I have the STIHL KM131R and i love it an FS131R that folds into a smaller package and fits in your truck tool box and still have land clearing power it also runs other attachments like a pole saw up to a power sweep broom.

I have the fs250R and the KM131R. Ive had the 250 for 11 years and the 131 for 3 or 4 years. I live in rural San diego on 5 acres of slope. The whole 5 acres is done woth a stringtrimmer. Big boulders, hidden small sharp rocks everywhere. I love and use birth every season. If I were gonna get a new one tomorrow? Probably the 240.

I bought the fs56rce and I have never had to grease it or lube it it’s a good trimmer I recommend a speed feed head 450 or 400 you might have to change the cap on the speed feed when it pops out but you can replace the cap from Home Depot

I have the Stihl km 131 love it. Wow it has POWER! In thick weeds it has the power to break the .095 trimmer line right off at the trimmer head! Some say you can't use it to trim around delicate areas I have no problems in delicate areas around the house or near windows it has torque and power at low rpms.

I bought the fs131r and hated it like you said at the end of the video around the house, In delicate areas its dangerous and in the thicker grass it's slow the only advantage over the fs240r is its light weight. we run two fs240r use them around houses, cars, windows and then straight into paddocks I found the fs240r to be worlds above the fs131r. I was not a fan of the 4mix in fact you could say I found it useless around delicate areas and GUTLESS in long thicker grass

I have a 131R with probably close to 900 hours on it. No issues and i think its a monster. Had the 240R and it was not very good for me, way to heavy and slowed down each property by close to 3 mins. Not to include how unreliable the 2 stroke was for me.

    • @johnrus7661
      @johnrus7661 หลายเดือนก่อน

That does not make any sense, and I own and use the 130 (Slightly older version that is pretty much the same). And cut around delicate stuff all the time.
The 131 is a lighter more agile trimmer than the 240. It just is.
The 240 is the bigger heavier and more powerful option. It's really a brush cutter than if you were so inclined you could use it for regular trimming needs. But is it just grossly overkill for that.
131 for a lightweight all around trimmer, 240 for a power house beast.
I'll be adding a 240 for heavy duty stuff and my 130 for standard trimming duties.
      Best of both worlds.

i bought the fs 130 with bike bars new in June of 2013. Ive used this machine 3 to 4 times a week every week since that day and a lot of jobs it was pushed wide open or 3 or 4 hours at a time only stopping to refuel. ive cut acres of blackberries for days on end with the polycuts, used a three and four sided, die-grinder sharpened steel blade to cut brush that was suited for a commercial mulcher and ive used it for trimming hundreds of lawns including my own. Used it today for two hours in a half mile long drainage ditch grass as tall as me at the bottom. I swear by the echo brand diamond cut .105 string. It's strong to handle the torque but the .095 cuts better. It will cut lite grass at near idle with this string. ive replaced one carb and only washed the original air filter. havent done fuel lines or even a primer bulb..only bitch is the lack of throttle control. it's all or nothing with this thing. tell me this machine sucks, I DARE YA! It's a fucking monster hands down. I am currently looking to get a new trimmer and I will definatly check out the 240, but the 130 is already a gold star in my book.

Hello, and thank you for the VERY enthusiastic video. I'm not sure I've watched a person more into string trimming that you. Myself, I find it fun, yet soothing. You can probably "murder" way more grass per hour than I. You seem to slightly prefer the 240R. Let me ask, in your opinion, is the 240R worth the difference in price?

@@DiscoveringHisWay I don’t know another brand, maybe the Honda 4 stroke is like this but the Stihls are massively powerful. I used to own nothing but Redmax but then I purchased a FS90 and haven’t looked back. There’s nothing on the market that puts down the power like it does.
That said. There’s two things I don’t like. I don’t like the throttle acting like a light switch(on/off). All of mine are slightly finicky to start. My old Redmax, starts first /second pull, every time.

great information on this review! however it is inaccurate to say that the two-stroke engine is lighter when comparing engines of the same size. In general, a four-stroke engine tends to exhibit greater weight due to the presence of additional moving components such as the cam and timing gear.

The real reason they use a mix of oil and gas is because if they didn't they would have a reservoir of oil retained inside the engine and if you tilted it to the side to trim it could cause major damage from lack of oil.

I figure I should point out simply because I work there I work as a plate tank technician basically we put Chrome on stuff we actually do a lot of the steel Chrome work such as for the fuel injectors for some other newer products such asuch as the i500 for the chainsaws But we do the inlets the armatures as well for them For Jim so Chevy's GMC buicks we handle all their fuel injectors and lets as let's as well as the armatures and Poles which is basically a valve That need to be coated with Chrome because they get carbon build-up and that can cause problems so once you play it with calm you don't have to worry so much about carbon builder And that's what we do So basically it's pretty much the same shape and design it's like 1 or 2 differences that are pretty small versus the GM as well as the steel fuel injector is inlets and armatures Still this has a few extra pins I guess to block them in place and divets where the gems do not But I'm willing to bet you probably could take one out of the steel and put it in your car and it would run fine

The 240 is the newer version of the 250 with modern advancements. Both are great units!

I had a few 250's and in the long run 250 came out best. Easy to maintain and work on. I bought a new 240 and clamp bracket from motor to pole broke, then went back to 250.

Better still get an Alpina /Stiga with Former Mitsubishi and latter Kawasaki 2 Strokes, both have unbelievable reliability use a high quality fully synth 2t oil such as Castrol TT, change the plug and air filter regularly and they last forever.

FS131 provides plenty of power but one needs to use it at full power. If one tries to conserve fuel by running at 1/2 load or less then the lower rpms and torque is going to impact performance. The line provided on the head is also not the best for cutting performance and should be upgraded. For long periods of cutting the bicycle bar with the full harness is much easier to manage and I can pivot and cut a much wider arc than the R version. The throttle lever design is also different on the 131 with the bicycle handles.

What is the best line for the 131?

  • @rudolphhessian4183
    @rudolphhessian4183 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

4stroke is so heavy and uses alot of gas 2stroke 131 lighter more gas efficient. i have both. the higher rpms of 240 make it so you run out of cord fast, 131 is more usable with good results.

    • @martinklacansky3537

exactly , only very different person will buy 2 stroke nowdays. much more cable work , heavier and lounder . also carbon . very badly usable . 2 stroke is obsolete

You should mention that the FS240 not only weighs 3 pounds more it also sells for $680 versus $420 for the FS131. Might as well be comparing a Porche to a Miata. The real question for most people who are not clearing fields for a living is whether to buy the FS131 or the FS56 and whether to have a loop handle or the bike bars.

In Europe the FS131 is currently selling for $570 vs $630 RRP for the FS240.
Possibly this is because the FS131 won a prize as the best consumer level brush cutter and they bumped up the price.

    • @TheGuyWhoDidUrM0M

@@sirrathersplendid4825 yeah, the price went up and its now $480 USD here on our side of the pond.

I have an fs 56, great trimmer! it is not a brush cutter.
Gets hot, can’t feed the line out as long, can run a blade if you’re gentle.
I wish I had a 131 like hell I wish I’d spent an extra hundred or two hundred bucks.

240 and 131is overrated for trimming. Most commercial trucks in Florida don’t even have 131. They go with something smaller like the 111 110s 94,91. Honestly both of these are overrated for residential or commercial. The main reason commercial uses lighter stuff is so they can be quick they just change from machine to machine off the rack here in Florida. You wouldn’t see either one of those on a landscaping truck.

I have a 131 and I mainly just use it for the brush blade it’s great for cutting up thick vegetation that string either struggles or can’t cut through.
