    After watching, among others, your movie, I ordered the Urban shepherd scout model. Will be delivered at the end of January.I'm a bit afraid because I didn't see them live or tried them.

    As an American, listening to your proper "King's English" (as my gramma called it) is such a pleasure. The wide and ranging vocabulary, combined with the perfect review voice, is such a refreshing change of pace to the desecration of the English language currently happening here. I strongly urge you to post samples of your voiceover readings on American voice web sites where producers and other punters go to hire voices they like! Getting so desperate for new videos that I'm in the process of re-watching your video library. From a snowy Minnesota, cheers!

    The only socks I wear anymore are Darn Tough. They are the best socks ever made in my opinion. And they have a lifetime warranty, so I’ll never have to buy socks again. I can’t imagine ever going back to cotton socks.
    These are fine looking boots although I’ve grown to hate blocky heels on my shoes. Tapered heels feel so much better to walk in. In my military days I used to drag the back of my blocky combat boot heels on the road while riding my motorcycle to put a bit of an angle on them. It made them much easier to do road marches in.

      Darn Tough is amazing but Carhartt has a pretty great all season cotton sock. Made in the USA and in a 3 pack.

    Do you still think this is one of the best values? Would be awesome to see an update if you still have these urban shepard boots. I'm in the USA and have a friend in the Netherlands that needs a good pair of boots that'll last a long time. I'll subscribe to see if there's any further updates! Thanks for this review, I always had my eye on these since like 5 years ago, lol.

      You DON’T need to size up. They fit true to size. At least the ones I have fit true to size as recommended by Urban Shepard. If you are a half size in your normal shoes then I guess going up might be the right move. Overall they are a really good boot. The leather is not as thick as on the Beckman’s but overall it still feels like it will last and be roubust. The Beckman’s are built like a tank and feel a lot more solid but they are a lot heavier. The Shepherds are a fantastic summer boot. I agree that the laces need swapping out. I used the yellow 48” redwing laces, they look awesome 😎

    Old hiking buddy swears by wearing those super thin nylon socks / stockings (I mean the material women's nylons are made of) as a base layer, then either a thin liner sock and then a padded hiking sock or leave out the liner.
    Apparently the nylon socks are really good at reducing friction.
    I just ordered a pair of urban shepherd's country boots which will be my first ever Goodyear welted boots and I think I'll try that triple layer method for breaking them in...

    I also have these same boots and I noticed on one boot the leather welt was spliced and there are two pieces of leather used to make the welt. I was just wondering if you saw anything like this on your pairs that you own. My one scout boot looks as though they used three pieces of scrap leather to make the welt. It’s a little disappointing.

    Bought these after seeing your review, thanks! I like the style and leather very much. I sized up (normally 43, got a 44) and that was good advice. They are indeed very nicely made and a great value at 225 usd. Got them in ~4 weeks. I am on day 3 breaking them in. I am curious how you found them breaking in? The tops of my toes are taking a beating and the rim up on the ankle is doing it’s best to wear into my skin. Been trying various sock thicknesses to no avail but they don’t seem to be yielding much yet. Will continue to wear them and hope they give in before I do 😉. I think U S heard your comment on the shoestrings. Mine came with 3 pairs of varying colors (a nice red one as well). The default tan ones on the boot seem nice and heavy, if a tad short for my taste. I have one complaint. The footpad is a thin piece of leather glued to foam footpad. This glue has already come loose on both boots. I glued them back myself with some good contact cement but I shouldn’t have had to. Other than that, great looking and nicely made boots!

    • @DevonReviewer
      @DevonReviewer  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree the way the leather folds at the edge of the toe cap makes for a tougher break in, but is will get there. With regards the heel issue you have I wonder if it could be remedied by tightening the laces a little more to stop the movement of your heel within the boot?
      I have just taken delivery of their Backroad model and sized up, definitely room for a pair of thick socks in those, I will post some thoughts soon!

      @@DevonReviewerHi, thanks for the reply. I am taking a break for a few days to let a blister on the top of my second toe heal. Will get back to it when I can stand it. It isn't my heel, that is perfect and I like the swede heel piece in there. That is usually a sore point for me but not in this case. The bit that is bugging me is the top rim up around the ankle. I can ease the pain a bit by not using the top 1 or two holes and tightening down lower. Of course that means it will take even longer to soften that up. Oh the sacrifices we make ;-)

    Excellent review, DR. These look like my kind of boot. So, as a UK 10, would you recommend sizing up to 11? I would be wanting to wear thicker socks with them.

    • @saoirsefitzpatrick1123
      @saoirsefitzpatrick1123 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i'd suggest taking a look at their website (and I believe DR mentioned adding ~7mm to your measurement) and finding their size guide. If you're gonna wear them with good thick socks, pop on that pair of socks and measure with them, then follow that 7 or so millimeters. I've a pair of originals on the way and I'm usually a UK8 which I got so I'll reply to my own comment on this video about my experience with them.
      You can email them as well if you still aren't sure. Tiago got back to me pretty quickly all things considered.

    So it's a waxed suede rather than a proper roughout. I guess that's partly how they can get away with such low prices - using split leather rather than top grain or full grain. And calfskin on these kind of boots don't seem like the best idea either.
