    I like how he says “we’ll just give her a girlfriend in college” but there was foreshadowing! Vampire Willow...Willow “I’m so evil and skanky and I think I’m kind of gay”

    • @schattentaenzerin

      Joss planned for either Willow or Xander to be gay or bi from very early on. From what I remember, the executives were not on board then. But he dropped hints for both characters over time (like Xander being very into Riley or the way he talked about Spike sometimes, or Larry thinking he was gay, like him) and when Seth decided to leave the show, it was a perfect opportunity.
      I really love this couple a lot. It meant so much to me.
      still sad they ruined it with that new girlfriend that came out of nowhere, when Willow and Tara had such a beautiful build up to their relationship.

Threatened to turn Dawn back into the key, summoned tree root monsters to kill Buffy and Dawn, and also would have most likely killed Anya and Buffy had Giles not interfeared. The most heartbreaking thing about Tara's death is how accidental it was. She wasn't even in the scene with Warren; she was just alone in a room with Willow. She was like those children that are killed in drive-by shootings: a pure soul, who had nothing to do with that fight, yet she dies because a hateful character decides to shoot people, and then a stray bullet ends her, right in front of her beloved.

    The whole addiction story arc aside, Willow had the best relationships. Both Oz and Tara were loving, treated her as an equal, with respect, appreciation and support. It was everything one could hope for really, the wholesome counterbalance to all the messed up crap everybody else was going through on the regular.

    • @Kratos-GodOfWar
      @Kratos-GodOfWar 3 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      No kidding. I mean when Angel and Buffy went to hell in a handbasket and Xander went and fell for Cordy, Willow got Oz, one of the coolest dudes on the show. He played in a band, he had a van, 3x out the month, was a wolf-man, was so chill, never pilled, and when he was around, he was only for Will.
      Then came Tara 😍 need I say more? Yes, quite shy, and I never got why, but why oh why did she have to die? Never got why she wasn't brought into the Scoobies till Season 5, not on the dot. Love Tara, and Oz. Willow became an inspiration to Tara because of Oz, and became what can only be described as a Goddess because of Tara.
      But then there's Kennedy. She's not bad. But the bar had become quite high by Season Seven. Let's just say, instead of introducing a new character, they should brought Oz back for Season Seven

    Did anyone else notice? When this episode aired, Amber Benson was included in the opening cast credits for the first and only time. In every other episode, she was listed after the first commercial break. It's interesting that the most affecting deaths in the show were both not supernatural. Buffy's mom was awful and it was illness, Tara was murdered by a common gun in the hands of a human. I think the power of that is relatability. A death by a demon isn't going to strike home like a death any one could face. The horror of the surprise of it in a world filled with so much fantasy. Both were so sudden and traumatic experiences for the characters.

      @@StevenTyler94 Fred was still alive though, because she is the corporeal being of Illyria.. and as for Darla, she was great in season 3 (i think) of Angel, and they should of included her on opening credits on that season too! For Cordelia, if she stays in Buffy I see her being killed off on the series finale similar to Anya's death. But since she moved to Angel, her death is more meaningful, and she actaully ascended because she is a higher being now. And as for Tara, she deserved much much better! She should had been included on opening credits since season 5 all the way through series finale, and never killed off!

      @@theunimpressedbeetch Yes I think Tara should’ve been a series regular for Buffy in season 5-6 and Darla should’ve been a series regular for Angel seasons 2-3. I think Darla’s arc is tragic because she really never had a chance when she was brought back. Then with Cordelia I feel like it would’ve been better if she never ascended. And with Illyria, I wasn’t a fan of that story arc at all. Even though Amy Acker did great in that role, I just thought it was a poor decision.

    • @dvt1393
      @dvt1393 6 ปีที่แล้ว +133

      From what I understand, the reason that they decided to label her as totally gay from her relationship with Tara forward was because Joss was worried that the gay community would take that as a betrayal and tar and feather them if she ever was seen as anything but a lesbian in relationships with women. After such a lovely portrayal as a same sex couple, that may have appeared to invalidate homosexuality, especially if she ever dated another man. Of course, it would have been just as brave and more realistic if she were identified to be bi. I think that it actually ended up invalidating Oz, and what their relationship meant to Willow and to the fans.

    • @chrisofnottingham
      @chrisofnottingham 6 ปีที่แล้ว +96

      Plenty of people I know who now identify as lesbian did in fact have boyfriends first. Ironically, it's like being straight was just going through a phase :-)

    • @celia1888
      @celia1888 6 ปีที่แล้ว +90

      chris4072511 it's not about having a boyfriend so much as Willow actually loved and was attracted to both Xander and Oz. People who usually go through the heterosexual phase don't have those they may like the person and like the physical part bexause of the mechanics involved but there's no attraction (like an aro/ace person who tries relationships). Making Willow more likely bisexual with a preference for women

    • @crimsonmadness7767
      @crimsonmadness7767 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Agreed. Tara's death was for me worst then Joyce's although that ep was a masterpiece (The ep in which Joyce dies) And I never understood why Willow with all that power coursing through her veins simply didn't cast a time travel spell to go back in time and make her move away from that bloody window? Why does she give up only because that Minosse-thing said that it was done? She had the power to bloody summon Persephone and you are telling me that she didn't even think about something like time travel wtf? This is why I never moved on from her death because I feel like there was something that could have been done to avoid it.

    • @rmsgrey
      @rmsgrey 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      One of the unwritten rules of the Buffy-verse is that magic can't/isn't permitted to interfere in the natural course of events. Tara died an entirely mundane death, with nothing supernatural about it, so magic couldn't touch it; Buffy died (the second time) a magical death, so magic could restore her to life. Buffy's first (and third) death was mundane, but within the scope of mundane resuscitation.

    • @crimsonmadness7767
      @crimsonmadness7767 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      rmsgrey
      The first time Buffy dies is entirely magical, the Master kills her... anyway I know what you are saying but Willow is different she is not a "Normal" magical user as we saw in s7, Willow for all intents and purposes it's a Goddess and she kills that Minosse-thing that impose that rule and there was not only the time travel spell, she could have removed the bullet like she does for Buffy, she could have put a spell of restoration and I can go on. I think that simply he wanted to go on with his story like he always does and not caring too much about this. Not flaming mind you I do like Joss he is a genius but this death and Anya's (Totally uneccesary there were other characters that could have died instead) are the only things for which I resent him a bit :D

    • @rmsgrey
      @rmsgrey 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Buffy's first death is drowning in a pool of water. Yes, the Master drained her immediately before that, but non-lethally. Xander's resuscitation works because she only drowned, rather than being killed by blood-loss or a killing spell.
      You might want to look at btvschosen.com/s8/ep_free.php - a fan continuation of the series (currently on indefinite hiatus in the middle of S9, but their S8 is worth it).
      And, yeah, the real reason Tara couldn't be resurrected is because she needed to die for the story (much like Joyce couldn't be resurrected in S5). But it is consistent with the rest of the Buffy-verse - interactions with mortals are strictly limited, particularly when it comes to greater magics, and major magic always has a price...

    • @crimsonmadness7767
      @crimsonmadness7767 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      rmsgrey
      You are right, sorry I only remembered the Master biting her. I understand what you are saying but to me is still something that was treated way too lightly. Joyce's death warranted an entire episode and it was in line with her illness, still sudden but still it wasn't completely out of nowhere. Tara's was sudden, out of nowhere and it was "discarded" way too soon, Willow only summons the Minosse-thing and she doesn't try anything else, that to me was unacceptable. He could have shown us Willow trying everything and when everything didn't work go on like she did. I'm sorry I won't change my opinion about this. Major magic always has a price but only when it's dark though because when Willow uses a major quantity of light magic (The Scythe spell) she becomes a Goddess and in the comics not only she time-travels but she moves in other dimensions and so on...So really the rules he did bend them when he wanted to. Joss was and still is someone that really doesn't care much about ppl, he does his story like he plans and there is no way around it :D

    To this day theirs and Xena and Gabrielle are the most well-written romance in a tv show because it wasn't about labels but about two people that fell in love. Now writers and creators don't have this kind of sensibility anymore it's a cliché after the other. When Tara died I was extremely upset I cried and cried and although Evil Willow was very cool for me it wasn't worth it and I never understood why Willow with all that power simply didn't cast a time travel spell to go back in time and make Tara move away from that bloody window. I think that it would have been something that she SHOULD have tried to do. Yeah yeah, I know but she was all evil and in revenge mode but still, the love of her life just died I think her priority should have been trying everything she could think of before going all mass murderer.
