I firmly believe that us solo female travelers should always know ways to defend ourselves. Not all of us have time to take self-defense classes however, so I'd like to share some tips which I have learned in my self-defense classes. I've been taking Krav Maga for women classes for self-defense and I've learned that the best self- defense targets on a mans body for women, and the best ways of striking them are as follows: - the eyes (finger poke them) - the nose (palm heel strike upwards) - the throat (chopping like actions) - the testicles (knee / kick / punch / slap / grab-twist-pull and *hold on to them tightly* until he collapses and passes out within a matter of seconds) - the knees (sideways kick to dislocate) I've been taught that even a trained, determined teenage girl or elderly woman could easily take down a man if she goes for these targets, especially if she goes *fast* and *hard* for the *eyes* or the *testicles* (or "high balls" and "low balls" as I've also heard them called.) If he's removed his trousers and he is about to rape you, then his testicles will now be *extremely vulnerable* to a "grab, twist, pull and hold" counterattack, and you should keep squeezing and pulling them as hard as you can (you can even use both hands, and it's still just as effective even if you only manage to get hold of one testicle) until he passes out in under 8 seconds. When a man has his testicles forcefully squeezed it causes him to curl over and quickly lose all of his strength no matter how big and strong he is - great for us women to know about. This technique has actually saved many women throughout the world. I hope that someone can read about, learn and share these tips. We can stay safe if we know how and where to strike if attacked.
Evening ladies, just a bit of info..I purchased a " door alarm" for less $10 from Walmart..it's small and is really great..❤ I also take a screen shot of info I've written down & maps/ directions and email them to myself. ...always handy 👌👍
Situational awareness is hugely important. And never leave your drink unattended. Learning about your destination ahead of time is very important. Thanks for all of these really great tips.
Not only never leave your drink unattended but if your drink tastes kinda funny stop drinking it and get somewhere safe. I've been out with a group of women and 1 of us had her drink spiked by the restaurant staff (cos no one else had access that we could tell)
Thanks for sharing, as a solo female traveler,I just never wanted to hang around so a friend would travel with me when she`s ready, so I started traveling solo back in the day before social media, before YT and realized I enjoyed it more, I could do or leave what I wanted. From opinion, I feel it`s safer traveling solo now that im older as I do not take those reckless and careless mistakes. I have really enjoyed, you guys are just brilliant. I subscribed to follow your journey.
Invest in a personal alarm and attach to your bag and in your pocket. Wear trainers for a quick getaway. Use a body belt for passport and money and have a couple of fake purses with small amounts, throw your purse away from you, don't use your mobile on the street, wear clothes that are dowdy and no designer labels, expensive jewlery and bags. Blend in. Cover up, no revealing clothes and high heels. If you need a taxi, book or get hotel to order one for you.
Hello Cara, what does a personal alarm look like. I've never heard of one before. Do you have a name brand or a word I can use to search it out? Thanks.
@@eScential I think, rather than wearing trainers in countries where that isn't common daywear, just ensure that you're able to run in all the shoes you take traveling (bearing in mind you may need to run on cobblestone streets etc)
Instead of a map, I use the Walk-it App when I'm in London (even though I'm a Brit). I don't know the way to everywhere, and this app tells you exactly how to walk to where you want to go.
A recent model larger face phone is what I use for a map - no one has a clue what I am reading and if I am interrupted, I can access the page again very fast if I am interrupted, walk with confidence, situational awareness times 2, use one of those wedge door alarms, listen to your gut and dont second guess or be talked out of it, avoid rooms with balconies, bring disinfectant for surfaces you may be touching - such as the tv remote, etc - so you dont get sick. Just use common sense.
Hey ... is there a place for healthy happy 60 yr old men ?? i still feel so young and want to be purposeful . Want to find a group to travel with but not just women only .. Any tips please let me know .
Yes, there is definitely an element of trust with Airbnb. Having stayed in many I understand that there are very strict guidelines for them as businesses and I’ve never ever had any problems. But you do have to be cautious everywhere these days. To travel safely.

I keep guide books on my kindle and read about famous places before I leave the hotel.

Carry a rubber door stop to use when you are in your room.

@@andi2234 It is tiny. Made of plastic. The brand is slb. If you go on amazon and type in slb personal alarm you will see it xxx
Yet travel sites advise never wear trainers unless actually running on a track. It will offend and attract untoward attention. It seemed 🤔 OFF!

How about cruising for 65+ ?
Hi MaryAnn - we have written many articles on cruising for women over 65 - you can check them out at www.sixtyandme.com
I feel concerned about using Air B&B as a solo woman.
Of course you’d lock the door, but the proprietor has the key!!
