SYNOPSIS
Absolutely! In "Shadows in Zamboula," Conan the Cimmerian ventures into the heart of the infamous city of Zamboula, where he becomes entangled in a web of sorcery and malevolent forces. As he navigates the labyrinthine streets, he discovers a city teeming with fear, its inhabitants terrorized by a mysterious horror controlled by the cruel and powerful innkeeper, Aram Baksh. Amidst this atmosphere of dread, Conan encounters a beautiful woman, Zabibi, forced to dance endlessly for her captor's sadistic pleasure. Drawn to her plight, Conan takes it upon himself to challenge Aram Baksh and his minions, diving headlong into the dark underbelly of Zamboula's treacherous alleys.

Chapter 1. A Drum Begins.
'Peril hides in the house of Aram Baksh!'
The speaker's voice quivered with earnestness and his lean, black-nailed fingers clawed at Conan's mightily muscled arm as he croaked his warning. He was a wiry, sun-burnt man with a straggling black beard, and his ragged garments proclaimed him a nomad. He looked smaller and meaner than ever in contrast to the giant Cimmerian with his black brows, broad chest, and powerful limbs. They stood in a corner of the Sword-Makers' Bazaar, and on either side of them flowed past the many-tongued, many-colored stream of the Zamboula streets, which is exotic, hybrid, flamboyant and clamorous.
Conan pulled his eyes back from following a bold-eyed, red-lipped Ghanara whose short skirt bared her brown thigh at each insolent step, and frowned down at his importunate companion.
'What do you mean by peril?' he demanded.
The desert man glanced furtively over his shoulder before replying, and lowered his voice.
'Who can say? But desert men and travelers have slept in the house of Aram Baksh, and never been seen or heard of again. What became of them? He swore they rose and went their way-and it is true that no citizen of the city has ever disappeared from his house. But no one saw the travelers again, and men say that goods and equipment recognized as theirs have been seen in the bazaars. If Aram did not sell them, after doing away with their owners, how came they here?'
'I have no goods,' growled the Cimmerian, touching the shagreen-bound hilt of the broadsword that hung at his hip. 'I have even sold my horse.'
'But it is not always rich strangers who vanish by night from the house of Aram Baksh!' chattered the Zuagir. 'Nay, poor desert men have slept there-because his score is less than that of the other taverns-and have been seen no more. Once a chief of the Zuagirs whose son had thus vanished complained to the satrap, Jungir Khan, who ordered the house searched by soldiers.'
'And they found a cellar full of corpses?' asked Conan in good-humored derision.
'Nay! They found naught! And drove the chief from the city with threats and curses! But-' he drew closer to Conan and shivered-'something else was found! At the edge of the desert, beyond the houses, there is a clump of palm trees, and within that grove there is a pit. And within that pit have been found human bones, charred and blackened! Not once, but many times!'
'Which proves what?' grunted the Cimmerian.

I would have loved to have had these when I was in middle school/high school. The language is much richer than what is given to students today.
You have done an enormously good job of breathing life into the stories of the greatest fantasy adventure hero of all time! Even the illustrations of the scenes surrounding the story is fantastically done. And the direct quotation from the original story-THANKS!!
I've read this story many times when l was young, l loved the Conan saga's. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I read most of the original conan stories, and I loved his prose and world building.
I am glad sword and sorcery is making a comeback somewhat.
I have almost finished a sword and sorcery type tale inspired by Robert E Howard's creation and Lee Child's Jack Reacher.
I hope to submit it to Savage Realms Monthly.
That was really an enjoyable reading! No sound effects, just the reader and the text. Thanks!
We're glad you enjoyed it :)
That was great, I have never heard or read conan but always heard good things! Can’t wait to hear more!
Welcome! Glad you're here :)
Watch the movie Conan the Barbarian. You'll love it
Thank you very much here's a sub and like 🎉
Thank you!
Might be Howard's best ending.
That strangle battle was awesome! I remember reading it, but hearing your narration of it was even better. Thanks for the great content, Nigel
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it :)
Awesome story
Agreed, love this narrator
Ty, i needed my fix. Not a fan of the other guys voices.
You're most welcome! (we won't tell the other guys 😅)
Outstanding tale friend great telling!
Another magnificent tail magnificently read
Thank you!
Excellent work
Thank you! Cheers!
I had all but given up hope that anyone would ever produce a Conan audio production worthy of the master writer and his brawling, carousing barbarian.
Your work is stunning. The work is read with the understanding and masculine prowess of a man that grasps the fury and wonder of hell raising adventure. I salute you, sir.
This is a dream come true, as "Shadows In Zamboula" is my absolute favorite of Howard's Conan shorts. My mouth now waters as I dream of your potential execution of my favorite Howard novella's, "The People of the Black Circle, "Red Nails", and "Beyond the Black River".
Again, thank you for your talent and your perspective on great literature.
Wow, thank you for the kind praise! By Crom, we will definitely consider those titles!
good
:)
Conan the Chimeran 😂
You mispronounce "Cimmerian"
There is debate about that... I provided a reference in a previous comment backing this version but it may come down to personal preference at this point.
I love reading, and listeng to these. I have a huge collection of old pulp novels...but I do cringe at the borderline racism in these. yes, it reflects feelings on race at the time, and Howard was never overtly racist, but its worth noteing.
Gay
The racism makes it real.
Agreed xD
No it’s not worth noting.
I think this just reflects your own views. You basically search for racism first and foremost.. American probably
I still have a few Conan comics and novels left but this story didn’t sound too PC to me in fact it was a bit too derogatory and demeaning and I’ve read a few Conan comics and loved them but this was very unsettling as a black person to listen to which says more about the script artist than it does anything else.
It's important to know that all of our productions stay true to the author's original text; we make no changes or omissions to their writing.
The fiery, Conan stories were written by a powerful, hell raising writer that produced these stories in a brawling, 1920s oil town. They are deliciously Barbaric tales to entertain and ignite the fires in the hearts of true men. No doubt they will, as they always have, distress the delicate sensibilities of "civilized", modern, mama's boys with tepid water rather than hot blood flowing through their milksop's veins.
Boo Hoo Hoo
Blacks 😂
Brown man 😂😂😂 why was Howard so racist?
Howard is way more PC than a lot of people from the 30s. 😂
Racism is natural. In this case it is nothing besides a fictional act of observation. You would have folks to be blind and not to notice nor to observe.
Besides that the word is ambiguous being used for a multiplicity of sundry phenomena.
Why is calling someone brown racist? Get the f#ck over it, it was the 1920s segregation was the law and would not get over turned until the nearly forty years later .
There are people these days who refer to them selves and others as black and brown “bodies.” At least Howard recognized people of other races/ethnicities as men and women so who is really racist?
The word "racist" has such vague definition as to mean many things. Is it "to hate irrationally"? Or is it "to observe characteristics"?
Liars and deceivers will shift from one definition to another in order to deceive or make a false impression on you.
