
@0:58 dude I panicked for a second hearing that call
If i dont think about this game for a while, i get chills when i do
Havent heard the “Ishmael because of Mantis” idea before but it makes a lot of sense.
I actually learned early on that if you wanted to balance out your demon points, just load up on on tranq hear and take "hunting trips." Rescuing animals very easily ups your heroism.
I can’t believe I’m still finding out new details about this game
the amount of praise Hideo Kojima gets for the metal gear solid games almost seems like some people think he coded every line, modeled every character / vehicle and designed every level down to the blades of grass.
Videos like this just remind me that I still don’t know anything about Metal Gear even though I’ve been playing the games for more than 20 years.
The fact that people hate so much on Huey when in actuality it was all Kaz doing, is to me one of the greatest plot twists in V and a well hidden one, but when you put all pieces together its obvious.
the fact that Huey is a piece of shit canonically doesn't help... never forget Strangelove and her pod
Great video!
I have a random fact:
There's a statue of The Boss on her horse outside the hospital in the prologue
I had no idea thats crazy!
The voice on the Paz torture tapes is Matt Mercer, Kaz's voice actor is Robin Atkin Downes.
THE matt mercer..??
Leon Kennedy?
@mynameisNeo369 yeah he provided the voice for Leon in RE6 and some of the CG movies too as well as Chrom and Ryoma from Fire Emblem and Ganondorf from Tears of the Kingdom, to name a few.
@@howwesurvive767 yeah I'm just surprised I didn't catch it was him, I love resident evil also. Thanks for pointing that out!
@@howwesurvive767Levi from Attack on Titan, too.
Recently watching MGS videos again and damn, I didn't knew some of the things, such as the paz missions being a hallucination and the whole theory around GZ :O ! Nice video!
I absolutely didn't remember that the real Volgin's face would show up in the game.
Nailed some good ones.
Tanker - Plant in MGS2 was the exact same scenario
The player's Tanker mission was Raiden's VR training of the Tanker, manipulated to hell and back.
With that being said, I have a couple of points:
-I consider the Paz side quest the true Episode 3, acting as an appropriate epilogue in place of what we never got, plus with the dramatic irony being closure for the audience but not Venom
-That quote about "No truths, only interpretations" in Mission 47 adds a whole nother Orweillian layer to the narrative, as Ishmael's behaviors, model properties, and even that he never bled and that he was unconscious; I never put two and two together that Psycho Mantis had an influence on the opening and mission 47
-I never hopped on the Huey hatred band-wagon (he's still bad), and it feels good to be vindicated with the bits confirming Miller's ulterior motives ("Eyes on Kazuhira")
-The Medic seems to be modeled after Kiefer Sutherland, which is a nice touch all things considered
-The bit you mentioned on Quiet secretly knowing the truth about Venom makes perfect sense as to why she never unleashed the vocal cord parasite, and it also changes the vibe of MGSV completely to psychological thriller to one big joke that you're not in on, while not taking away from the thriller aspect at all.
I think venom sees Ishmael as the original medic if u showed us but the original snake sees him as a double gänger
I feel like I'm watching a video essay on Fight Club
Excellent video, very packed with useful information
Hero of Sinnoh, awesome video I really liked it
Glad you you enjoyed!
You: "Venom snake isn't a reliable narrator of the story"
I never would have guessed that the guy with a gigantic piece if shrapnel in his skull and brainwashed could be messed up in the head :3
P.S. I started to suspect that V is not a Big Boss when i saw a cutscene where Burning Man attacked V but fall on the ground in Afghanistan.
One thing is for sure. 9 years later and i have barely scratched the surface.
Bro,
1-in Ground Zeroes you play as the real Big Boss.
The events would drive any normal person nuts!
strangelove didnt kill herself. its what he claimed, but in the audio tape, she called out to him and urged him to open the door.
punctuation isn't optional. Also, Huey killed Strangelove. No mystery there.
10:00
Correction.
I interpreted Volgin scene as him looking at Venom's "soul" and realizing it's not the same person. Since we also see that Venom's appearance changes.
"This isn't Snake's head"
That's just Kiefer Sutherland's face.
This game is a trip on so many levels
I think it is more likely that Big Boss set Quiet on fire because he doesn't have a lighter later on. He lit and threw his Zippo at Quiet, that's why he doesn't have one. The reason both Big Boss and the guy in the hall change when you change Boss's character model, that isn't lore. That's just a programming shortcut.
And I thought all of MGSV secrets have been uncovered, great work on the video.
Going from Battlefront to MGSV, Sinnoh does not miss
2:44 do you know Venom is not Big Boss right? Venom is a "Double", which explains why SOLID Snake fights him twice.
Honestly Ishmael's face looks more like Kiefer Sutherland if you took a lot of the detail out tbh
5:40 if you wait long enough he does shoot them both.
Yeah most people get this wrong
5:40 if u wait long enough he actually takes both of the enemies out
actually in the beginning. when Ishmel gets the gun first. he actually does kill a guard. this is before you get a gun. right after volgen attacks the helicopter
I cant believe Sam Stranding was actually Troy Baker the whole time
Really I wish more game developers would take cues from creators like Kojima. MGS has a deeper story than many classic novels. Nothing is surface level with this guy
Would be cool if a mod adds the full demon snake/skull appearance as a unlock for 100,000 DP
FNAF lore ain’t got nothing on Kojima. That man is crazy.
Venom Snake only has flashback of Paz, no Zero, The Boss, Ocelot or even Kaz. Cold war is coming to an end but the story's gone darker compare to Peace Walker, everyone is filled with rage, hatred, revenge
It's literally a different voice actor who did the "Give her the shot already" line. Listen closely, it's similar, but it's not Robin.
Great vid mate
Bro I never knew you could’ve played music to get the ex-soldiers to be passive
Ishmael does shoot if you wait long enough
MGSV is technically a game about nothing
Dude that shadow thing blew my mind
The classic ringing is my ringtone❤️
Imagine Kojima finished this game. This would be more awesome
I’ve never realized the horn grows become I’ve barely killed in this game
Still can’t get over it, I need an mgs6 directed by Kojima 😢
Guys, did you know that Ishmael can DIE in the initial sequence? And if it does die, the game over screen will show as "TIME PARADOX"? Found out just now!
