    Something to consider...safe for tree, safe for predators to cross. The predators may find the area by the tree will allow them safe passage over the fence because of the hose.

    I hope you will add some fresh straw bedding in the piggies' shelter, so they can have a soft place to snuggle while napping. I love your homesteading videos.

    I wish around here things were done as perfect as you do them. The way you installed the hog panels around the T Post, the way you made the gate and the way you’re starting out feeding the hogs is textbook. Remember when releasing the spring loaded handles; don’t grab the hot wire that hooks to the handle, insulate it or put on your gloves.
    Your Homestead is picture perfect!!!

    Kevin and Sarah.....Have you ever thought of hosting visitors in your cabin? People could come learn from you while providing you some free labor to help you get things done. As someone who might be interested in understanding what it takes to be a homesteader, I would definitely find it interesting to help, especially during the canning season......I love to can and preserve things.

    What will you use to press out the oil? For the Sunflower bed. Put a post at each end, one in the middle, a piece of wire connected to each. Tie colorful surveyor's tape along the wire. Leave it long so it will FLAP in the wind! Birds don't seem to like it. You could use rags, Walmart bags, whatever you can find! It works for my seed beds!

  • @ubetchya78

    When making electric fence gates you need to make your hook into side right next to an insulator. That way you can hook your gate handle into it easily. Having a long wire and loop means you would need to use your hand to hold it steady to hook into, meaning either you get shocked, or have to turn off the fence.

    We love growing sunflowers here in RI. Many heights and colors. You're problem will most likely be squirrels if you have them. They climb up the stalks and eat the seeds. We have actually watched 2 squirrels tag team and knock the sunflower stalk down and raid the seeds. I've woken many mornings to find another stalk/flower on the ground and raided. God Bless

    Bacon!!! We thought you were going to touch the wire. Ben

  • @jerrypeacock5166
    @jerrypeacock5166 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    that wire on the ceder tree will harm the tree in time. Many forget about it and the tree grows around it. Here in southeast Arkansas many old fences are through the middle of trees. Many times when you see field fence bunched up around a tree it's because the fence has become one with the tree. To save a chainsaw blade many leave fence to mark the tree.

    Just an idea ...how about putting weed membrane down under the electric fence...you could do an area at a time...roll out and knock the posts through the membrane...would save having to keep trimming the weeds...and risking a failure of the power to the fence

    LOL, you better shut the energizer off every time you go through the gate since you put the hook in the middle of the run. The loop to hook up to will flop down and you'll never be able to hook to it with it on. I put my loop at a solid point for that reason. Maybe that's what you planned all along.

    I love that you call new projects experiments. I do the same. Trial and error. We started with potted veggie last year and this year a small garden. I learned that my placement of tomatoes needed to be in a different row. They were blocking the water from the peppers as they got bigger. My husband put the sprinklers on the other side of the garden and raised them with T post. All is well now. Lol. I am so enjoying our tomatoes. We planted Roma, cherries and one called sweeties. So yummy. We are trying to stay organic with the bug killer. It seems we have hornworm issues. We will stray sooner next time. Like I said trial and error. Love you guys. Keep em going. Oh and I love the longer videos. You can go into so much more detail now.

    • @vmorganbogart
      @vmorganbogart 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Connie Crites - For the hornworms, get a black light flashlight & go out at night. The hornworms glow in the black light & you can pick them off. Jess @Roots & Refuge did a video on it. They were able to see even the little ones & just pick them off. Those things are so hard to find & can do so much damage in just one day. Good luck. Love & Hugs from Ft. Worth, Texas

    I totally thought you where going to put the gate the other way around! With the loops on the side of the T-post, so they don't fall down and touch (electrify) the hog panels when you open it! It's is absolutely useless to have spring loaded insulated gate handles if you have to shut the electricity off anyway. (You could just as well use a paperclip of whatever for that) It defeates the purpose of the things! To fix it you could put a T-post in at the side of the loops anyway, but you'll probably need insulaters for that.

    I enjoy watching you explain things that I was doing b4 I was 10 years old. I have to keep reminding myself that I was a country boy with guns/ animals/the problems of country life not so much with thief/gang bangers. And keeping up with the Jones.
    Making do with what you have.
    I said this b4 if you want to cut your heating/cooling bill geothermal is the only way to go.
    You have a tractor with all the attachments needed to do the underground. You can heat/cool your home greenhouse or anything ealse you want for minimal cost then ounce set up the cost will be about $120.00 a year.
    You are talking about 50° year round.
    Your homestead your choice.
