Instead of making a video i'll just comment here. This video was very helpful. I will say this: The list of tools needed to remove the alternator this special way is extensive. Some are mentioned in the video. But i'll list some must haves: 1 floor jack minimum 18" lift. Sturdy 6 ton jack stands. 6mm allen wrench. 8mm hex socket. 8 mm closed wrench to turn socket(slide over hex end) because a ratchet will not fit most times. Of course various socket sets, inspection mirror Instructions: 1)Disconnect battery and remove 2)Take off banjo bolt off top of cobra pipe and pull other end out of tubing 3)Remove breather hose from valve cover push aside 4)Remove top engine mount yoke with slight lift on engine 4a)Now jack engine higher 5)Remove belt from 3 pulleys 6)Remove pulley with 6mm allen wrench 7)Remove pulley 13mm wrench 8)Remove tensioner 8mm hex socket 9)Remove 2 wires off alternator(13mm, 8mm) 10)Remove 2 alternator bolts 8mm hex socket 11)pry alternator out of bracket set on axle 12) remove entire mounting bracket(4 bolts 13mmIIRC) 13)wiggle, force alternator out with ears facing intake manifold as stated in video. Be careful of plastic piping on fender wall. Engine should be jacked high enough to get out without trimming casting. 14) Reverse instructions It worked for me. Took me all day. Took 45 minutes to get wheel off. Frozen on hub.
Sadly, my replacement alternator(Napa power premium plus coded "RAY") failed. I have to do this all over again. Got a Bosch rebuilt this time from eeuroparts.
Great video. One suggestion, that 4th bolt can be removed without breaking the bracket. Just take the bolts out of the alternator and pry it out of the bracket, then you have access to the 4th bolt. Great job
Best damn video I have found. You did a great job explaining where others fell on their faces. Wish I found yours earlier. However will use use to put back together. thanks a million
take the two alternator bolts by lowering or rising the engine. than do the rest, it works fine but it takes all friking day. by the way very good video
A great job. Looks almost impossible and a great example why I have a love hate relationship with my Saab 9 5 - which currently has a dodgy alternator.
Uk version of this car is junk. Been struggling with this at work for a while. Video really helped me out though as its pretty much the same but cant take from the top because master cylinder is there along with load of other parts
