This is one of 11 prehistoric hilltop enclosures (forts) that are known in Southern Illinois. They are believed to be dated to the Late Woodland and Early Mississippian period. The hilltop enclosure site is surrounded on three sides by a lake, allowing access only via one fairly narrow path to the top. Rubble from a wall that once restricted this one access point are still visible near the top of the bluff.
Note: Due to technical issues, drone flight was prohibited above 50 ft in altitude which was not ideal.
