Crazy is the point for Primus. All the musicians are incredible, so they can do what they want. The groove is deep, but those triplets, though: Wow! Sadly, this song does NOT hold the record for history's deepest groove, an honor that shall forever belong to Rufus & Chaka Khan for Tell Me Something Good. It's just science, people. :)
Editor, I like your notes. I've been listening to Primus for 20 years now... and I am only 33. I adore this band. I hope you do more. "Groundhog's Day" from the same concert would be a gem to check out next. Good bit off improv/jam in it too! (you would swear it was written)
I’ve seen them several times, twice from very close to the stage. I’m still not entirely convinced Les isn’t hiding a couple of extra knuckles somewhere. Brilliant musicians, and worth seeing live (they tour periodically).
The label on the microphone says Sandman in homage to Mark the sandman from the band Morphine, he used to always use that kind of mic It's a great band, react to anything from them live, just a slide bass, saxophone and a drummer 😁
Les Claypool - is the godfather of trolling - like early RHCP, it is a California sound. As a bassplayer he doesn't obey conventions. What might let your head explode is the song Wynona's Big Brown Beaver . I lately rediscovered Primus after taking them as not so serious. Here I am commenting on 1 of your videos in 5 minutes. Primus was a local band when I was in college. At the time of this recording, they'd been playing that song for almost 25 years. Check out Suck On This, their self-released live album from 1989 (Tommy the Cat is on it)
I'm a HUGE Les Claypool fan, but that man doesn't have shit on Jaco. Jaco is so criminally underrated by people who don't listen to jazz. It's pretty sad.

the Sandman sticker is a tribute to the late, great Mark Sandman, bassist of the band Morphine, who gave Les the idea to use those broadcast mics. Primus is proof that if you're good enough, you can be silly weirdos.
I can NOT stress enough how much u need to READ the lyrics while listening to this to understand the how difficult and good he is and then u pay attention to the rest of the band, then your like WTF!!
Old school humor, an extreme avant-garde silliness, virtuosic musicianship, a deep passion for fishing, ridiculous song topics, and an extremely unique stage presence. This is Primus. This is why they suck.

You should react to their song “Over The Electric Grapevine” from this same performance of Bonnaroo 2011, probably my favorite track of theirs at the moment and it plays so well live.
I have got to say this is one of the greatest reactions to Primus who I have watched for many years coming up in the Bay area of California and you just nailed it

I saw Primus live 4 times. They have by far had the best bassist of all time. I have seen live Blondie, The Ramones, Black Sabbath, Oingo Boingo, Metallica, Nirvana, Rage Against the Machine and a hundred more bands. So that means a lot in my opinion.
In most Primus songs the lyrics are not really important, they are mostly just something to have fun with and are usually just kind of goofy and just move the sound forward and break up the instruments.
I was in high school when I first heard them. I first thought they were so weird but yet so good. So much energy. This brings me back memories of driving to the beach and surfing with friends.

Well, I remember it as though it were a meal ago
Said Tommy the Cat as he reeled back to clear whatever foreign matter
May have nestled its way into his mighty throat
Many a fat alley rat had met its demise while staring point-blank down
The cavernous barrel of this awesome prowling machine
Truly a wonder of nature, this urban predator
Tommy the cat had many a story to tell
But it was a rare occasion such as this that he did
Well, she came sliding on down the alleyway like butter drippin' off a hot biscuit
The aroma, the mean scent, was enough to arouse suspicion in
Even the oldest of Tigers that hung around the hot spot in those days
The sight was beyond belief
Many a head snapped for double, even triple takes as this vivacious
Feline made her way into the delta of the alleyway
Where the most virile of the young tabbies were known to hang out
They hung out in droves
Such a multitude of masculinity could only be found in one place, and that was O'Malley's Alley
The air was thick with catcalls, no pun intended
But not even a muscle in her neck did twitch as she sauntered straight to behind the alleyway
She knew what she wanted
She was looking for that stud bull
She was looking for that He-cat
And that was me
Tommy the Cat is my name and I say unto thee
Say baby, do you wanna lay down with me?
Say, baby, do you wanna lay down by my side?
