I've been living in Ellensburg since June 2014, I was born and raised in Seattle. I'm very happy i made the move here
Glad to hear it! We love it here too! Quite the contrast from Seattle, what made you guys make the move to ellensburg?
This was a really well put-together video of our town. Thank you Joe!
Great video! I’ve lived in Ellensburg since the late 90s, also graduated from Central. I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else!
Thanks for sharing! Love to hear it!
I lived in Eburg for 20 years (I left about 15 years ago) and you captured it well and the pros and cons have not changed.
That’s good to hear! Excited to dive deeper in future videos!
@@LivingInWAState I am still very connected to Eburg... meaning lots of friends there. And I am also a youtuber with 20k followers and I have to say you did a fantastic job with this. Not sure if you were the editor but nice work, I especially loved the way it cut between the people you interviewed.
Good to hear about things staying the same, amidst “all the change”
Whoever named Chicago the "windy city," never experienced the gales of Ellensburg.
I’ve often thought of that myself!
@@LivingInWAState: I've lived in Chicago, and Ellensburg, and am well acquainted with both.
If it wasn’t for the wind, I would totally live there!
Proof I’m telling people the truth! 😂
Just wear headphones and move back
I wish, work is pretty well established in Moses though
I love the personal feel of your own Ellensburg journey and how you had a diverse range of the kinds of people that gave their input! It makes me miss living in Ellensburg 😢
Miss having you in Ellensburg! Excited for your real estate journey and where it will take you in Yakima!
What brokerage are you going with down in Yakima?
Do you know about the Ellens hole
@@kathleenjanus5782 do you mean “Mel’s hole?”
@@kathleenjanus5782 thinking we should do an investigative episode on it?
As for weather, try living on the edge of town in Richland before the cemetery and vineyards were put in. Chinooks are caused by adiabatic heating and cooling of air masses moving up or down hill.
that sounds very windy indeed... I really think that most places in eastern Washington are just windy..
Great video. Make sure to get a Dagwood burger at Campus U-tote-em if you visit. I enjoyed going to school there in the late 80's.
I love the outdoors, hiking biking, dirt biking..I didn't hear you mention fishing? Much fishing there? I liked hearing the young lady say it's a slow lifestyle there, having living in the insanity of Seattle for so many years I want to wind up my life with some peace, I want to go fishing with my dog, take long walks without horrific traffic everywhere, as I said I love the outdoors and it's where I want to spend my last days. I having decided on Ellensburg but it's definitley getting higher on my list. Thank you very much for the informational video, it was very relaxing and I just need a rest.
Completely hear you there on the slow pace of life, that and the outdoor lifestyle is a big part of why I stayed here in Ellensburg! I really appreciate your reply! The traffic here is 100% better than anything on the West Side of the state, but lifetime locals would complain about traffic but it’s nothing. As far as fishing I know that the Yakima is a huge draw for fisherman! I can send you a link to Reds Fly shop, they do guided tours just outside of town! You can also fish down at vantage on the Colombia River (25min east) and I’m glad that the video was helpful for you! If you are interested in looking for a place around here, our team is happy to help you make that transition 👍🏻
Such a great representation of the Burg!
Thanks! This is the first of a few videos of Ellensburg we will be rolling out!
You killed it in your interview!
Yo Joe! I was born and raised in Ellensburg. The town's official wind gauge was installed outside the Safeway before it was remodeled. The wind gauge was a big heavy iron weight suspended by a massive chain. If the chain got to the 3 o'clock or 9 o'clock positions that was considered a light breeze. 😂 Moving back from Seattle in literally two weeks, so excited!
No way! What a cool story, never knew about that weight and chain! I’d love to find an old picture of that! Glad to hear you are coming back to the sunshine!
Felt like you painted a good picture of this town. Nice work.
Thanks cody! Excited to dive deeper in coming videos!
Thanks Cody!
Great video Joe, way to go.
Thank You!
Gonna have to chat with you about growing up in this small town and what it is now!
I'm ready for part two!
in the coming weeks!! be on the lookout!
Coming soon😎🔥
REALLY good production quality👏
Thank you so much! Really had fun sharing about the town we call home, first of a series of videos we are planning to make that highlight what makes this community different!
Thank you! Means a lot! Just getting started and excited at where it’s headed.
Thank you!
“First name is Kent, K-E-N-T” 😂 what a wholesome guy!
He is a national treasure and I am thinking we make a whole video just of his entire interview telling his and Nadine's story.
We love Kent!
What is the breakdown on Asian folks living there?
Born in Seattle, move to CA, basically live my whole life there, went to Vancouver Wa just recently and back to Sacramento, CA. But i feel something is still missing.
Seattle i love it there as well but the cost and the surrounding area there is too much. A handful of families there and Portland.
Vancouver WA was nice but i felt we move too soon there. Kids still young and personal reasons. We might head back to Vancouver WA and stay for a week and see if that is what we want, exlpore other nearby cities.
Did you mentioned windy days, man, we get delta breeze over and love it. Amd you mentioned more sunny days comapre to seattle? Vancouver WA was nice but too many grey days even with some break but still...lol.
Also, Yakima seem nice but Ellensburg might be what we want that Vancouver WA didn't offer us. Idk. We still in our young 40's. Idk.
We want out of California, just saying.
Great video.
I like to add, No Walmart in Ellensburg..and having the lady said not much supplies when needed, bummer.
Maybe Yakima might be it or possible another nearby cities/town.
Really appreciate your thoughts and questions! As jobs have expanded eastward from Seattle, there is a growing diversity in the community which is great to see! Very nice, Northern California is much sunnier than the Seattle/vancouver area! Regarding the sun, all of central Washington has much more sunny days the western Washington the data shows about 70% more sunny days here and is an underrated reason for people
Moving to this region. I personally know many people who work in Yakima and live in Ellensburg so the drive is very manageable. Ellensburg is a lot friendlier environment than Yakima and a wonderful place to raise a family. Let me know if you want to know more about the Ellensburg area and if you want to come and visit, could always give you a list of places to check out to get to know the region!
Bro, yes for you and youtube!!! Weave Emma and the baby in & you will increase your viewship 10 fold.
Deal! Excited to keep it going!
Thanks Brian! Gonna be building this throughout the year! Lots to

Great video!
Thank You, Glad you liked it!
Thank you!
Solid video man, keep spreading the truth about the burg! It's such a hidden gem.
Excited to share more and do a special with you guys!
Thanks Michael! Excited for what’s to come😎
I love Ellensburg and would live there in a heartbeat. I graduated from CWU and always loved the town's vibe. Kent is absolutely right.
That’s awesome, we love it here! Let me know if you ever want to move back, can find you a home!
Awesome video!
Thanks! Let
Me know if you’d like a video like this built about another community!
Love Eburg! My wife was born there. We lived there when I was in seventh, eighth and ninth grade. Then all of us went back to go to college at Central. Then my daughter went there. It’s definitely changed since 1969 but it has also stayed the same. And the Davidson building got a lot of screen time in your video! 😂
I never minded the wind that much. It’s definitely better than this stupid rain.
Wow! That’s awesome lots of family history for you! Central was a great University, I am sure that it is very different compared to 1969! And it sure did didn’t it?
A handful of people told me they like it because it reduced the amount of people that live here!
Go Wildcats! 👍
Go cats!!
Go wildcats!
How dare you leave out my beloved Bulldogs!

Hey! I knnow this place!!
Hey! Thanks for your comment! What would you like me to do a video on next in ellensburg?
The best place!
@LivingInWAState Maybe shoot a quick video of the new Unity Park! You gotta get the Bull in your video if it's going to be truly representative of Eburg!
@@davidinwashington sounds like a plan, once the new park is complete!
@@LivingInWAState I think it opens this weekend (or Monday). Amazing how quickly the contractor finished the old bank demo and the new park. I assume they'll have the Bull returned by the grand opening. I know they took it offsite to keep it safe during construction.
CWU alumni here. I'm moving to the Burg next summer. I cannot wait.
That’s awesome! What year did you graduate?
What are you moving back to Ellensburg for?
@@LivingInWAState cost of living and being closer to more hiking/backpacking opportunities. Plus the slower pace of life.
@@LivingInWAState 1990 with a BA in, don't laugh, Leisure Services - Outdoor Recreation, with several credits in Music.
@@Jennifer-vw1yb those are great reasons!
Let’s talk about the pros of living in a city that’s forced to do whatever Seattle wants them to do
Don’t forgot about living somewhere that is so accepting they allow (and encourage) men to grow mops on their heads
Thanks for the comment, we appreciate your perspective!
😂 sounds like a comment of someone who is wishes they had long hair!
My husband got a job offer and we’re moving near Ellensburg or Cle Elum from California.. and I know nothing and I’m kind of nervous but excited nervous . And scared lol any advice or info would be kool !!
That’s awesome! Both areas are great, going to be making some videos on Cle Elum soon! You are going to love it here! It’s very small town America here, with lots of future development coming, it’s a perfect time to move here, be encouraged!
@@LivingInWAState thnx !!!!! What do teenagers do when they’re bored? My youngest kids are 13&14 and don’t have anywhere to ride bikes to near our house right now and they can’t stand it. Also, where do you guys go shopping for a new outfit ? Hahahaha, thanks !!!
@@renaelmerthere is a BMX track at Rotary Park (and also a great dog park) and there is a skate park downtown. For clothing, you've got Maurices downtown (for the girls) and Bi-Mart, Fred Meyer and Arnold's Ranch and Home for the boys. Hope they like Carhart! 😂
@@renaelmer lots of places to bike around, and yes rotary park is great location! And there are a few boutiques downtown! But for any big brand stores you’ll have to do some driving out of town! Hope this was helpful!
You can ride bikes on the John Wayne trail, lots of wild life to see. It goes all the way up and over Snoqualmie Pass. 😊
Good video, I hope it shows people how great this town is.
I hope so too!
Yes! And it’s a town worth keeping!
I grew up in Eburg, and still live here, about 9 months of the year, live down South during the Winter. I hate to see the town I grew up in, change so much. Used to be a farming, ranching, logging town, with a college, and now its a college town, and a retirement town for folks from the Seattle area, and also a bedroom town for Seattle. If the town keeps changing, this old man of 60 plus years will move somewhere else, thats more like what Eburg once was. I know I will get a lot of thumbs down, but im honest how I feel.
Really Appreciate your thoughts!
Shhhh. No more newbies😊
Hahaha oh dear. Seems the secret is out
Shoot.. 🫢 my bad haha
Wind and the smell of cow manure... yum.
I guess that depends on where in the valley you live!

Naw. He's good.
You need to be less judgmental You need to learn to be quiet
did he get a home run off you or something? 😂
I love how in Washington the government will take your children if you don’t agree with their “gender identity”. They also are making everybody safer with all their wonderful Gun laws and new taxes
Ah, spoken like someone who lives in Idaho! I appreciate your thoughts!
@@LivingInWAState if only you didn’t appreciate tyranny so much too
Love Ellensburg, but it's essentially a city from South Dakota placed in Washington. Hot, cold, & smoky during fire season.
Haha idk how much experience you have in South Dakota, when I played baseball in that area there was way less outdoor recreation than there is here. But yeah, we totally do get all 4 seasons in Ellensburg!
I can't recall a single smoke event in the first 20 years I lived there. (But my Dad did have to shovel our driveway in May after Mt. St. Helens blew!) When we used to manage our forests, we didn't have nearly the same fire risk.
@@davidinwashington this past year was the clearest year we have had in years! Fire season seemed to be quick! Thankful and hoping for another year like that this year!
