  • UELZEN: "Purely a random victim!" Refugee (18) kicks father of a family off stairs in train station - dead
Following the violent death of a 55-year-old man at Uelzen train station, an arrest warrant has been issued against the 18-year-old suspected perpetrator. The young man is said to have pushed or kicked the 55-year-old, according to a police statement. The victim is due to be autopsied today.
According to reports, the elderly man from Lüneburg fell down several steps on Sunday night, suffered a traumatic brain injury and died at the scene despite resuscitation efforts. The 18-year-old initially fled the Hundertwasser train station and was arrested that night.
The alleged perpetrator is a Moroccan who has been living in accommodation for asylum seekers in Uelzen since June, said police spokesman Kai Richter. The 18-year-old is being investigated for manslaughter. A blood test should show whether he was under the influence of drugs. According to information from the spokesman, the North African came to Germany as an unaccompanied refugee in 2021 and is currently tolerated.
18-year-old released from police custody shortly before
According to the investigations so far, the suspected perpetrator and the 55-year-old did not know each other. It was unclear whether an argument preceded the push up the stairs.
The young man had been released from police custody just a few hours before the 55-year-old's death. He had previously been arrested for pickpocketing, assault and drug-related offences. At the bus station in Uelzen, the 18-year-old is said to have hit a 31-year-old in the face with the palm of his hand.
The police are currently evaluating video sequences from the station and are still looking for witnesses who saw the crime.
