    I love your style. Your conversational style is so endearing. Your customers must love you. I was able to review this video and execute the same process on a 2005 Saab 9-5 Arc (less one banjo fitting on the intake). Replacement from Advance Auto Parts was $100 which included pump and lower hose. The work is mostly labor and saved me $700 in shop fees. I completely understand that an auto shop has to pay employees and make a profit. No argument from me. They deserve the labor fees they charge for all the hard work and call-back risk. But I'm handy, the car is old, I didn't want to spend $1000 replacing a water pump, and I had nothing to lose. Your experience was invaluable to getting the block o-ring seals replaced. I would not have noticed that without your video. Many thanks for doing the one-handed camera trick the whole time. It totally worked for me!

    I'm doing this job now. I have everything removed. A couple tips, I didn't remove the metal lines to the water pump. It took some finagling but I got her out. Also, the hard line that goes into the turbo intake can just be unmounted from the intake and swiveled upward. Awesome video brother. Subscribed!

    Thanks for the tutorial. I am about to tackle this job and I was able to identify the "trouble" spots. I am sure removing the torx head bolts from the pump housing on my Saab will be absolutely horrible. There may even be a few swear words invented during the process. The tip regarding the second large o-ring that seals the block was very helpful, Not being able to figure out where it went I would have tossed the third o-ring in a drawer and waited for leaks. Thank you for breaking the vacuum line fitting, I'll know to be careful. All joking aside, I appreciate you taking the time helping other Saab hackers such as myself.

    Thanks for the video! I just changed the water pump on a friend's 2003 9-5 and used your video to get an idea what I was up against. What we originally thought was the belt tensioner making noise ended up being the water pump that had completely disintegrated!

    Do you need to split the water pump? No way of avoiding it? Also, what seal should I use if I need to split the pump itself?
    Doing the same job on my 9-5 as we speak, and getting parts on Tuesday.
    Also, was the remaining 4 T30 bolts on the pump itself a pain to remove?
    Also, the banjo bolts on my 9-5 is sitting pretty tight, so any tips to that?
    Also, on a scale from 1-10, how was this job on a difficulty scale? Work as a mechanic on VW and Skoda, but have never seen such a weird and difficult solution to a water pump.
    Tips will be highly appreciated.

      Honestly I don't remember I did this about a year and a half ago. Look up the cost of the water pump and slap on an extra 20-30 dollars just in case you need crap that you didn't expect. (i.e. rusted bolts, o-rings,....)

    I just saw the same car with 110k miles and a leaking pump for a grand and I'm seriously considering it. Thoughts? If it lasts one year, thats about $90 a month. I can't find a $90 car payment.The pump is about $25 at Rockauto.com.

    Great video! I have managed to replace my water pump and some of the reassembling too, but I am having big trouble connecting the turbo intake pipe back! It looks like the AC/compressor is in the way so that I can't connect the pipe to the turbo again. Any ideas for what I have done wrong?

    • @AMetalWorks
      @AMetalWorks  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If I'm on the same page as you. It's a metal pipe. It may have been tweeked and needs to be bent back a little.

    • @Akselito16
      @Akselito16 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Alvarez Metal Works Exactly, managed to bend it back, thanks! But I discovered that my leakage of coolant fluid is coming from the banjo fitting to the pipe i just bent back. So my next question is, how many washers is there supposed to be on this banjo fitting? I think I only got one and that's why coolant fluid is leaking from my car.

    • @AMetalWorks
      @AMetalWorks  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Aksel Gustavsen Bøhn bolt, washer, tube/fitting, and another washer in that order.

    • @AMetalWorks
      @AMetalWorks  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Alvarez Metal Works Btw these are not normal washers. If you lost the other one then you need to get one. These are soft metal and are more of a gasket than a washer.

      Alvarez Metal Works I ended up purchasing a water pump, what was the issue you had with yours? (The new one) my water pump was about $100 I don't want to have to go through this job again lol understandably. • @sniperlif3
      @sniperlif3 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      mitchell todd However ALL Saab 9-5s use a hydraulic mount. Soooo. Idk what you are talking about. It is filled to a point that allows for very little movement under high torque, you should NOT be able to move the mount by hand in ANY hydraulic mount.
      I can use caps as well. At least mine is not random.

    I had a question about that water pump you did on the saab, did I notice a howling noise coming from the pump or was it just leaking, I had the the thermostat go out on my way to Vegas had to have it towed home and replaced it but I started to hear a noise coming from that area, it was about a year ago, but it seem the noise is getting a little later I just don't know where to start thx

    • @AMetalWorks
      @AMetalWorks  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Anthony Golden When this went out it broke. No warning at all. No noise until it broke. However I've done this job twice now. The second time it did make a noise but it wasn't a howling noise. If you have a howling noise that goes away after the car get's up to temp you might want to check out the oil pump. Mine is howling but goes away when it's warm. It's also not a hard repair if you have the right tools.

      If you guys have more than 3 o-rings I don't know what to tell you. In the video you can see where I put the 3 that came with my pump. I have no idea where a 4th would go. Something tells me there maybe a difference between years and or models of cars. Not sure what you guys are working on. If you didn't remove 4 o-rings then only replace the ones you removed...?

  • @KennethYu
    @KennethYu 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi! Thanks for the video. I'm trying to estimate the labor hour in which my mechanic would charge me, have you got any idea?

    • @AMetalWorks
      @AMetalWorks  11 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not a mechanic but I'd charge $300-$400 to do this on someone else's car. That would include the pump and I'd only warranty the install not the parts. It's not that it's hard. It just takes allot of time because you have to remove so much and put it all back together. Time is money and a skilled mechanic would still spend the better part of a day doing this job. Hope that helps. You also need to keep in mind we drive a not so common car so any mechanic that specializes in these cars will charge you accordingly for their experience dealing with them. Here in Syracuse there are a fairly decent amount of Saabs on the road. But back in AZ where I'm from you don't see hardly any of them. Places like that you'll have to expect to pay more. Hope that helps.

    how in the world do any of you get the intake pipe out? I've tried everything i can think of and it seems impossible to get it out the way it's wedged in between the turbo, water lines, and other parts down there. The lower section simply won't clear no matter what i try. :(
