It also doesn't hurt that he surrounds himself with some of the best musicians he can find - and they aren't trying to outdo each other - all 3 are playing complimentary music. I know this comment is overrated, but Ler never gets enough credit. He doesn't play the rhythm parts for the verses and then solo when it's time for the guitar solo - he is literally soloing the entire time in basically every Primus song.

Crazy is the point for Primus. All the musicians are incredible, so they can do what they want. The groove is deep, but those triplets, though: Wow! Sadly, this song does NOT hold the record for history's deepest groove, an honor that shall forever belong to Rufus & Chaka Khan for Tell Me Something Good. It's just science, people. :)

The label on the microphone says Sandman in homage to Mark the sandman from the band Morphine, he used to always use that kind of mic
It's a great band, react to anything from them live, just a slide bass, saxophone and a drummer 😁

Les Claypool - is the godfather of trolling - like early RHCP, it is a California sound. As a bassplayer he doesn't obey conventions. What might let your head explode is the song Wynona's Big Brown Beaver . I lately rediscovered Primus after taking them as not so serious. Next to Thundercat and Victor Wooten a real force is advanced Bass playin' (of course there is Laboriel and Bootsy, too).

Let's take Yngwie Malmsteen vs Malcolm Young for instance..... we both know who's the better player, but who would you rather listen to (no dis to Jaco)? If it's technical proficiency vs writing a song everyone can rock out to, I'll take the latter over the former any day...... my 2 cents anyways. Be well.

Well, I remember it as though it were a meal ago
Said Tommy the Cat as he reeled back to clear whatever foreign matter
May have nestled its way into his mighty throat
Many a fat alley rat had met its demise while staring point-blank down
The cavernous barrel of this awesome prowling machine
Truly a wonder of nature, this urban predator
Tommy the cat had many a story to tell
But it was a rare occasion such as this that he did
Well, she came sliding on down the alleyway like butter drippin' off a hot biscuit
The aroma, the mean scent, was enough to arouse suspicion in
Even the oldest of Tigers that hung around the hot spot in those days
    The sight was beyond belief
Many a head snapped for double, even triple takes as this vivacious
Feline made her way into the delta of the alleyway
Where the most virile of the young tabbies were known to hang out
    They hung out in droves
Such a multitude of masculinity could only be found in one place, and that was O'Malley's Alley
The air was thick with catcalls, no pun intended
But not even a muscle in her neck did twitch as she sauntered straight to behind the alleyway
    She knew what she wanted
She was looking for that stud bull
She was looking for that He-cat
    And that was me
Tommy the Cat is my name and I say unto thee
Say baby, do you wanna lay down with me?
Say, baby, do you wanna lay down by my side?
Ah, baby, do you wanna lay down with me?
    Say, baby, say, baby
Say, baby, do you wanna lay down with me?

Say, baby, do you wanna lay down with me?

But I promise you to be even more confused in the same way as this - more than once. But continue to also explore Primus and other Les Claypool cooperations like with Buckethead or Lennon jr.

Les Claypool has several side projects that are worth checking out, Oysterhead ((with Trey Anastasio and Stewart Copeland), Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains (with Buckethead, Bryan Mantia, and Bernie Worrell), and The Claypool Lennon Delirium (with Sean Lennon). I'm partial to The Claypool Lennon Delirium for it's psychedelic sensibility with Les' wackiness and it sounds like John Lennon singing half the time.

8:42 it sounds so full becuase the guitarist finds all the right notes then he plays the anything else lol so the guitar and bass clash ...it really shouldnt work but it does only becuase les can make the bass sing so you are focusing on the base then you got the guitar melting your brain in the backgorund

Ler is highly overlooked, master of wrong notes in the wrong key and the wrong tempo but genius in striving to find that spot

Try some Ween. They are another band of serious musicians that don't take themselves too seriously. The only problem is all the songs sound different, so you'll have to listen to more than one. Maybe start with Voodoo Lady -live in Chicago

I don't get people who complain about not understanding the words in a song. I don't think I've ever heard a single song where I understood all the words without looking up lyrics. If you really care about the lyrics that badly just look it up.

You know on second thought maybe I could understand all the words to a britney spears song. I guess all musicians should strive to be pop music.
