we say "old roblox" because that time was a time that they would be having so much fun on anything we do (at least for me) i started playing it by 2016 so it is my "old roblox" times. i played prop hunt for the first game and maybe get scammed cuz i was a dummy kid. now i am just looking for fun games because my laptoo isnt really good enough to play steam games
It was never that the games were better, it was the atmosphere and personality of the platform. Everything used to be about making friends and having fun instead of getting into your wallet and making others mad.
@@Vhetio Yeah. They bring in big cash because they buy all the "cutest" and "coolest" outfits while buying all the gamepasses for big bux, meaning even if they get reported they will most likely not get a perm ban.
Yeah like one old game I played wasn't bc of the gameplay, its because of the nature and atmosphere of it. It was friendly and soothing too but after sometime the game disappeared and i never see it again...
Great video, I joined Roblox in around 2016-2017 and It warms my heart to see games from back then still running, like Lumber Tycoon 2, Normal Elevator, Natural Disaster survival, and don't forget the core games those were the funnest thing in the world. Unfortunately those games are in the minority and has had decreasing player counts which make me sad.
I joined around 2009-2010. My current problem with Roblox is the games feel manufactured. The games are made for profit first, addiction second, fun third. In the past due to the limited currency you could earn typically most games were created as fun hobby games, that were equally as fun to create as it was to play. Now most games are typically just filled with microtransactions to get anywhere. I typically find myself coming back to old games (Despite some scripts being broken) not just for reasons of nostalgia, but because sometimes I enjoy the more immediate fun of them. You can't find games like those anymore, and most games feel grindy and boring, and almost like mobile games. It comes to a point I'd rather just go and play other games instead, which is why I play Roblox less and less over time, since I can get the same general gameplay loop and experience of what I find on Roblox's same top games with generic mobile games. No search features makes it harder to weed out old and even some new high quality games, so you're forced to play the same top games over and over, and searching only gets you content farms with sometimes zero relevance to what you search. The only new games that reach the top are just based on other IP's. It just brings me great pain honestly, since experimentation and creativity are dead in exchange for profit.
I experience the same thing if you want to find some nice games try searching keywords like BETA, ALPHA, etc For example I found a game called microwave dinner which is like mario 64 and super mario odyssey
I joined in 2015 and my problem with roblox right now is I quit the game 1-2 mounth ago. My account will be Forgoten. I can’t see what i used to play and what is roblox now. Some games i loved to played « mad games » or « mad paintball » they are now dead, they are not played anymore.
Personally joined 2018, still playing quite frequently but just tryna find the good games through videos or just joining friends, the popular page makes me feel like I'm dying every time I see it
I joined in 2012 and I agree. 2015-2016 was when Roblox realized they could make *A LOT* more money off of selling out their audience. Like how "personal servers" where you could actually build with friends were removed for no other reason than roblox not wanting to update it anymore after they broke the stamper tools with the physics engine update.
what i love about old roblox compared to modern roblox is actually just how it looked, i love the goofy but fun aesthetic of the older roblox versions plus i really like how the old lighting looked like
But it's up to the devs to change how the lighting looks in their game? Roblox doesn't force you to use the oh-so hyper-realistic RTX graphics or something
Reasons why the new Roblox sucks: 1. Roblox now is unfortunately much more corporate. Back in the day, they cared about their community, because it was all they had. They made community events like the easter egg hunt (rip), and genuinely cared about the community. Now they only care about money, they are taking every sponsor they can, and completely forgot what made them good in the first place. They just went corporate, and stopped giving a shit about us, only caring about money. 2. Scummy Roblox developers are (imo) one of the worst things on the platform. Many may not realize, but games like pet simulator x, or practically any other "simulator" is just a cash grab for little kids with access to their mum's credit card. They are easy to make, colorful, simple to play (you just click) and keep little children on their ipads for hours. Some will argue about this, but this is the cancer or roblox. You can't even look at the main page of roblox without seeing these. The ironic thing is, those devs did the same thing as Roblox. Went corporate, without caring about the players, as long as the game is making money. 3. Pedos & Moderation. With the platform evolving (backwards), so did the players. Along with the wave of children coming to the game, came pedos and pervs. They are hidden under the surface, but if you click through some shady games and groups, you can easily find groups with people trading pictures or fetish games, but ruben sim already made a video on that so I won't bother doing it here. 4. Disappearance of actually good games. So, you might wonder where are all the good games at. Well, the answer is, that developers that didn't adapt to the clickbaity new nature of roblox, got buried under all of the colorful clickers and simulators. Games like entry point, starbase, or plane crazy (and many more) are all amazing, but they get nowhere near the attention they deserve. It's just sad to see that devs that actually cared about their playerbases and refused to make something 5 year olds would play essentially failed. Games nowadays, or "experiences" as the new corporate roblox calls them just don't form a connection with players, there is no family like vibe, they just feel soulless, cold, because they are just a scummy cash grab. Let me know if i forgot anything, because that's definitely not everything
5. A lot more players seem to adapt the R15 model nowadays (even some of the ROBLOX veterans!) Obviously not all of it is bad, but to me it just seems more apparent that it's turning ROBLOX into a completely different thing and they probably may likely abandon it sometime (I HOPE TO GOD, that it does not happen).
I don't you are just saying the bad stuff in now roblox and the past say good at this point you should thinck what happen In the past toixc people hacker alot people petting to like noob because they bacon are new and there lest hacker fine there lot of bad stuff 2023 in roblox. You looking to the bad stuff old had bad stuff to and when I join late or early 2019 it the the only difference is there more haker toixc and less game I mean I my inpoin new is better than old
I think that when people say "old Roblox was better" they don't refer to 2010 or something like that. They refer to 3-6 years ago where games could be quite well developed, the community was not as toxic or bad as it tends to be now (as it hadn't aged up so much) and Roblox cared about the community as it was not yet a corporation. At least, that's what I would say for myself.
Roblox has been incredibly capitalist since its inception, also yes many people are referring to that old era, 2016-2020 IS part of new roblox, also if you dont think they had well developed complex games on the platform before then then you arent paying much attention, early 2010s roblox had amazing showcase maps
I like the identity roblox made for their games with the built-in textures. Just feels so unique in a way, however archaic they might seem now. I think that’s just nostalgia speaking tho
I'm so glad this video was made. It's crazy because "old roblox" to me is not 2015-18, it's more 2012-15. You hit the nail when about the players > profits. The problem is that now, developing games is a job, not a hobby. The average developer was about 14-25 (pushing it). Now they're literal adults. That isn't bad, but that means there's no connection. Back then, you actually could MEET a big developer in a game, either their own or another's. Now they just develop, collect cash and that's it. And this means adults just copy the most popular game (tower defense, roleplay, anime battle bullshit) and make big bucks. Keep in mind, back then, gamepasses BARELY hit the 400 robux mark. I bought "Enforcer's Powers" for a HS game for about 500 robux. that same gamepass right now is 1500 robux, a 200% increase. Why? The gamepass is even weaker if you compare it. I remember thinking 200 robux gamepasses were expensive, now we have gamepasses in the TEN THOUSANDS. That's CRAZY. This is a game for KIDS, not fully grown adults. You're enticing a child to pay almost 100 dollars for a game that may or may not last a few years. The vast majority of old developers are either gone, or have changed. Work At a Pizza Place used to be a COMPLETELY FREE GAME. There was HARDLY ANY customization, but it was FUN. People didn't just show off their stupid houses, they actually PLAYED. I met some of my best friends on ROBLOX, and as far as community, more vile things were said because players usually were 12-16, not 0-10 like it is now. Yes it's targeted towards them, but so is minecraft. thank you for listening to my rant :)
Yeah I remember in that famous "Multi Minigames!" game where VIP was 10 robux or 100 tix. I used to play that game practically every day in 2013 along with "A pirate's life" (where VIP was only 50 robux) and some other less popular games I can't remember.
I liked it when it was advertised as an "online social hangout", rather than an actual game creating tool for revenue and stuff. Sometimes simplicity is key over hardcore coding and whatever.
I joined Roblox in 2013 and I've beem playing it till this day. I could see it evolve but at the same time I was growing up and my perspective on some topics was changing constantly. I cannot say that old Roblox was better compared to the current state of the platform, due to the fact that I'm a different person right now. Once I was hit by nostalgia and tried to find and play the oldest games based on my badges' history. Even though they were simplistic and reminded me of the past, they seemed empty and made me feel bored quite easily. I still wonder why me as a kid, enjoyed such simplicity and lack of innovation. Most of the categories I played were obbies, horrors, shooters, minigames and rpgs and they mostly ran through the same or similar scheme of creating the experience based on a given category. Don't get me wrong, I loved those games and sometimes I tend to play retro-styled ones such as RetroStudio because it reminds me of the beautiful past which made my childhood more colorful.
@NotDrxnqknew Roblox now is filled with teenagers overusing slang with an even more toxic community than before. Even the kids on bloxfruits know basic insults that can hurt 😂, I agree with you that the community is what kept me playing but some games I genuinely found and still find kind of fun. Nowadays you greet someone they’ll respond in either sims or Morse code
Yeah the older games really wouldn’t be very engaging for me at all these days, but honestly I feel thats because nowadays I hardly interact with other players in the chat, either because nobody else is saying anything, or the people that are speaking are speaking in an unfamiliar language. Even a good game to me gets boring when the chat is devoid of activity
the new community is just full with bullying and online dating. not saying it didn't happen back then, but it's so much worse now. they keep using weird cringy slang and keep using sus stuff and i blame modern society for that as well.
You explained this pretty well in one video, I needed it. In 2021, I made a game and it’s one of those moments where I took it very seriously. It took me months to make this one game and I had a title for it, scripts, buildings, plot, everything; until I lost all my motivation because I had to focus on school or it was family concerns. I still feel to this day, that my motivation caused me to fail on this one project. I still have the game, but I don’t consider to work on it anytime soon. To everyone: please do not be discouraged, keep working on what you love.
One point I rarely see people mention, is how unscripted everything was. Back then, any interesting thing that happened in a game was a product of a player's interaction, and not the game in specific. The games built the stage and you performed freely on it. Now, most games put you in the judge seat. I don't really think "there are no more good games". I think it's more of a community growth issue (in numbers). With more players, naturally more people will use cheap methods or cash grabs, so the ratio of good games to bad ones is wider. Back then there was more visibility for better games.
This is so true for role playing games omg, I used to play an MLP and Hogwarts role play game 10 years ago and I came back to it and it’s so boring without the players, that’s when I realized I missed the friends and I made and the community of those games back then, I never felt so left out in those games now because obviously there’s a younger, newer player base but they’re difficult to interact with tbh
@@marikkelaszlo3355Really true. Roleplay games are what dominated the community in 2016-2019 & were packed with enthusiastic players. Nowadays, either the players can’t be bothered to roleplay & move to other aspects in the game (bloxburg, it’s building, royal high, it’s dress up etc.) or it’s overloaded with sexual content. I quit playing roblox partly because of it, and I’m sad kids won’t get to experience the fun I got to on Roblox anymore. I remember the fun, innocence & imaginative storylines I use to participate in that kids won’t ever see anymore. Also, I know a lot of people used to laugh at those cafe games but they genuinely made me a lot of memories. Especially those theatre ones!
I'm glad you touched upon the fact that front page for games back then was different from now. I remember discovering so much cool games because the front page always cycled every few weeks or month, the past front page gave new and upcoming game devs a chance to show their creations, and that was also helped by how Roblox ran their events, including these games to encourage players to try the many different games on the platform. In the present, I have to rely on outside sources like TH-cam, Reddit, and etc just so I can find a decent game since the games on the front page are nearly always the same and hasn't changed all that much in the past 3 years.
fr i literally have to search stuff outta roblox and I literally have an entire list of decent games just to avoid the absolute garbage recommendations.
and what is rlly depressing is those games you look for on other sources? not alot of people are playing those games bc of roblox ghosting the games. no casual players r gonna see those rare decent games since they dont bother looking deep enough for them.
they only push games to front page based on engagement of profit which is probably why it looks so monotonous, developers dont want to make games just for fun anymore because they need to add p2w to get their game on front page, and then it becomes about money instead of passion
I agree man, RP was so much better before there was a group of 40 players bypassing the chat filter in the most popular area of the map, most of the time they aren’t even RPing.
Is it just me or is it impossible to find ANY casual rp anymore. People either don’t rp, or when they do it’s extremely serious and everyone has a specific role that was signed to them beforehand
I've been playing Roblox since 2012 and this video is pretty spot on. Things like Roblox blowing up in popularity, the old forum merge and then getting shut down, and the community changing drastically made me lose basically all interest in the platform. While I do prefer old Roblox vastly over modern Roblox, modern Roblox does have a lot going for it that are substantially better than old Roblox. I think it's amazing that it's easier than ever to create new, fun games without a lot of the setbacks and obstacles that developing on Roblox had before. It's just a shame that discovering games is absolute trash on the platform and most popular games end up being the video game equivalent of Cocomelon.
I love this video, it sums up perfectly why so many people, like myself prefer the gameplay of old roblox. Keep up the great work man and I hope you get to 10k soon! 🙏
2015 I joined, people were so calm, very little amount of aggressive players, oders were a problem, but they're worse now by 100%. I wish they'd make a separate Roblox 2017 game, where we could go play in that old simple style, and people who prefer 2023 games could stay on the new version
The reason I enjoy older games is due to how Roblox functions graphically. The platform consistently releases graphic updates that Roblox developers always incorporate. Regardless of your GPU, Roblox will remain a CPU-intensive game. Therefore, even a 4090 graphics card will provide minimal value in improving the FPS. I can run some AAA games at 4K with 50 FPS on my rig. When it comes to Roblox, it occasionally struggles to reach 30 FPS, especially in unoptimized games. Like the latest example was when I played Murder Mystery 2, the FPS gradually declined to 20.
@@SoupyMittens nah nothing wrong with my computer. I said my fps degraded to 20 over time. When I first joined, it reached like 360 fps. I played several hours in the same game before the performance started tanking
@@fortressflashdeck4089 3060 ti and the gpu only contributes 10% of the fps. Roblox is a cpu intensive game and your cpu will contribute 90% of the fps. But my games are fine 100% of the time, I’m talking about unoptimized game that run like dogwater. My biggest concern is how roblox is trying to reach the same graphical standard as triple A studio, but not trying to switch over to GPU. Most people think about the gpu first before having any thoughts on the cpu.
back then (2017) i could barely play prison life at 5 graphics, one day i installed borderlands prequel and was SHOCKED at how it was somehow running on 30-60 FPS (forgot exact) looking at a lot of the spec requirements for steam games, i couldve possibly ran every ps3/xbox 360 game EASY, HOLY CRAP I WISH I KNEW THIS BETTER BACK THEN roblox needs optimization badly
It has been a decade for me. Every footage of the old era here triggers a part of my old memories, forgotten but the feeling still remains and it hurts. Everywhere in the old footage, not exaggerating, like everywhere I looked there. I used to be in those. Nostalgia hits harder as you proceed older. The feeling of having.. "them." slowly fade away without you realising.
Honestly the reason a lot prefer old regular roblox is because of that classic feeling of getting to try something new and its style just gives life to the games even more, The community still had its toxic traits but it was way more enjoyable then the community now. I honestly just wished old roblox got to stay and be with the modern roblox Ive joined 2017 (or 2016 I forgot) I joined as guest, I think it was around the time before they got deleted. When I first joined I honestly just found the look of classic roblox so relieving, its honestly just the community and personality of old roblox I miss
The front page in 2017 was a lot more interesting than the current one. Every game felt so unique and out-of-the-box. Not to mention that they were very simple to learn and play. Whenever you get bored from a game, you move to another and that's how it goes. When I see modern day front pages, I feel like things are all repetitive. Literally nothing grabs ny attention nowadays other than events and the free items that come with them. This is the only reason why I did not quit after 2020.
2010er here. i loved old roblox way more than today’s well because, i was younger so i found things a lot more entertaining. also i felt like the community wasn’t as divided back then so it was pretty easy to find people with similar interests.
Honestly? It's largely the community for me. In a really specific way, though. In a lot of games, especially popular ones, you'll notice chats will be really empty despite the popularity sometimes. People don't chat as much as they used to, at least in my experience. Games will be filled with people who just idle forever or randomly wander without talking. There WERE guests back then, which were similar I guess, but at least Guests would ACTUALLY play the game sometimes and attempt communication without chat. I mostly just miss chatting with people and also some round-based games having more people actually playing it.
I joined around the time guests were still a thing in 2017, I joined the platform as a guest aswell. Once I couldn’t play as one, I made my first account. And honestly, while the community was still a bit toxic, people were definitely friendlier and nicer. The first roblox youtuber I watched was EthanGamerTV, and he was the reason I got into Roblox. I know most people consider the golden age of roblox to be somewhere between 2010-2016, but my time on the platform in 2017 will always hold a special place In my heart.
I understand that people want old roblox back because they thought it’s all sunshine and rainbows. every year has bad side and were happy back then cause were kids and enjoying what we could. New roblox is doing whatever you want and old roblox is do whatever you could
Nah, new roblox is "whatever makes money" its all just copy+paste average simulator with tons of microtransactions, or some bandit beater that takes 5000 hours to complete only to get your average fighting game (looking at blox fruits right now) and overall the core gameplay nowadays is just copy+pasted everywhere for profit
i have joined around 2017, i have tried the RetroBlox which was remake of old roblox and could see how it was much more fun cause of less worrying of getting judges and stuff. it was fun to mess around, safe and sound for kids. nowdays are just bunch of things getting less and less for all age and less appropriate along with more toxicity nowdays. Glad I decided to stepped away from roblox now as there isn't much things i could get into nowdays. So yeah, step on grass and live your life.
There’s a new version called RetroStudio but it’s less safe because people have the ability to create their own worlds and insert their own textures. Yeah, you probably know where this is going.
" less toxic " no. you didnt join in 2017. you joined in 2020. people back then cussed alot on roblox. More then today. Whatever you think is a "slender" is not real.
hot take: new avatars are way better than old ones. old avatars are good and simplistic, but new avatars have way more customization and potential especially with all the new avatar updates
I stopped playing the game some years ago, just came back recently to see how it is. The first thing I noticed was the wiggly character and missing clothing. Then I found out that R15 was apllied to my character (changed back) and that I was using a clothing called "I feel bricky" that got removed from the game and searching about it made me give a look on how the community is going. I played quite a lot of games and honestly, If the game does not need R15 or God forbid antrhos R6 feels better. Regardless, I'seen some good new games but the front page is deranged. Roblox just changed demographs for the most part, going from 12-16 YOs to 6-10. Quality wise games are better, but the monitazation is dogshit on most of them but there are outliars such as "Isle" and "HELLMET" which are pretty fucking cool.
Old Roblox just represents the entire brand, the creativity and the unknown. You never knew what was gonna be on the front page the next day, as new games were always being made, and new hats were always being added. The entire image of Roblox is the noob avatar, the symbol of Old Roblox itself, not a trendy avatar from today.
i think the reason people miss old roblox is because they miss the fun they used to have while playing or just miss all previous great memories they had while they were still new or just miss how simple roblox games used to be
Agreed no Inappropriate weirdos of girls, no slanders, an other new generations of cringy garbage, that's why I like the old roblox community better because I make roblox videos from nostalgia.
@@UnrealToonzthere were always inappropriate weirdos and pedos in old Roblox. there were people like explode1 and misterobvious who used to be on old Roblox got exposed as pedo plus there were always oders and club games but you guys never explored Roblox to the deep end when you were younger and slender is just an avatar
@@UnrealToonz but those slanders, weirdos girls and ODers are people you can IGNORE??? so how does that impact your enjoyment of the game itself? do you literally go out of your way to fight with these people? how do they make your game experience worse??
This is straight up facts, I have to agree with everyone here about how nice, calm, and overall epic Roblox was back in 2017 and 2018, warms my heart. Very nice video, I agree on every point you made in this video. Keep up the good work!
You hit me with nostalgia at 0:51 , The legendary game every old player on roblox knows. 2017 is better within the community (In my opinion). Also the reason we all love it more is nostalgia. We all know that. Hexaria is a very nostalgic game, I remember hopping on with the boys and killing bosses. It was a very enjoyable experience
something that i dont see many people talking about is tiktok, tiktok set a difference from old roblox to modern roblox, changing people humor and actitude, something more noticeable is avatars, after tiktok almost every avatar became emo, having mostly a lot of hair and not using character meshes, also making a lot simps and competitive people (and there werent furries on roblox before 2020)
I definitely find the main reason to be just nostalgia, and it's natural. I myself think the 2018-2019 period was best because that was when I was a fresh user, and still young. ROBLOX was just people's childhood around that time. But I do have to admit, ROBLOX certainly was more fun and lively than today for sure.
Same. I joined 2018 and then the website was still blue and the login screen with that rollercoaster in the background. Looked way better than the depressing grayness.
people love the old roblox for similar reasons on why people love the older times people say "that's because you were a kid and things were simpler" as like a coping mechanism for their current reality, as if saying "nothing has changed, only you have" but if you legitimately look at like high school videos of people in the 90s, for example, people were genuinely happier during those times, and as you slowly look back more and more in the years, you will see higher happiness, better outlooks on life, and more logical, rational people the world has gone progressive, progressively worse, and people are not ready to admit that, they'd rather blind themselves and say "its just nostalgia" or "its just rose-tinted glasses" and thinking that it's their fault that the world sucks for them, when plain and simply the world just sucks more now, and to ignore that only hurts yourself, because it is like living a disease-filled room and thinking you need to make yourself healthier to not get sick instead of getting rid of the mold infestation that's taking over around you and making you sick
I joined first in 2010 and have played ever since. I’d say 2016-2018 were the best years of Roblox ever and ever will be, the age demographic was a lot higher than it is now and the games were actually good and unique ideas. Nowadays ever games the same, all p2w, copies and baby games. Roblox age demographics is much closer to 6 years old which I think is honestly quite sad
Roblox front page nowadays has become a drought that never goes away, the variety of the game that you can choose are so miniscule that every game feels like the same genre, nowadays I just join whatever my friend is playing and what's currently hot at the moment, that's how I find most of the game sometimes.
I joined Roblox around Late 2017, what I miss about Roblox is the EggHunts, it was really fun to get egg hats from *egghunting*, after Roblox discontinued EggHunts, they made the hats limiteds, which is the reason why my account is a bit valuable.
I miss all the fun events, like the old egg hunts, winter games, summer games and so on. The best thing about roblox in my opinion were all these events, especially the egg hunts
when i click discover today there is so many copies of other games and simulators and stuff like that most of the time you cant even find a good game there today
@@thej8656 literally, you can IGNORE people who online date, slenders, whatever like why is that an argument on why you think new roblox is "bad" ? how do these people ruin your enjoyment of the game when you can just ignore them???
i joined roblox in late 2017, back when Jailbreak was at the top (by a huge margin), everything i played then felt alive and unique, but the most happened when the first version of Booga Booga came out somewhere in early 2018, i kept offending people who played it, saying it sucked and overreacting at how bad it is, little did i know that game would change who i am and where i am in life now. when i actually decided to check it out, i immediately got dragged into it, making the most friends i ever made, and the best friends i ever made, that was the happiest i felt ever. that community was the best i have ever joined, creating memories that would last for ages. in late 2018, after months of nonstop playing Booga Booga, my account got hacked, and i lost everything and everyone associated with that account. i became so heart-broken, i havent touched roblox for almost a year before i decided to give it one more chance. i created a new account, with the hopes of meeting the same people, but when i joined the game, not only everything was way different, most people had become more emotionless, not letting me have as much fun as i had a year ago, so i left, never to be seen playing Booga Booga again. at this point its very late in 2019, and roblox seemed like a way more hostile place while compared to pre-2019. Lumber Tycoon 2 was also a game i used to grind days on end on that old account, and it still shocks me to see that it is still being updated to this day, and that its fundamentals are the same, keeping the same essential features it had years ago. Jailbreak at this point is long gone, being thrown out of the top games on roblox, as many copycats have found their way onto the main page. roblox, as well as the whole world is not the same place it used to be before 2019, i feel like we hit a barrier, after which people started being mean to each other, making every nice player the victim when they are looking for people to play with. the sad reality is that not a lot of people like that exist. i, (without exaggeration) always used to be the nicest player in the server, helping everyone who played with me, not disregarding anyone, even if they were the mean type, i always tried to befriend them, but after 2019, it just became impossible. i know there were many other games on the main page i left out, they just didnt have such an impact on my life as Booga Booga for example. i just hope that someday, it can all come back.
The reason I loved old games was because the devs focused mostly on the enjoyablity of the game and it's uniqueness, not how it looked. A perfect example of this is one of my favorite games of all time, Armored Patrol. It was a terrible game and never worked properly, but the amazing feels of being able to fly helicopters, drive tanks, and blow up vehicles while fighting enemies was super fun back then. Another game like this that I enjoyed was Galleons. These games were super unique back then and offered things that weren't available in any other games, but sadly, nowadays unique games don't get noticed due to how the search system and how young the playerbase is.
i joined roblox at first in 2015, i had lots of fun back then, compared to now, we just have repetitive simulators etc etc, although, we have these highly detailed and good scripted games that in my opinion is much fun than the older games (depending on the game and its genre, system etc) most people like the old time for the nostalgia, but sometimes you need to leave the past to the past and move on.
I would wanna say that while i might be wrong on this, saying removing genres make things more clean, is like saying bunching all the stuff in one place makes it so because everywhere else is clean. Except that then there's a big messy pile in the room. Part of being clean is having stuff be organized, and sorted. You can get your stuff you need, and things could still look nice, as opposed to just trying to dig through a bunch of stuff just to find it in that messy pile.
if you ask me 2020 was probably the last good year of roblox. sure new roblox has some cool features but even before 2020 there were things that were so much better such as the website having the iconic white and blue color scheme, builder's club still existing, the old room you would be in when you went to change your avatar, and just so much more. nowadays 2021-present just felt really out of touch with the roblox we all know and love, especially with layered clothing, dynamic heads replacing the classic 2d faces, and custom characters
this is subjective, my sisters joined roblox in 2022 and they loved it the reason people say "oh old roblox was so much better" basically the time they joined for the first time is because of NOSTALGIA the game back then had some features that it doesnt have now like tix or whatever but overall its still almost the same it just became more mainstream because 2017 roblox had only 10% of the players it has today you became bored of the game because you grew up not because of the changes
@@mikaela43523I dont think the base game changed too much What changed was the incentive. They all want money, and if you dont, you dont get players. There's too many cookie cutter copy + paste games nowadays and its overall not fun anymore. They're all just bandit beaters, bait for 5yro or endless clicker games
@@JACKIEMON1 it wasnt until 2021 when Roblox really started meat riding the word "metaverse" though. 2020 was the last egg hunt and the second to last bloxy awards, although I will give some credit to 2021 for having TDS win best game trailer
@@ghostlyliam yep, you re kinda right, in 2020 we had the last good events in roblox, in 2021 roblox replaced all of the good events just to make these stupdi live ops
I think a big factor was how different the games were. Every game felt it brought somthing new, somthing innovative, and at times, things that we never say in any popular game releases. Its a big issue we are struggling to tackle more and more, as new ideas get harder and harder to create. We *really* did explore every street to gaming, and now were having to search alleyways to find what new ideas we can.
One of the main things that's been ruined for me is the catalog/trading aspect of Roblox. They stopped doing sales, gifts, new limiteds and more. Not to mention UGC (in my opinion) has completely oversaturated and ruined the entire catalog, especially as it's barely moderated. With several awful updates they've done recently such as the trade hold update and UGC limiteds they've basically killed trading too. They just seem so out of touch with the majority of their player base which is sad.
Been around since 2010-2011, gotta say this video is a great representation of how I feel about the platform. Especially when you say roblox has started to prioritize profits over players. Its really apparent to those who were around earlier and can compare it to what it is now. Games have become higher quality and yet less and less original, save for some outliers, it's a bit depressing seeing my little sister who's 10 years younger on the game every now and then and it's just microtransactions everywhere, but for someone her age it's always been there since she started. Thankfully she hasn't been exposed to the degen side of roblox and just has fun playing which is good but that's just a silver lining at best. That part of roblox wouldn't exist if the moderation was competent and did the bare minimum. Nevertheless this was a great nostalgia trip and a nice lookback on some games I used to play myself. Great video.
honestly the worst part objectively is the fact that roblox mods are doing NOTHING to stop horrible things that you probably already know about happening on the platform, ruben sim talks alot about it
For me, even though I first played Roblox back in 2016, that doesn't mean that "Old Roblox" was far more superior than the current state. I discussed with a few Roblox veterans who (always) claim that Roblox back in Late 2000s-Early 2010s was simply more enjoyable and rememberable. But when I ask them "Why is that?" They stay quiet. Most people claim that the community/players were far friendlier back in the early stages of Roblox. But the Roblox community, was actually a bit small because of how new the platform was at the time. Also, Roblox was intended for kids to play and create their own games too. Other people would also claim that games (or experiences) were a lot more fun and rememberable than the games we have in Modern Roblox. I mean, I do understand that people find old games "Classic" because of the significance and popularity it brought. But it doesn't mean that playing nothing but Zombie games in 2010 is SUPER fun. Also, as technology gets better in the new generation, Roblox developing gets better too, which allows us to create ton's of new and realistic Roblox experiences. Which even allows new developers to push their skills at the limit. Generally speaking, it's not the companies problem if someone isn't having fun, but it might actually be your fault. So if you aren't feeling great about how Roblox is now, you have a choice. Either quit Roblox entirely, or simply try developing your own game, maybe it will explode in popularity very soon.
Another reason why I think old Roblox won the hearts of so many is due to the simplicity of the games at the time, it really forced people to interact and talk to each other which could form friendships and connections with other players. Games nowadays are very competitive, and players are usually concentrating or grinding and don't really interact with other players anymore. In 2016, When your average top game is usually something so simple, it leads to people interacting with others out of boredom, which actually then makes the game seem fun as you're constantly engaging with it, its why nowadays when you replay the 'old' games they don't feel fun at all, because its the people within the game that made it fun. There wasn't any slenders standing in the background staying silent and walking away if you approached them, everyone would engage and interact with each other and you'll always find yourself a new friend whenever you played a game.
i joined in 2016 and it was in the middle of classic, and beginner modern. I much prefer classic roblox games because each game is made differenctly with a developer wants their dream idea in a game. not chasing what gets the most plays, i liked the simple and fun games
As an old Roblox Player (2009-2016 OG), if you remember Heli Wars, Classic Lost Souls RPG, and Quest to the Guest… you’re a certified Roblox vet. With that said, I have to say seeing the state of Roblox today makes me really sad, not necessarily because I want to go back and relive the nostalgia. But because kids today won’t have as much fun with the game as I did at their age. It’s gone from an experimental physics and creativity platform to a poor quality game engine. Some games are still fun, I’ve even had a good time playing Ninja Legends (it’s objectively bad but I like jumping), but it’s nothing compared to the creativity and innovation from back then.
Honestly, I prefer the higher quality of modern games and how much more customization options we have at our disposal, but I would be lying if I said it's annoying how difficult it is to discover more niche titles, let alone passion projects. That isn't to say they don't exist, far from it. I've been sort of paying attention to Kamuro District, a Yakuza/LAD/RGG recreation on Roblox that looks like it could be something great. ALSO, it's worth noting that 13+ accounts make up the majority of players. It's likely a lot of age faking, but many of the folks who joined in 2015-18 and are still around are likely in high school at this point.
obviously the straight up answer is nostalgia, but the main impact for me is what has been removed. for example the oof sound, music, egg hunts, fun events including good free items and gears in the catalog, the old layouts and avatar editors, tix, classic faces and so much more
Cuz that's how nostalgia works You will always prefer old cuz that's probably when you started playing and had most fun playing the game People also tend to forget about bad things in exchange for remembering good things
Tell me, which is better Game that looks cool Or game that actually feels fun and cool to play Hint.. yeah you picked old roblox, graphics are all they care about and now its just horrible core gameplay
I wish Roblox would have been like in 2011 with the Graphics and Game because this old era before 2015 just showed that simplicity and creativity are more important than graphics or money. People made games for fun back then and nowadays its a paywall everywhere you look
I think when people say the new Roblox is better, they usually just mean the Roblox engine, graphics and functionality of the games, not Roblox overall
I joined 2014, I love modern Roblox, it is great with amazing games I never thought possible on Roblox. What I do hate about modern Roblox is the community and youtubers.
@@fabjose5281 the person who made it should go outside. perhaps even learn what life is like (they get what they deserve. the quick slap of life reminding them not to be weird)
I joined in 2008. Some of the things you said in this video are just flat out wrong. Sex games, online daters, toxic and "weird" people very much existed back then. Kids saying dumb stuff also existed back then, the audience wasn't that much older, definitely not older than 18 at most. The forums were pretty much entirely ignored past 2013. There were only like 3 total mods who actually paid attention to it, legoseed, ReeseMcBlox, and gordonrox24.
We need a mix of the 2. We need Tix back, the old oof sound(Roblox can pay a $10k copyright), R6 emotes, and much more while keeping the graphics of the new stuff. Also, make moderation manual.
I have a simple answer Roblox wasn't obsessed with Rthro and sure we have UGC now, which people still can't seem to decide whether it's good or bad, but it's all limited and every item is UGC.
i joined in 2011 and played pretty consistently up until 2021, where i decided i was done with roblox and ive only been on a couple times to revisit old games since then. i think i got fed up with the entire direction roblox was taking. we stopped getting high effort events every year, the community hasnt felt as tightly knit since the forums were done away with, and roblox is killing their unique art style for something more corporate and broadly appealing. maybe im just older now and roblox has a lot of nostalgia for me. obviously nothing stays the same, but im glad i got to enjoy the best years while they lasted
People are now making games for the Roblox algorithm, they are designed to optimize for things like playtime and player retention - and above all, make money. It's a lot easier to use tactics that trick players into playing more and spending more than it is to make good games you genuinely want to play again.
I like how much people see that they don't know what are the flaws of coming back and deleting the future just to Play Old Roblox with No updates, it is scuffed.
Thanks for featuring footage from probably my favorite channel of all time, Bereghostgames. His mountain of good quality old roblox content is so overlooked but very entertaining.
i joined in 2016 and im so disappointed (going dad mode) on how people reminisce about those times. Shouldn't it be looked back on fondly and we see how far we've come now instead of "HOW DARE EVERYTHING CHANGE EVERYTHING SUCKS NOW I HATE EVERYTHING NEW LET'S KEEP EVERYTHING THE SAME AND EVERYONE IS TOXIC NOWADAYS." i don't remember too much but it was fun (even tho i was a stupid little guest) and i think we should just appreciate it instead of hating everything new nowadays.
2:07 I don’t know if you’re trying to offend doors here, but it’s a really creative game that mixes in the old fun with the new graphics. (you could argue it’s unoriginal because it kinda copied a game called rooms)
It’s because all the roblox front page shows you today is boring games that everyone seems to play for some reason. And when you join to find out why everyone plays it so much, it’s not because it’s fun, it’s because it will give you in-game rewards to keep playing. They don’t recommend you good games anymore, you literally have to find them yourself.
The thing I miss about old Roblox was gear fighting and the old gear community. There was something so special and enticing about being able to bring your favorite gear items into any game that allowed it and potentially battle and make new friends. Too bad Roblox gear is dead now. The feeling isn't even recaptured by gear games or catalog heaven anymore. It just isn't the same
I'm learning how to make games for Roblox, and what I want most is for those who play to enjoy the games like we used to. Each game was different, there were no pets, repetitive mechanics, and letting the player afk farming (who was the idiot who thought that was enjoying a game). I want today's children to miss these games in the future like I miss the games I used to play, or better yet, that with my games I can influence the culture of Roblox game development to change.
The reason why people love old Roblox is how experimental they were and each game feels different, unlike the ones we have now.

I experience the same thing if you want to find some nice games try searching keywords like BETA, ALPHA, etc
For example I found a game called microwave dinner which is like mario 64 and super mario odyssey
I joined in 2015 and my problem with roblox right now is I quit the game 1-2 mounth ago. My account will be Forgoten. I can’t see what i used to play and what is roblox now. Some games i loved to played « mad games » or « mad paintball » they are now dead, they are not played anymore.

Reasons why the new Roblox sucks:
5. A lot more players seem to adapt the R15 model nowadays (even some of the ROBLOX veterans!)
Obviously not all of it is bad, but to me it just seems more apparent that it's turning ROBLOX into a completely different thing and they probably may likely abandon it sometime (I HOPE TO GOD, that it does not happen).
I don't you are just saying the bad stuff in now roblox and the past say good at this point you should thinck what happen In the past toixc people hacker alot people petting to like noob because they bacon are new and there lest hacker fine there lot of bad stuff 2023 in roblox. You looking to the bad stuff old had bad stuff to and when I join late or early 2019 it the the only difference is there more haker toixc and less game I mean I my inpoin new is better than old
Community was always shit bruh what this dude babbling about
Roblox devs were also always scummy even in the 2015s
There were alr a ton of pedos in old roblox, there was a female roblox admin that was having sexual relationships with a male minor
It was much toxic back then
well, i don't remember it being like that. At least, not as much

Good point. A kid/teen would develop a game for fun. An adult needs to make a living, so they just make a cash grab.
I agree but in 2018 games were more well developed and it was 3 years away from teh micro transaction storm
I liked it when it was advertised as an "online social hangout", rather than an actual game creating tool for revenue and stuff. Sometimes simplicity is key over hardcore coding and whatever.
Save 6 minutes:
People miss being happy
The community wasn’ as toxic back then
I joined Roblox in 2013 and I've beem playing it till this day.
Even a good game to me gets boring when the chat is devoid of activity
i ain't reading allat
Same year man
the new community is just full with bullying and online dating. not saying it didn't happen back then, but it's so much worse now. they keep using weird cringy slang and keep using sus stuff and i blame modern society for that as well.
In the present, I have to rely on outside sources like TH-cam, Reddit, and etc just so I can find a decent game since the games on the front page are nearly always the same and hasn't changed all that much in the past 3 years.
this is so true, I'm literally stuck playing like 3-5 decent games on repeat because I can't find anything else that is actually good
fr i literally have to search stuff outta roblox and I literally have an entire list of decent games just to avoid the absolute garbage recommendations.
and what is rlly depressing is those games you look for on other sources? not alot of people are playing those games bc of roblox ghosting the games. no casual players r gonna see those rare decent games since they dont bother looking deep enough for them.
@@heyolorenns You can't really use the roblox games page to look deep tho.
they only push games to front page based on engagement of profit which is probably why it looks so monotonous, developers dont want to make games just for fun anymore because they need to add p2w to get their game on front page, and then it becomes about money instead of passion
People don’t take RP serious anymore. There are a lot of kids who just don’t care about it and ruin the fun for everyone

@@Gamerboss40YTfor mobile, it's trash, it just forces you to be on portrait mode
I think there is something wrong with your PC, I can run MM2 on 60 fps on a 2017 dell work laptop with a core i5, so not exactly a good computer.
what computer do you have??? i have a gtx 1060 & it runs very good!
Most people think about the gpu first before having any thoughts on the cpu.
back then (2017) i could barely play prison life at 5 graphics, one day i installed borderlands prequel and was SHOCKED at how it was somehow running on 30-60 FPS (forgot exact)
looking at a lot of the spec requirements for steam games, i couldve possibly ran every ps3/xbox 360 game EASY, HOLY CRAP I WISH I KNEW THIS BETTER BACK THEN
roblox needs optimization badly
It has been a decade for me. Every footage of the old era here triggers a part of my old memories, forgotten but the feeling still remains and it hurts. Everywhere in the old footage, not exaggerating, like everywhere I looked there. I used to be in those. Nostalgia hits harder as you proceed older. The feeling of having.. "them." slowly fade away without you realising.
they removed genre search because they could get more money from the front page trash lol
Honestly the reason a lot prefer old regular roblox is because of that classic feeling of getting to try something new and its style just gives life to the games even more, The community still had its toxic traits but it was way more enjoyable then the community now. I honestly just wished old roblox got to stay and be with the modern roblox
Ive joined 2017 (or 2016 I forgot) I joined as guest, I think it was around the time before they got deleted.
And now if it is chatting its either 6 year olds trying to be funny or then some slender edaters
They either being shy or they just dont have any friends to chat with
@@CherrysGuy32 but... Chat with the other people in the game, i do it when others are active, makes it alot more fun and lively

i have joined around 2017, i have tried the RetroBlox which was remake of old roblox and could see how it was much more fun cause of less worrying of getting judges and stuff. it was fun to mess around, safe and sound for kids. nowdays are just bunch of things getting less and less for all age and less appropriate along with more toxicity nowdays. Glad I decided to stepped away from roblox now as there isn't much things i could get into nowdays. So yeah, step on grass and live your life.

hot take: new avatars are way better than old ones. old avatars are good and simplistic, but new avatars have way more customization and potential especially with all the new avatar updates
Although new avatars are good, they are also used for......other purposes
i also think the new avatar customisation is cool, but i feel like the super realistic ones don't even feel like they belong in roblox.
yeah, old one only have simplistic accessories while the new one give alot of customizations.
And better than not, the new one contains the old one aswell.
Quality wise games are better, but the monitazation is dogshit on most of them but there are outliars such as "Isle" and "HELLMET" which are pretty fucking cool.

people love the old roblox for similar reasons on why people love the older times
people say "that's because you were a kid and things were simpler" as like a coping mechanism for their current reality, as if saying "nothing has changed, only you have" but if you legitimately look at like high school videos of people in the 90s, for example, people were genuinely happier during those times, and as you slowly look back more and more in the years, you will see higher happiness, better outlooks on life, and more logical, rational people
the world has gone progressive, progressively worse, and people are not ready to admit that, they'd rather blind themselves and say "its just nostalgia" or "its just rose-tinted glasses" and thinking that it's their fault that the world sucks for them, when plain and simply the world just sucks more now, and to ignore that only hurts yourself, because it is like living a disease-filled room and thinking you need to make yourself healthier to not get sick instead of getting rid of the mold infestation that's taking over around you and making you sick
I joined first in 2010 and have played ever since. Yep
I have started Roblox in 2015 and I would not say the old is better
the feel to it still great the same as the new Roblox
i joined roblox in late 2017, back when Jailbreak was at the top (by a huge margin), everything i played then felt alive and unique, but the most happened when the first version of Booga Booga came out somewhere in early 2018, i kept offending people who played it, saying it sucked and overreacting at how bad it is, little did i know that game would change who i am and where i am in life now. when i actually decided to check it out, i immediately got dragged into it, making the most friends i ever made, and the best friends i ever made, that was the happiest i felt ever. that community was the best i have ever joined, creating memories that would last for ages. in late 2018, after months of nonstop playing Booga Booga, my account got hacked, and i lost everything and everyone associated with that account. i became so heart-broken, i havent touched roblox for almost a year before i decided to give it one more chance. i created a new account, with the hopes of meeting the same people, but when i joined the game, not only everything was way different, most people had become more emotionless, not letting me have as much fun as i had a year ago, so i left, never to be seen playing Booga Booga again. at this point its very late in 2019, and roblox seemed like a way more hostile place while compared to pre-2019.
3:23 NO WAY! THEY ALL HAVE THING IN COMMON WAS TOP HAT

You can get your stuff you need, and things could still look nice, as opposed to just trying to dig through a bunch of stuff just to find it in that messy pile.
if you ask me 2020 was probably the last good year of roblox. sure new roblox has some cool features but even before 2020 there were things that were so much better such as the website having the iconic white and blue color scheme, builder's club still existing, the old room you would be in when you went to change your avatar, and just so much more. nowadays 2021-present just felt really out of touch with the roblox we all know and love, especially with layered clothing, dynamic heads replacing the classic 2d faces, and custom characters
this is subjective, my sisters joined roblox in 2022 and they loved it
the reason people say "oh old roblox was so much better" basically the time they joined for the first time is because of NOSTALGIA
the game back then had some features that it doesnt have now like tix or whatever but overall its still almost the same it just became more mainstream because 2017 roblox had only 10% of the players it has today
you became bored of the game because you grew up not because of the changes
@@mikaela43523I dont think the base game changed too much

I remember playing a GTA type game (I don't remember what it was called) I only know it was made by the same people that made Blackhawk rescue mission
I remember maining that game for so long back in like 2016 or 17? Man that's bringing back memories
There wasn't any slenders standing in the background staying silent and walking away if you approached them, everyone would engage and interact with each other and you'll always find yourself a new friend whenever you played a game.
keep up the good work with these really original videos

This game could be way better if the game engine wasn’t so shitty.

There were only like 3 total mods who actually paid attention to it, legoseed, ReeseMcBlox, and gordonrox24.
can confirm the forum bit, shit was wild as hell and not very moderated
We need a mix of the 2. We need Tix back, the old oof sound(Roblox can pay a $10k copyright), R6 emotes, and much more while keeping the graphics of the new stuff. Also, make moderation manual.
Last one is impossible, since there's 40m people, even with 1000 staff, they couldnt moderate at such a rate.
Tix was removed for a reason
I have a simple answer
Roblox wasn't obsessed with Rthro and sure we have UGC now, which people still can't seem to decide whether it's good or bad, but it's all limited and every item is UGC.
ima just say my reasons were the actual passion projects and not just 99% spammy cashgrabs
**oh and my childhood nostalgia from 2016-18**
i joined in 2011 and played pretty consistently up until 2021, where i decided i was done with roblox and ive only been on a couple times to revisit old games since then. i think i got fed up with the entire direction roblox was taking. we stopped getting high effort events every year, the community hasnt felt as tightly knit since the forums were done away with, and roblox is killing their unique art style for something more corporate and broadly appealing.
maybe im just older now and roblox has a lot of nostalgia for me. obviously nothing stays the same, but im glad i got to enjoy the best years while they lasted
People are now making games for the Roblox algorithm, they are designed to optimize for things like playtime and player retention - and above all, make money. It's a lot easier to use tactics that trick players into playing more and spending more than it is to make good games you genuinely want to play again.
they also removed parties, which was such a good feature if you wanted to play with all of ur friends
