    I loved this video! Going to be honest I was worried when I saw “minimalist” because most TH-cam minimalists tend to buy very expensive products just for aesthetics it seems. This was a really practical video and you have such a cute personality!

    I preferred the Medela hand pump+hakkaa combo over my electric pump! Less parts to clean, surprisingly faster, and I could do it wherever without being tied to an outlet

    I saw in the comments you wanted to use cloth. It is totally overwhelming to look at to begin with. If you look up “the nappy guru” you can do a questionnaire which recommends cloth to suit you. Get a couple and if it doesn’t work you can sell them on for practically the same price. Remember that it isn’t all or nothing and just using one a day saves 500 nappies from a landfill.
    You are going to be amazing and your “see how it goes” attitude is really going to benefit you as a new mum. Everything is trial and error xxxxx

    • @ruthfindlay6743
      @ruthfindlay6743 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I really thought you were talking about an online questionnaire. But this appears to be a sales questionnaire where you are given a personalized answer. I would love an automated questionnaire that wouldn't make me feel guilty wasting someone's time when I'm not going to buy their product.

    • @janebyrne6585
      @janebyrne6585 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ruth Findlay - yeah, they email personally; they seem passionate about cloth so I don’t think they would be upset about you gathering info and shopping elsewhere! Xx

    I would recommend to any new mom to be, not to buy stuff beforehand. Wait and see what your baby needs. People tell you you need stuff that may applied to their baby, but isn't essential to your baby's needs. And borrow stuff to try it out first. Things like bouncy chairs, carriers, etc. Baby might hate them. Some babies do. Borrowing items, trying out what worked for my baby and then purchasing if I needed it, saved me loads of money.

    • @ruthfindlay6743
      @ruthfindlay6743 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally agree, especially if you know you'll have a good baby shower. It doesn't have to be expensive. Anything you're not sure about, borrow ahead of time if at all possible.
      This did backfire for me in terms of carriers. I wish I had at least an idea of what and where to purchase one ahead of time, instead of listening to the advice, wait to see what your baby likes, took me more than 2 months to get something and almost 5 months before I got something that was ergonomic and worked for the whole family. (thrift store miracle, 3 carriers at $25 total including an infantino, a mei tai and a ergobaby360.) At 2 months i finally found a local carrier group that had a selection to try on and test, I would recommend finding a group while you're pregnant.
      On that note, join new mom groups when you're pregnant and you might find people to borrow from and great insight.

    Hi minimalist mama of soon to be 3! I’m a little surprised you didn’t go with cloth diapers and wipes. No judgment was just surprised. Also those butt spatula is the best thing on the planet! I have 2 per kid 🤣 1 for changing around the house and 1 for the diaper bag. I just don’t want the same spatula on different cheeks 😅 also insurance might cover an electric pump.

    Our duck works already almost year)) Pampers pure the best 👍🏻 but also we using Charlie Banana at home, so nice cloth diapers! About Ergobaby, we had black first also, but in the desert gray one thick is the best option for you and for baby, so we got original and Omni360, it’s not so hot in there. About swaddlers SwaddleMe is nice (transition ones) if you want spend less, after 5-6 months we stopped swaddle and easy went to wearable blanket that much more safe.

    Love it, so much fun getting ready for baby. I have watched some of your newer vlogs, your little guy is very sweet. I'm a mom to 8 kids and essentials for me where cloth diaps. and slings and carriers of all sorts. I have found ergo , Lila baby, boba wrap etc. All second hand. I had to laugh about the nose cleaner for 26$ I've never heard of that. I just would use a warm wash cloth or a q tip. I'm curious if you used the nose cleaner.

    I preferred the manual pump in the early days of breastfeeding. Cos I was sore. Like, a lot. And the electric pump started off way too harsh, making me cringe. With manual pump I was able to start off very very softly. And it was also quiet enough to use close to the baby after she fed and was dozing off.

    Focusing on the essentials
    Crib, crib mattress, pack n play (portable for Grandma or when I’m in the kitchen), stroller, car seat.
    A few pieces of clothing and towels.
    Everything else, I’ll buy if I need.
    I’m in the US and I’ve seen my clients receive tons of goodies from the hospital (diapers, diaper cream, formula and clothing).
    Also, I don’t know if baby will wear newborn or 0-3 months.
    I’m keeping all my receipts and only shop from stores where I can return/exchange 60 or 90 days later.

    When you are at home, just wash your baby's butt in the sink with water and dry with a towel. It helps the most against diaper rash, as well as keeping them naked from time to time. Plus is the most efficient.
    The first month you should give a sponge bath and not bathe, according to the doctors and midwives in Germany. And then for months you can use water with no detergent. Babies are not really dirty.
    The nose sucker and pucker are not useful. The sucker powered by the vacuum is the most efficient.
    If you would be doing baby led weaning, that bib is also useless. Just do it in a diaper only.
    Babies can be fed through various devices, such as a spoon or a cup, just in case.

    • @ruthfindlay6743
      @ruthfindlay6743 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Totally agree with all of this.
      I do EC occasionally so we're in the bathroom a lot and the sink is so convenient. Wipe them off with toilet paper or a baby cloth, hose them down in the sink and dry them with their towel. I haven't used wipes for months.
      I live in a hot climate and my baby spends a lot of time in diapers. During meals he eats with no bib and then gets hosed off in the shower.
      My pediatrician recommended cup feeding and I've realized that even though its easier to leave a bottle with a babysitter, your breastfed baby never needs to learn to use a bottle. Cup, spoon, syringe, etc. All viable options.
      Also, I loved my manual pump. I was an exclusive breastfeeder, so I wasn't going to buy a pump, but I had trouble the first week and bought the cheapest option, manual, to help draw out milk. I was so surprised that it was super efficient for me. If you practice and as your milk comes in, you can hand express as well. It will seem impossible at the beginning, but it will get easier and great for an exclusive breastfeeder who don't want to buy more than just a hakka.

    Great idea on making your own swaddle! What fabric did you pick? The burnt orange fabric looks exactly like the Max and Moose one I have in my registry and it’s $45! I would love to see your video on how you make your play mat because I purchased one from value village but it doesn’t have enough cushion for the baby. I love and appreciate your content girl, I am due February 2021 and it’s really helping me minimize my registry and expectations because this baby thing is overwhelming and expensive! Thank you! I keep thinking to myself, back in the day they didn’t need cribs or bassinets they used a dresser drawer or a Moses basket. My have we evolved into something completely different lol.

    • @AshleyEmbers
      @AshleyEmbers  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello! For the swaddle I don’t remember exactly what the fabric blend was, I think it was mostly cotton with some spandex. I mostly went on feel, stretchy and soft. I know, swaddles can be SO expensive! I’ll be coming out with a video soon talking about how I made the play mat so watch out for that. Congratulations on the pregnancy! Baby gear can definitely be overwhelming so I’m glad I can help 😊

    The silicone bib remark cracks me up. So that food doesn't end up everywhere. Food WILL end up everywhere, unless feeding toddler inside a plastic tent. I preferred fabric bibs so they could double as wipes for quick food drop/dribble catches. For play mat I used a yoga mat. You'll find out why wipeable surfaces on play mats are ideal ;) Never used a drying rack, bottle brush or bottle heater. I used a pot, cooked water, boiled bottle clean and let them air dry on a clean towel that was new, wasn't used for anything else, and only washed with non perfumed detergent. For teeth, you can use waterwipes as well. I preferred those wipes, since they can be used for face, teethe and bum. We live and learn, hahahaha.

    Wannabe LoeppkysLife much 😂 lol you look exactly like her. Also if you’re trying to be more natural then disposable diapers aren’t the way at all. Especially not pampers lol. Try a more hybrid option of cloth diaper, like gDiapers. They offer both cloth and disposable flushable inserts. But the inserts are more biodegradable if you don’t want to do laundry as much. I’m cringing at the diaper genie. So bad for the environment girl! But I applaud you for you effort.

    • @AshleyEmbers
      @AshleyEmbers  4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I love LoeppkysLife and if you want to be precise, I actually had the short hair and round glasses before her. Not like either of us invented this super trendy style lol. Also we should be celebrating each others efforts towards zero waste instead of tearing each other down. We’re all on our own journey. I would love to eventually try cloth diapers but I want to get a hold on motherhood first. Plus flushable inserts don’t decompose and wreck havoc on the sewer system. You’re better off just throwing them out.

As soon as I put her in disposable diapers, she stopped waking up! Each child is different and WILL teach/let you know what does not work for them😘
