  • Masashi Narita gives the keynote lecture at the 2024 Symposium on Physical Genomics at Northwestern University.
Dr. Narita is a group leader at Cancer Research UK, Cambridge Institute (CRUK-CI) and Professor of Senobiology in the Department of Oncology at the University of Cambridge. Originally trained as a surgeon in Osaka, Japan, Masashi pursued a basic research PhD focusing on apoptosis before transitioning to Cold Spring Harbor Laboratories for his postdoctoral research. There, he began work on the epigenetic aspects of senescence and identified senescence-associated heterochromatic foci (SAHFs), which have since become widely utilised as a senescence marker. His work also pinpointed structural proteins essential for SAHF formation (Narita et al. Cell 2003, 2006).
Sponsored by the Center for Physical Genomics and Engineering at Northwestern University, the Cancer and Physical Sciences Program at the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center, and NIH grants T32GM142604 and U54CA268084
