Check out my new 5 year review on this VW T6 conversion and would I buy the same van again here: th-cam.com/video/_i0O7ZistKI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=l8QDFaYAcYRBVcgO
I recently fitted a cargo net across the back of the van so when I fold my bedding up the back doors can still be opened without the bedding falling out!
Hi ... just found your channel ... love the vides as well! Van looks amazing! Just wanted to offer your other viewers a little advice when looking for a company to purchase a van. It's clear you found a great company to work with and they sound like a really professional outfit. We were not so fortunate with our supplier (can't mention who they are I'm afraid) suffice to say the took £30k deposit last November and to date have delivered nothing other than a lorry load of BS! We're still hoping our van will one day emmerge but not holding my breath. My advice to anyone considering buying a campervan from conversions companies, make sure you ask for references ... speak to previous customers, check out the credentials of the company and if your gut tells you something's not right, go with your gut every time!
Love the lwb. Owned a swb which i sold to my son after my divorce. Am now settled and looking for another camper. After watching your video, I think i will look for a lwb like yours. Your conversion looks really professional. Very impressed. Enjoy your travels.
Nice build out, and great video! You are living the dream...also that pull out table looks great! You are absolutely correct about the heater being necessary. I rented a T4 Westy to tool around Japan with the wife last month. The heater saved us when the temps at 1000 meter elevation near Mt. Fuji dipped to zero Celsius!
Sat in a cottage on skye thinking about a camper van and then I come across this video, definitely want one now as I payed £760 for a week here a d could have seen so much more and saved a fortune in a camper van
Got similar setup in our Van, Murray. You may already know this - but I just learned that the freezer compartment in these fridges is removable, and gives much more space in the fridge if needed. Thanks for the tour :)
Good to have a gander at your home from home, looks very well made to your exact requirements that a ready-made California wouldn't be. I think you should call it Hugh after Sir Hugh Munro and you have HG in the registration. Thanks Murray.
Nice one Murray, Perfect basecamp . The T6 is the very van that i would love to have . Good to see a tour of one of these vans , your van is very nice and i enjoyed that mate . Maybe one day i'll get one hopefully ..cheers Stevie
Best through the keyhole I’ve ever watched, thanks for sharing, “have I mentioned the plug/electricity/hooky up thing “ for the third time actually was both funny and very endearing. Bloody good “off the cuff” video.
Thanks Murray for the tour, l loved having a nosey 😁 lts so nice and streamlined, lots of room and storage too for your trips. I must say that's a great bed arrangement and it looks so comfy. Looked like Thomas Heaton hanging from the ceiling ? The tent looks amazing too. Thanks again for sharing your wee home from home. Take care Alioban x
Great video enjoyed that. I’m just getting interested in camper vans myself and found your vid informative. I’m a big lover of Scotland too so nice to hear the accent and see the lovely scenery in the background 😁
Thanks for the van tour Murray. This is the van I intend to buy in about 5 years once I’ve done like you and saved up for one. They’ve been on my bucket list for years.
Your van looks super comfy and swish...we could have done with one...in my other life...I wish you the best so you can enjoy it for a long time to come🚐🌍🌄😁✨
Nice video, thank you Murray. We have a VW California, but I do like the extra bit of space you have with the long wheelbase. We are just back from a trip to the Outer Hebrides - fabulous blue skies and turqoise seas. The Scottish Highlands and Islands are my second home, but living on the South coast of England it is a fair old trek up there - but worth it. Incidentally, you might want to invest in a wind out awning, great when its raining. You can have the door open with no rain coming in.
Just come across this video and your channel and really enjoyed the tour. That van has travelled a few miles, HG is a Dorset registration, I’m guessing that it was sold by Breeze in Poole. It’s a lovely build. On the subject of wheels, mine had 20” wheels on when I bought it and I have swopped them for 17” with BFG All Terrain tyres, the ride is lovely and smooth now, especially on some of Dorset’s back roads. Enjoy your van and outdoor life. 👍
Thanks Mark - I think I will be going for smaller wheel and bigger tyres next time for sure :) I think the company that did the conversion get their VW campervans from a larger dealership near Liverpool that sells them from all parts of the UK (if memory serves me right :) Thanks for watching ATB Murray
Wow , and what a lovely vehicle Murray. I know these are expensive, a friend of mine has the 4motion version and travels to the alps for skiing in it. Anyway, thank you so much for talking us through it - and enjoy.👍
Thanks Jamie, they are expensive but if you get the use out of them they are brilliant, never regretted loosing all my savings to buy this -:) take care and thanks for watching Murray
Thank you for the tour, Murray - was great to see! I'm green with envy! Also envious of your turquoise and black trousers - so yes clothing and gear reviews would be ace! As for a name for your van, maybe The Brocken Spectre? Love the phrase, and as it's your van, it's part of you :)
Hi Murray, great video, must be nice and cosy on wild windy Scottish night, hope you're knee is feeling better, keep up the good work, looking forward to seeing you're next adventure, thanks Alistair.
Jerba are walking distance from us. Good gear but big waiting list. Our van is from Newcastle. Very similar to yours but T6. 1 in blue SWB. Really great video Murray! ❤️ We did the tailgate, you buy uprated pistons, very simple to do and videos on TH-cam show you how...
Hi Murray just found your website whilst googling VW s .Im a pom living in Sydney 6 years now and planning to get a VW camper. I had one in the UK and miiss that. I love Aus but there are things about the UK that I miss,of course. I love your videos and yes,the VW camper storries are of particular interest so please keep them coming where appropriate.

Hi great van and conversion, I envy you I wanted one for years. I think one review every so often would be good, I watched your channel for ages and I already like what you do. Thanks for your review of your van it’s made me think of one.
Hi Murray very interesting video we had never considered one of these vehicles until we saw yours however as we are both OAP s and we only have a small driveway which is just big enough for our car it's not a probability it's a lovely vehicle and we wish you lots of happy trouble free mileages in the future
Great stuff, Murray... and a lovely van. Another vote for the odd kit review vlog here, too . Hope the physio is still working for the knee... better do my exercise routine now!
That was a very useful review of your camper. Currently I have a caravan. This is great if you are staying anywhere for a reasonable length of time. I like to get up to Scotland three or four times a year and living on the south coast of England it costs a bomb and takes a lot of time and concentration to bring a caravan. I was interested that you found your camper suitable for longer stays as well as the more obvious short trips. That tent arrangement seems to provide the extra space that would be really useful if you were staying for several days. Regarding other topics then I would be interested in how you plan what walks to do, direction in which to take them and why (eg best views, interesting route), which ones would be good for a high level camp and that sort of thing. All in all I really appreciate the detail you go into in your videos. I remain impressed at the quality of your videos. You go to such a lot of effort to set up the camera and show clips walking towards or away from it. Generally these clips are more interesting and informative because you can see what’s going on clearly. The complete opposite is when some TH-camrs zoom around far too quickly or they have the action camera on their head and they are scrambling and the result is not particularly pleasant. Anyway this was a worthwhile video to make and I look forward to the occasional video on different topics. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Murray. So peaceful watching all your videos be it on the tops or even just parked up! I lived in the Highlands, up near Forres for a few years, about half a century ago. Your trips bring back lots of good memories of being out and about on the hills with rucksack and tent. So greetings from Australia and thanks for the memories!
Always interesting to see a van tour and having a T6 myself interesting to see different set ups (I also went for the big wheels 😂😂grrr) so thanks for that Murray👍🏻. Fannies comment spot on. Route planning and kit reviews all sound good. Hope the knee continues to improve so you can attack the mountains again.
We really enjoyed this tour Murray, very nice van you have there, and the conversion is so well done. We would love one😊. Nice to see you out enjoying the van after all those years of saving and car camping. ATB Shell and Pete
Thanks Folks - a bit of old age creeping in too - not sure my aching bones would allow me to clamber into the boot of the car so easily nowadays !!lol the camper van makes it alot easier for access!lol Take care and thanks for watching Murray
Nice van and a very timely vlog, I took the plunge and got a used California a just a few weeks ago, not been out in “anger’” yet but looking forward it and your right about the big wheels big tyre combo, it looks great ;)
Nice one Gary - hope to see you out and about in your new VW camper :) enjoy the van - I love mine - so much luxury now :) take care and thanks for watching Murray
Just subscribed - very enjoyable and informative vlog as I have just purchased a Wildax Triton campervan. Looking forward to hints and tips as to how to get the most out of it.
thank you - I never take it for granted - we are so lucky with the landscape and access laws up here - hope it never changes Thanks for watching ATB Murray
It was a very informative tour. I am hoping to do my own conversion this year whilst working and going away to the outdoors. It gave me a good few ideas
Hi Murray. Great video. We have a T6 conversion - did it with Caledonia Campers in Glasgow. re the tailgate. You can upgrade the pistons quite simply so that they hold up the tailgate even when loaded with bikes. Ours will hold up two bikes on the back and stay open above our heads.
Thanks Brian , I will need to investigate upgrading the pistons in the tail gate of the camper - good to hear it can be down though Take care and thanks for watching Murray

The van completely changes things and adds some really welcome treats when you’ve been out for a while. 100% on the heater we too wouldn’t be without one, a real bonus! Handy having that wee cupboard for the loo. One of the long wheelbase benefits. Ours has become a footSTOOL 🧻 💩..when not in use!! Lol. 😂👍
Hi Folks - couldn't agree more - love my van and the heater is a god send after a wet cold adventure :) Looking forward to your next adventure Take care Murray
It was interesting to see how your van was. You ask at the End if we/I would like more like this. No. Not anymore reviews of gear. Mostly I’ve got the gear I need, and are out in a different type of environment. However, I would like some insight on how you plan and prepare your hikes. Thanks for taking us along on your adventures!
Hi when you showed the grill you didn't have the slide out metal heat deflector pulled out,I only mention it as it's not obvious and you can damage the work surface above.love the van and your right about the wheels as my 17 plate has original vw 16 inch wheels and I dealy wanted big alloys but luckily I stuck with the original which also are a better ride on our potholed roads . Love the van regards Chris
Thanks Chris - good point about the heat deflector - something I have forgotten about in last and already had heat on the worktop - doh ! Thanks for watching Murray
Yep great vid. Really thought you'd bought the van as factory VW camper as looks so good. This is definitely route we will go down 2nd hand van conversation as can't afford new van. Deffo needs off road tyres grr grrr 🤣 yes to more of these vids
I love a good van video! I've got van envy as well! 😋 That aside, I've just watched your 4 previous videos just now as well. I was well behind on watching. Anyway, I enjoyed them all. Glad progress is being made with the knee as well.
Love these vans but I'll have to stick to cramming my 6ft 2" frame into the back of my Ford Focus for the time being. Thanks for the van tour me owd cocka 🤙🙂
That was super interesting. Having seen bits and pieces of your van inside ,it was nice to get the full tour I’ve always thought how welcoming and safe you must feel after spending the day on a mountain in all kinds of conditions to come back to your van. All the bells and whistles makes it even more comfortable…always wondered about the toilet facilities and now we know..very private Well done tour and I thoroughly enjoyed it 🚐🇨🇦❤️
Absolutely love mine, I can see the value of the longer wheelbase for that extra cupboard. I went with short because of the roads and mobility like you. I’ll be heading north again soon, normally avoid due to the dreaded midge. But May give it a go to have the longer days. Would be nice to meet up with fellow van lifer/walker/ photographer
Hi Murray you mentioned the cycle rack on the tailgate making it heavy to otherwise stay up on it own. I know this video is probably old now but to tell you know I have the caddy camper and VW provide two hard supports which clip on to the hydraulic arms which hold up the tailgate when ave the awning on the back or cycle rack too. So I would think they would provided something similar for the T6. Drew
Beautiful van , we are in the process of saving for ours now. Just out of interest, the long wheel base , does that give you a longer bed on the pop top ? 😊👍🏼
Hi - TBH I am not 100% sure but think it does :) I have a 5 year review video coming up in the coming weeks which may be of interest :) Thanks for watching ATB Murray
So weird. I was at a camper van showroom today in Glasgow because of you!! Just trying to work out how to afford it 😁 wondering if I could use as my company car??
And here I am with a bouldering mat and some insulation velcroed to my windows to block the sun 😢 Awesome van mate, someday ill be able to afford similar.
at least you have insulation velcroed in - my days of car camping had none of that (and no privacy - always wondered if anyone peered in when I was sleeping!!lol take care and thanks for watching Murray
Hi Darren - I got these from Amazon and TBH I wouldn't recommend them - I only use them for lounging around the van now and don't even wear them when taking the dog for a walk!! They are a nice colour though! Take care and thanks for watching Murray
Very interesting Murry, I don't know if anyone else has said, rolling up your bed, I do the same but I have fitted a "cargo net" at the back with various things including magnetic hooks ( which are great for lots of things) but you can open the back door up without your bedding falling out. Videos ? All your videos are great, photography, videoing, gear, camper, on the hill, so just keep them coming. One question -- how do you find time to edit them? once again many thanks for sharing ATB
Thats a great idea John - never thought of a net to stop it falling out of the van - I must investigate this one! Editing becomes much quicker the more you get used to it - when I first started the videos it took me days and days to edit one vlog - I can usually get them done much quicker now (depending on the length - weekends are spent on the hill or in front of the PC editing!!lol (I have a very understanding wife ;) take care and thanks for watching Murray

I entirely enjoyed this Murray. Not boring at all. You are an excellent narrator. And your van is almost like a house. Comfortable. Nice.

Ah I Nearly miss my VW van I sold this year 🤦♀️. I had a SWB & no space for a loo. Now have a less cool Nu venture surf. Quirky! I love it

You can update the gas struts for the tailgate. They do not cost that much, and can easily be changed out yourself. Plenty vids out there.

Love these vans but I'll have to stick to cramming my 6ft 2" frame into the back of my Ford Focus for the time being. Thanks for the van tour me owd cocka 🤙🙂
Really helpful…and entertaining Murray. Thank you!
The slug- a slow moving creature that carries its home. DO IT! :P
Great video pal, thank you.
Enjoyed that wish I had etched before I purchased
That was super interesting.
Having seen bits and pieces of your van inside ,it was nice to get the full tour
I’ve always thought how welcoming and safe you must feel after spending the day on a mountain
in all kinds of conditions to come back to your van.
All the bells and whistles makes it even more comfortable…always wondered about the toilet facilities
and now we know..very private
Well done tour and I thoroughly enjoyed it 🚐🇨🇦❤️
thanks Sue :)

What a lovely bit of kit that is
You can buy more heavy duty struts for the tailgate , ebay do them
Very good interior layout!
Brilliant really enjoyed this
That is a fantastic camper…..as good as Thomas Heaton’s 😃👍🏻
Toms could probably get to more off road locations than my camper van though :)

Drew
Thanks Drew - I’ll need to look into those for the campervan - thanks for the tip 👍👍
Love it Murray. I fancy the manly all terrain tyres on my VW Caddy too. 😂😂
Very interesting Murray, route planning and gear vids are always interesting 👌
Lovely Wagon Man.
Awesome video!
Pretty pretty fantastic as usual. Was thinking about a name for your van :) THE SOLO MURKATEER ☘️
So good that YT has given you a 2 4 1 on your comment!!
Inspiring stuff and cosy.
HI Murray, thanks for the van tour, that was really interesting.
Beautiful van , we are in the process of saving for ours now.
Just out of interest, the long wheel base , does that give you a longer bed on the pop top ?
😊👍🏼
Hi - TBH I am not 100% sure but think it does :) I have a 5 year review video coming up in the coming weeks which may be of interest :)
Thanks for watching

So weird. I was at a camper van showroom today in Glasgow because of you!! Just trying to work out how to afford it 😁 wondering if I could use as my company car??
Just get a garage to upgrade the rear tailgate gas springs to compensate the additional weight
Where did you get those blue and black trousers…… love them!!! ❤
Thanks Murray
Really interesting 👌 👍
This investments save you a lot of money now. I need to think about something like this.
Love your van so jealous I will get one when I retire 👍🏻
Great video! Just wondered how tall you are?
Gimmick or not, that was suspenseful fun! :-)
Looks and sounds good to me!😁☺
And here I am with a bouldering mat and some insulation velcroed to my windows to block the sun 😢
Awesome van mate, someday ill be able to afford similar.
at least you have insulation velcroed in - my days of car camping had none of that (and no privacy - always wondered if anyone peered in when I was sleeping!!lol

loved this video. good job.
Seriously funky trousers Murray
Can I ask what make they are ?
Love gear reviews so look forward to anything you have planned 👍🏼😀
Hi Darren - I got these from Amazon and TBH I wouldn't recommend them - I only use them for lounging around the van now and don't even wear them when taking the dog for a walk!! They are a nice colour though!

@@ScotlandsMountains thanks for replying Murray
Very interesting Murry, I don't know if anyone else has said, rolling up your bed, I do the same but I have fitted a "cargo net" at the back with various things including magnetic hooks ( which are great for lots of things) but you can open the back door up without your bedding falling out. Videos ? All your videos are great, photography, videoing, gear, camper, on the hill, so just keep them coming. One question -- how do you find time to edit them? once again many thanks for sharing ATB
Thats a great idea John - never thought of a net to stop it falling out of the van - I must investigate this one! Editing becomes much quicker the more you get used to it - when I first started the videos it took me days and days to edit one vlog - I can usually get them done much quicker now (depending on the length - weekends are spent on the hill or in front of the PC editing!!lol (I have a very understanding wife ;)
