- We have now arrived in Kathmandu, Nepal. As luck would have it, the Holi festival was about to begin. (Luck of the Irish). And I am very grateful that I got to experience it first-hand.
Holi festival is one of the most popular and significant festivals in Hinduism. It celebrates the eternal and divine love of the god Radha and Krishna.
Walking through the famous Durbar square, you will find yourself surrounded by thousands of colourful faces ready to greet you with a face full of fresh new paint. There is enough to go around for everyone. Watch out for rouge water balloons. The local children have a sharp aim for new tourists and rarely fail to miss. All in good fun.
After the festival and a nice shower, it was time to party with one of the most welcoming families I've had the pleasure of meeting. My friend and I got invited to a Brathabanda. There were terrific dances, music and enough food and drinks for an army.
Bratabandha is a ceremony to signify the transition from boyhood into manhood.
