    Love how you actually fight the fish all the way instead of these guys that sit back and watch the electric reel do all the work and harpoon it when the poor thing is already exhausted. Loved how you fought it in the harness. That’s a true fight, id kill for a fight like that. Well done.

    3 years ago I lost a 14ft SF in Cabo about 20ft from the boat, probably the worst feeling ever. People underestimate the dedication and struggles of big game fishing, props to anyone who can manually land one.

    This was a straight up epic fight!!! Excellent for actually fighting the fish like that! Respect! Seriously this was a once in a lifetime fight this was just epic i wanted to do a backflip when you finally got it! lol It actually reminded me of Hemingway's "The old man and the sea" lol You guys are making me so homesick all these saltwater fishing vids! Im a native southwest floridian and i used to go diving and fishing in the keys every year its one of the most beautiful places in the world and its my favorite place in america. Theres no light pollution in the keys due to the fact that the islands branch hundreds of miles off the mainland and the islands simply dont throw much light so the stars hang right above your head by the millions and dip down and touch the water on the horizon! Waters crystal clear turqoise with a hundred ft visibility. Its so beautiful. See right now im landlocked in the mountains like 500 miles from the nearest ocean. I cant live long away from the sea. Yall have the best jobs in the world period who wants to be so imprisoned making money such a slave to making money that they only see the ocean once a year?! Never let money enslave you! True freedom is worth more than all the money on earth. Excellent video epic fight! Nice nice fish! Im a bit jealous about this one i cant help it this was awesome. Such a beautiful swordfish from my home waters! Im afraid i wouldve had to let it go though if i could. If i could save it i would. Because its like the incarnation of the spirit of my home. That fish is like the ocean incarnate. Thats a wonder of God seriously what a beauty...

    #1 on the bucket list is to land a sword.
    I see so many guys in ft.lauderdale catching them all the time its just such a technical type of fishing if you don't have someone to teach you then the learning curve is massive so so so much time you have to put in .you can do it for years and still learn something every single time you do it.

    • @LocalKnowledge
      @LocalKnowledge  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's probably the most technical fishery but the payoff is awesome.

    Consider using a deep drop light next time, or a small glow stick at your crimp, helps to orient the fish at night. Also, kill the deck lights and use an underwater light and you wont be working against yourselves not being able to see

    • @LocalKnowledge
      @LocalKnowledge  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      WE use a large LP light at the top of the leader and one or two smaller lights about 8' above the bait. Great tip!

    When you pulled the line to you, the braid touched the bridge of the reel. That’s what made the line break. Some reels have a sharp enough edge to cut and some don’t.

    You can catch them at night way higher up too. Here in Hawaii we handline at night for tuna. Deepest bait is only 20 fathom. Youd be suprised how many swords you catch at night burning light

    • @LocalKnowledge
      @LocalKnowledge  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes sir! That was the only way until about 12 years ago. The Florida sword gurus tell us they switched to daytime because you get more bites and you get to sleep at night. But you're right, they will bite at under 400' at night.

    At 7:02 I believe he cut the line on the face of the reel by accident. Sometimes there are imperfections or fine rough edges left over from the machining process; sometimes unnoticeable and maybe even more common than we think. Pulling a line upward in this fashion during a fight towards the housing can create abrasion on the line therefore a heartbreak could be underway. Lots of guys make this mistake while an angler is fighting a big fish to get an idea of fish size, feel, etc. which is why I put a piece of black electrical tape on the inside upper lip of my reel. Hope this tip helps someone! Happy Fishing!

    • @LocalKnowledge
      @LocalKnowledge  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are 100% correct and we had no idea that was even possible. It was pointed out later on and we now put tape on the reel cross bar!

    What's the easiest way to tell difference between a swordfish and a marlin? Do marlin have thinner bills than swordfish? And do swordfish jump when they're hooked?

    • @LocalKnowledge
      @LocalKnowledge  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The easiest way is look at the dorsal fin. The swordfish dorsal is rigid and ends abruptly. A marlin will have a dorsal that runs all the way down it's back toward the tail. Also, a sword bill is shape like a sword. A marlins bill is more round. Thanks for watching.

      awesome show I really enjoy watching all your shows. But ya like carl said the line broke cause of you two pulling the line up against the support bar of the reel. Some of the reels have really sharp edges on the undersides of those cross bars and they can slice through braid super easy. An easy fix is to put a piece of electrical tape over that edge and that will stop the reel from being able to cut into the braid.

    Hey Rush, 1st) Awesome video! and 2nd) Why did you back off the drag when you got him near the boat?

    • @AliHussainy
      @AliHussainy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Glad you enjoyed. We usually back the drag off a little with any big fish next to the boat. You leader is short which doesn't provide much stretch in case of a sudden big run or jerk. Also, it takes a little pressure off the angler in case they need to make a quick move around the boat or motors.

    • @MrGb4ever
      @MrGb4ever 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ali Hussainy I see and thanks for the feedback! Back in the day of Zane Grey or Lou Maron you would be lucky to hook a Swordfish once in your lifetime let alone land one but now in this time Swordfish are plentiful and guys are catching them during the day...But back then anyone that was lucky enugh to go to battle with a swod would keep a light drag because of the soft mouth...They may have one shot at it so even if it took hours it was worth.....So the Tuna fisherman claim they are a better fighter because you can`t stick it to a Sword the way you can a Tuna...But today because Swords are so plentiful guys do lock down their drags to 45 lbs on these fish and they still ended up fighting 500 to 600 lbs Swords for 7 to up to 11 hours on 80 lb tackle..And on top of that sometimes there is two guys taking turns on the rod applying maximum pressure throughout the whole fight...So the fact that it took you guys as long as it did to subdue that fish was not really uncommon...Great job!

    Rush, if you look up a video on here by RJ Boyle he demonstrates what happened on the braid breaking when the first sword was on. The bodies of certain bridged reels have a sharp edge on the inside of the bridge. when you checked the drag pressure you cut the line. th-cam.com/video/z1Piaa4Vq8A/w-d-xo.html
