Прекрасное-прекрасное Далёко(!), -- ... и так близко, так хорошо, явственно видимое и реально ощущаемое и осязаемое! Боже мой, ... слов нет описать это совершенство ... ! Great symphony, thank you! It is interesting that Svetlanov considered this symphony as his greatest achievement as a composer and he even wanted the 3rd movement to be played during his funeral...

Yes, I absolutely agree with you - hints of Rachmaninoff both in orchestration and figuration at times, and at other times I hear definite Shostakovich. They happen to be my two of my favourite composers!

The brassy start of the 3rd movement is highly reminiscent of the start of the 2nd movement of Glazunov's 8th symphony. This symphony overall belongs up there with those of the other Russian greats (Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, etc.)

Oh well, the Schubert Unfinished in that opening Allegro :) Even the orchestration is almost the same, with clarinet subbed for oboe.

I love how Svetlanov seems to reference Tchaikovsky's Symphony no. 6, as both first movements end in a funeral march in B major, with low pizzicato strings. And the 3rd movement is absolutely heavenly. Thank you for posting!!

Mengelberg , Paray, Mahler, Martinon, why not Svetlanov? All great conductors who also wrote symphonic music. I'm sure I have missed some others. Furtwangler is another one.

Wunderschöne Interpretation dieser neoromantischen und ethnisch komponierten Sinfonie mit farbenreichen doch perfekt entsprechenden Tönen aller Instrumente. Der letzte Satz klingt echt schön und auch überzeugend. Der intelligente und geniale Komponist/Dirigent leitet das hoch funktionelle Orchester in verschiedenen Tempi und mit effektiver Dynamik. Wahrlich hörenswert!
